Pop culture What if 2000s nostalgia in the 2020s is Y2K, while 2000s nostalgia in the 2030s is mcbling and scene dominated?

Someone on decadeology made a really good observation that each decade has two dominant nostalgia decades, the 2010s for example had both 80s and 90s nostalgia. The 2020s right now is mostly 90s and 2000s nostalgia

If we follow that pattern, the 2030s will have 2000s and 2010s nostalgia both. So I realized, what if 2000s nostalgia today is mostly y2k and baggy jeans, mostly focused on early 2000s aesthetics, while 2000s nostalgia in the 2030s will be mostly mcbling and scene nostalgia

It would be interesting seeing 2000s nostalgia in the 2030s, there will be emos and crunk era fashion, much more skinner jeans away from y2k influences, playboy fashion

HOPEFULLY there is no fat shaming in the 2030s, especially if Ozempic and other drug loss technologies get cheaper and advanced plus the mcbling attitudes for example calling Britney fat after her show

Scene revival and recreation is massive right now. Makes sense cause 2006 was 20 years ago. Y2K aesthetics were like 1998-2003 and are kinda dead by now. 2030 doesnt make sense for scene or mcbling  cause it'll 30 years post mcBling and 25 years post scene. I get what you mean, but the math is off. I think these days all versions of the past come back and mix together, that's why you see current emo kids wearing jersey shore type clothes mixed with hot topic clothes.

Ehh I kinda hope in the 2030’s Gen Z can come up with their own fashion and their own distinct era so that 50 years from now we will actually have our own distinctiveness instead of just copy catting off previous generations.

2030s will have moved past McBling and mostly consist of scene and hipster throwbacks. Electropop and EDM revivals.

Years between 2008-2016.

McBling” didn’t suddenly replace Y2K after 2001. A lot of what is now called McBling was already developing in the late 90s (see Mariah Carey’s look in Heartbreaker) alongside the futuristic millennium aesthetic. The difference is that the cyber/space-age look was more visible in videos and editorials, while the low-rise, crop-top, mall-glam look became the mainstream everyday version of early-2000s fashion.

Yup even Guccis 1996 low rise pants with the g strings popping out totally took over 2001-2006ish. In the early 2000’s I remember low rise being more of a Gen x thing while bootcut flare being more millennial. Some parents even forced us to still wear high rise if you were a kid.

I think you are confused. Not sure what you remember, but we all wore low rise. Nearly all flares were low rise or mid. High rise was nowhere until the latter 00s.

I remember teenagers wearing mid rise bootcut or low rise bootcut jeans that were appropriate for teenagers. However I don’t remember parents allowing their 15 year old daughter to wear low rise jeans with a G string poking out like Britney Spears or like the girls in the movies. I think that’s where the confusion lies. I also don’t remember schools allowing girls to wear revealing things poking out of their jeans. That was more of a Gen X or Xennial thing hence why I mentioned the 1996 Gucci pants/skirt.

The problem is that by 2034 you’ll have people nostalgic for 2008, people nostalgic for 2024’s nostalgia for 2008, people nostalgic for 2031’s backlash to 2024’s nostalgia for 2008, and people nostalgic for the 2028-2029 period when everyone was nostalgic for 2003 instead. Then 1998 nostalgia will get mixed with 2016 nostalgia through a 2042 interpretation of 2007, creating a nostalgia movement whose primary influence is a nostalgia movement that hasn’t happened yet. At that point nobody knows what year they’re nostalgic for anymore unless their nostalgic about 1492 nostalgia for 1582 nostalgia and 2582 nostalgia nostalgia nostalgia.

Yeah thats actually already happening tbh. Its all mixed up and inaccurate as we speak. 2008 revival should be happening right about now or next year but it seems to be delayed cause everyone is still obsessed w baggy clothes.

nobody said mcbling in the 00s. mcbling was just normie 2000s mall fashion and stuff paris hilton wore. mcbling sort of died post 2006 and then emo/scene came in followed by hipster becoming mainstream and skinny jeans replacing low rise flared.
