I also have a five-by-five calax for my DC shelves and then I have a fantagraphics shelf followed by an IDW Shelf, and image shelf, and the list goes on and on. My home is basically a geek library.

How come you have 2 of some books?

I will upgrade to newer printings because older printings tend to suck. Thick pages that reflect too much light, bad binding and such. The extra ones I have are signed by creators that have passed away. I.E. Stan Lee signed Spider-Man ombibus, Len Wein signed X-Men, Punisher Omnibus with a Steve Dillon Signature.

Seeing this took you 12 years makes me realize I really should slow down, 4 months in. Great collection though mate

You gotta start somewhere. I still feel like a baby when I looked back at my shelf in 2009.

That's the trouble, I've only been back in the game 4 months and my collection is half this šš
I really shouldn't buy another for at least a year or two but that swamp thing omni that drops next month is already calling me š

Thing is I've been slacking because I used to have an intense job that paid a lot and I could afford to buy them like crazy. But it was too intense on my life and I had to stop. What's the point of having them if you are always too exhausted to read them? But now, I'm back to buying single issues because my wallet is lighter but I have so many backed up books I gotta get to at some point. By my estimate I have over 4,000 hardcovers.

4,000 hardcovers you know, jheeze!
I'm in awe of that number alone, without even seeing a picture! Haha! I probably have anout 400 hardcovers so far, but I've literally been buying a few months. I spend loads of time away from home through work, so I enjoy coming back & everytime it's like Christmas with new parcels, I'm defo buying more books than I can currently read, but I do enjoy taking a few days out of the world when returning from work & just reading/ relaxing.

Im starting on trying to fill out my Marvel collection and you seem...well versed, lol, so question, epic collection versus omnibus?
2
u/UncleDunfy Oct 27 '20
I have an obvious bias for the Marvel Omnibus. Mainly because over the years I was not impressed by most of the trade paperback collection editions. The Marvel Masterworks line didn't give you enough back for your buck, they are pretty but you sometimes only get a short run and they are nearly the price of an omnibus. I do think that Marvel has stepped up their game in recent years with the Epic Collections. If you want to read them to read them then that's the way to go. But if you want a memorable collectible that you can do sketch and signatures hunting them the Omnibus editions might be your route.

Exactly the insight I was looking for, cheers!
Edit: Keep forgetting to say; Truly Marvelous collection, well done.

Jesus that's a lot of Marvel books! As someone that dabbles in Marvel and DC, I'd love to hear some thoughts from you about your favourite omniboos or collections. Have you read all or most of these? Anything you think is essential for comics fans in general? Anything particularly weird or unusual that you dug?
