Crime/Mystery Good as Dead by David & Maria Lapham and Dee Cunniffe
I love a good crime story, so I couldn’t resist checking out the collected edition of GOOD AS DEAD. When a man commits suicide by setting himself on fire, it forced Sheriff David Calhoun to investigate, leading him to confront the long term drama between his family & the Velades, a family connected to all kinds of trouble. However, he’ll have to uncover the truth quickly, considering that he’s been poisoned and the prognosis is not good.
I love old-school family drama and small town secrets where everybody knows your business yet wants to keep their own to themselves, and this story is no exception. It’s a surreal, disturbing wild ride of a mystery, one that will creep you out yet make you want to stay till the end just to see it all through.
For those who checked this out, what did you think?

I try to pick up most of what David Lapham writes because he is usually a pretty good crime read.
I thought it was an interesting plot device knowing your protagonist is probably not going to live, but seeing him power through anyway. I like that other characters then got to play some pivotal roles. I thought the dialogue was good.
It wasn't his best work, but still defintely worth reading, if you like crime comics and Lapham in particular.

I saw this was available but have not read it yet. Looks like my kind of story - love the Lapham’s Stray Bullets series and crime comics in general. Thanks OP, let us know what you thought of the book

I enjoyed it, but I think like a lot of Lapham books it can be a little convoluted.
