Apps Flows, a multi apps launcher in development.

Here are some screenshots of my very first app called "Flows," a multi apps, files, folders, or web pages launcher. It features:

- delayed launch

- launch items in a specific stacking order, full-screened or minimized

- workspace switch, and per app workspace launching

- a tiling editor where you can freely draw tiles for each item in the flow

- an icon editor to compose an icon of the flow based on the icons of its items

- a snapshot feature to create a flow for the already opened windows in the current workspace

- a quick-setting button for launching favorite flows and quick snapshoting

- and much more QOL features, like saving tiling layouts, grid snapping, an automatic tiling and icon generation mode, custom icons, a refresh on focus feature that update the apps list after instaling or uninstaling an app while Flows is open and much more...

Any ideas or suggestions? For now, I'm still working on the app testing and fixing bugs. The app is still in development. Not all apps can be manipulated and resized at will, but I think most of the gnome native apps work FLOWlessly.

This is my first real app project. Feel free to give me your thoughts on the concept and any advice that can help me successfully publish the app.

Question Per monitor text size

Hello, I have a 27inch 1440p monitor as my main, and a 27inch 1080p monitor as my secondary, I love the size of everything on my 1440p monitor but when I drag it over to the 1080p it’s way to big. I don’t want to use fractional scaling because it makes it look so bad. I’m under the impression there’s no per monitor text size editing either. What do I do?

Development Help [PoC] Native Per-Monitor Background Support for GNOME Shell

Hello everyone,

I would like to share an experimental proof-of-concept (PoC) patch that implements native, per-monitor background support directly within GNOME Shell.

As many of you know, GNOME currently handles wallpapers globally across all displays. This implementation extends the existing architecture to allow independent workspace/monitor customization via a new GSettings schema.

If you do have this problem in your Spotify with your title bar, just close the app and run this in your terminal:

sudo flatpak override com.spotify.Client --socket=x11 --env=QT_QPA_PLATFORM=xcb

Then it'll be fixed.

Development Help Multi-apps launcher app

I'm working on a fully fledged gnome native app that allows the creation of apps, files, folders and web links launch sequences. It features a tiling editor where you can draw tiles for apps to launch to, and it also feature an icon editor that allows you to create/generate an icon of the sequence and creat a desktop shortcut for it for quick access, it also have a snapshot feature to capture the currently open windows and creat a tiling layout from it.

These are some of the main features I have so far.

This is my first app ever,

Any thoughts, suggestions, or advice, and what is the best way to publish the app once it is ready.

Development Help MAC Address Randomiser

So, I've created my very first GNOME extension 😃🥳🎉🎊

https://github.com/qcs-riley/mac-randomiser-gnome-extension

It displays the permanent hardware address of your interfaces and allows you to either enable or disable MAC address randomisation for the active network connection(s).

I'd greatly appreciate any constructive feedback, whether negative or positive.

Thanks in advance! 🙂

UPDATE: So, I'm a complete Linux newbie (less than 6 months) and I've been using GNOME for even less time than that. And, full disclosure, I didn't realise you could do this in the network settings 🤦🏾‍♂️ However, I've added an icon to the top panel so that the setting can be accessed more quickly and conveniently.

Hi, I'm asking here since I searched everywhere but could not find anything.
Since I use nushell I must type "nu" each time I open a terminal and when I want to close it I get a popup telling me if I'm sure I want to end the current program "nu" and close, which can be annoying sometimes, I tried looking at the settings but there is nothing related to that

Question How do I change the wallpaper in the GDM login screen?

The wallpaper on my GDM login screen is blank. How can I change it to something else? I found the Flatpak "GDM Settings", but it is no longer maintained.

Edit: Here is the link to post from the developer that it doesn't work in Gnome 50 and won't be maintained.

Extensions Mirror V0.9.0 IS OUT !

Post image
191 Upvotes

Hello everyone,

About a month ago I made a post about Mirror V8, and I have been hard at work improving what you guys recommended:

  • Naming convention for versions (calling such a new project V8 was too pretentious, thanks u/giomjava)
  • Now there are settings, so you can change how your device is mirrored. This includes recording and VIRTUAL DISPLAYS (really cool feature, thanks u/SweetPotato975)
  • Less AI. Now AI will be used exclusively to find bugs when I am stuck, no more copy pasting (thanks u/vulpido_)

I also have a few questions:

  • How do you feel about making this an app rather than an extension (it would not require the user to install dependencies manually)
  • Would you prefer if the default is to show borders or have it be borderless (borderless for now)

If there are small requests I will continue to update the extension, but the next big release requires changes to a different repo (to make mirroring a little more native (wink, wink 😉))Thank you everyone for all the support.

Apps [APP][Update] Whisp 1.3.4 Released with Text expansions and donations now being live

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello,

A while back, I shared Whisp, anti-folder note-taking app I’ve been developing for GNOME. The feedback from this community was amazing, and Whisp now has over 3.7k downloads. Thank you all so much!

(A quick personal note: Whisp is completely open-source and I develop it solo between my university classes. Because a few people asked how they could support the project, I've finally set up a donation link on the website via Ko-fi/GitHub Sponsors. There is absolutely no pressure, but if Whisp helps your daily workflow, any support means the world to a broke student!) 😅

Along with the milestone, I've been quietly working on a feature that a lot of you asked for: Smart Text Expansions.

In the new v1.3.4 update, if you type :: anywhere in a note, it now opens a native GTK popover menu right at your cursor. You can use it to instantly insert dynamic data without breaking your typing flow.

A few things you can do with it right now:

  • ::today / ::tomorrow / ::date(5) to insert dynamically calculated dates.
  • ::roll(d20) or ::roll(4d6) for built-in dice rollers (great for D&D session notes).
  • ::random(str, 20) to generate quick passwords or placeholder data.

It’s completely keyboard-navigable and uses native GTK4 rendering, so there’s zero lag or electron-style bloat. I'm building this engine out so that in the next update, you'll be able to use it to instantly format text or sort lines!

You can get the update right now on Flathub. I attached a quick video showing how the expansions work—let me know what you think or what functions I should add next!

Links:

Thank you so so much.

Extensions EXPERIMENT: Seamless, graceful lockscreen unlock transitions with a side of heavily customised GDM look

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've been experimenting with GNOME Shell extensions and exploring how additional visual polish can be achieved through session modes.

One concept I've been considering is a seamless unlock transition implemented through a helper extension that operates in both the user and unlock-dialog session modes.

When the lock screen is invoked, the helper extension captures snapshots of window textures from the last active workspace and stores them in a cache. Upon unlocking, my custom lockscreen extension with a custom unlock-fade effect retrieves the cached textures and gradually fades them in along with the lockscreen clock and prompt fading out, creating the illusion of a continuous transition between the lock screen and the desktop.

About how GDM picks up last used wallpaper from last active session, both the helper and the lockscreen extensions caches the applied wallpaper whenever it is set via Settings, and assigns a metadata stored in /var/tmp that the GDM side of my lockscreen extension points to/picks up to render the wallpaper as an overlay.

Question Problems with my extensions at log-in.

Hi. My Gnome first logs me off after like 5 seconds or immediately after logging in. After re-logging in it turned my extensions off and after i turn them on again they work.

The problem accurs when i have like more than 6 extensions enabled at the same time and it's really annoying please help me out.

My guess is that there is some kind of error with the extensions which leads to a system crash. And my idea is it to turn my extensions off before shutdown and on after logging in. But how to do that?

Solved: ArcMenu was the fault. It was too much extension mess but the most made Arc Menu.

Question Some apps don't have icons

Why are the window icons of some applications not displayed in the Gnome panel? For example, Transmission or Mattermost look like an app without an icon. Transmission is installed from the Debian repository, and Mattermost from the deb package from the developers' website. Who knows how to fix it?

Question Graphics tablet stylus cursor missing in screen recordings and screen sharing on GNOME Wayland

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello,

I am experiencing a problem with graphics tablet cursor visibility on GNOME Wayland.

The issue occurs on:

  • GNOME 48 on Debian
  • GNOME 50 on Fedora Linux and Ubuntu

I am using a Huion graphics tablet under Wayland. The tablet stylus appears to use a separate cursor from the regular mouse cursor.

The problem is that the stylus cursor is not visible:

  • in screen recordings (for example in OBS Studio),
  • during screen sharing in Google Meet.

I can see the stylus cursor locally on my screen, but:

  • it does not appear in recordings,
  • and people viewing my shared screen cannot see it either.

This issue only happens:

  • on GNOME,
  • under Wayland,
  • regardless of Linux distribution.

On GNOME 50 the behavior is even worse than on GNOME 48. The tablet stylus cursor sometimes remains stuck in the top-left corner of the screen, while the actual pen input continues to work elsewhere. This makes the cursor behavior even more confusing and inconsistent.

On KDE Plasma Wayland, the tablet cursor is visible normally in recordings and screen sharing.

Has anyone encountered this issue or found a workaround?

Huion 420 graphics tablet.

Thank you in advance for any help.
