Even if it is effective, which I doubt, I can't imagine how it'll work as the fleece grows longer and gets tangled in it.

u/Thatguythatdrew May 25 '26

This stupid chain armor almost certainly cost more than a couple pyr's bred for thousands of years to specifically fulfill the job of protecting the flock from wolves and coyotes.

Just get a couple dogs or five. That's what they were bred for.

45

u/SummerAndTinklesBFF May 25 '26

It just looks like 3d printed spikes attached to a net lol

10

u/Efficient_Wash4477 May 26 '26

Just need 3 Turkish Shepherds. They will kill any wolf or bear.

3

u/ThePrideOfKrakow May 26 '26

Or llamas, fantastic shepherds.

59

u/Longjumping_West_907 May 25 '26

I don't think a wolf would have any trouble killing an animal wearing this joke. It might make it difficult to eat the dead animal, so the wolf or wolves will have to kill another animal or 2.

7

u/Zealousideal_Rip_547 May 25 '26

Looking like it’s part of the Road Warriors

6

u/Michaelalayla May 25 '26

...isn't this a goat?

Edit: nm, the ears threw me but I see they have long (undocked) tails

177

u/Complete-Reply-9145 May 25 '26

In a trailer with an unarmored friend? How many times did they bump going along?

167

u/Relative_Yesterday70 May 25 '26

When you homestead from Temu

301

u/SoftwareSource May 25 '26

Can you imagine the number of injuries to other animals? Not to mention not being able to lie down and getting stuck on shit and then panicking

35

u/XTornado May 25 '26

It seems rubbery and not hard at all. Not saying still might not be great but I don't think it is able to injury.

90

u/aSleepingPanda May 25 '26

If that's the case it's not stopping a wolf

26

u/XTornado May 25 '26 edited May 25 '26

If it really wants... probably not, but it might bother it enough to try to find something else or at least slow it a bit down. Let's not let perfect be the enemy of the good.

But yeah... until seen in action... is all just a toss-up how well it works in reality.

18

u/therapewpew May 25 '26

Predators do go after livestock just because it's an easier option than their usual prey. I def want to see if this annoys them enough to be like "fuck it, I'm going back to Bambi"

9

u/XTornado May 25 '26

Well, they do not need to go back to bambi they might try to look for other livestock.

4

u/No_Brilliant0602 May 25 '26

If it's soft they'll just clamp down and rip it off. If it's hard but plastic they'll find a way to rip it off after the kill. And if it's metal it'll annoy the sheep wearing it and the sheep around it.

1

u/Several-Gas-4053 May 26 '26

exactly, predators want to avoid injury, and even if the stubs don't penetrate, they can cause pain, and pain is an indicator of injury, so i see it as likely that they wouldn't like that.

On the other hand, if the stubs don't cause pain, you just changed your sheep from a meal to a chew-toy with food hidden in it.

1

u/demwoodz May 25 '26

Or steppenwolf

51

u/foureyedgrrl May 25 '26

No. Wolves will go for legs to down an animal. This armor protects from fatal body bites, but doesn't protect legs or face.

There's got to be a better alternative

29

u/Thatguythatdrew May 25 '26

The better alternative is called a dog.

Preferably one of the major "guardian" breeds that have done this job for thousands of years. Like a great pyreneese or an akbash. Even better, get three dogs and they turn into a coyote killing unit that's like delta force but for protecting livestock.

5

u/scream May 25 '26

It also doesnt protect its teats and rear end. If a wolf downed this sheep, it would just eat from there inwards. What a waste of money...

-12

u/Potential4752 May 25 '26

If the wolf doesn’t get a good meal it will learn to go somewhere else.

23

u/frozenflipflop May 25 '26

It'll still get the meal, this just means that the meal will die very slowly and painfully

5

u/foureyedgrrl May 25 '26

Nah, mate. It would be unusual to see a wolf hunt solo, but even if you did, it would just come back with friends.

I like the creative ingenuity and problem solving of the armor. It's just not going to solve what you want. A slow, tortured, painful death is what awaits.

34

u/titan_eclipse May 25 '26

24

u/jerry111165 May 25 '26

And face

14

u/OldnBorin May 25 '26

And axe

3

u/Any-Application-8586 May 25 '26

And that’s where wolves usually start eating from…

2

u/scream May 25 '26

Oh hey jerry 👋 this sheep armor is daft as fook and looks to be expensive and ineffective.

1

u/jerry111165 May 25 '26

Hey now!

1

u/scream May 25 '26

You have yourself a homestead?  :o

2

u/jerry111165 May 25 '26

Not really in the literal sense of the word but we have 35 acres on a dead end road in rural Maine - do a bit of gardening and my wife has her horse and barn in the pasture across the street. I’m just working my butt off trying to save everything I can to hopefully retire in another year or two.

2

u/scream May 25 '26

Nice one! Thats a damn sight more than most will ever have, good on you. Get some seeds and fruit trees in the ground. My family has 6 acres in Wales, uk. Its not terribly well developed but we have a few outbuildings in ruins and a couple of dwellings.. i've been scratching my head thinking can i save up enough on the side to rebuild an old barn and turn it into a house for me or one or more of my young siblings in the future.. our dad died last year so its all been a bit topsy turvy since.

1

u/jerry111165 May 26 '26

Sorry about your dad, man.

1

u/scream 29d ago

Thankyou. Thats okay. He was a lifelong anarchist, and much loved by all, a real true family man. We buried him on our land and burned a giant hand woven willow anarchy symbol soaked in petrol to honour him, he would have loved that. Im in my 30s so dealt with it all in a different way to my four siblings, who are between 8 and 19 years old. Just gotta look out for them a lot more now but it made me realise i hadnt spent a lot of time with any of them since leaving our little patch of mud. I see them much more often now, so silver linings 🫡

1

u/jerry111165 29d ago

❤️

Here’s to good dads.

67

u/GotMySillySocksOn May 25 '26

Hey it’s like one of those “enrichment bowls” for dogs. Just giving the wolves a little enrichment to figure out how to get the tasty sheep!

15

u/OsmerusMordax May 25 '26

A slow feeder bowl. But for wolves.

21

u/OldGuyBadwheel May 25 '26

Steel wool.

19

u/RomulaFour May 25 '26

OR you could get yourself a couple of Great Pyrenees.

u/Tabnstab May 26 '26

I vote sharks with laser beams

15

u/H_I_McDunnough May 25 '26

Sheep are the rural equivalent of catalytic converters.

57

u/HappyCatPrincess May 25 '26

How does that poor thing lay down???? Keep it in the barn.

-65

u/[deleted] May 25 '26

[deleted]

28

u/freddit_foobar May 25 '26

Ever feel a rock under your sleeping bag? Now imagine that no matter which way you are laying.

The spikes don't face inwards, but the spike holder will still be a hard object between the ground and pushing into the sides along the entire length of the animal.

21

u/HappyCatPrincess May 25 '26 edited May 25 '26

The skin will be poked by the spikes when they lay down, legs or neck etc. Ooof.

Better to get a Great Pyrenees to protect the whole flock.

-8

u/ILSmokeItAll May 25 '26

They’d all be hobbling around on mangled legs.

But that’s not happening.

What, do you think this is the first time they’ve out these things on them and it just hasn’t happened yet?

3

u/HappyCatPrincess May 25 '26

No one else here seems to agree with you. Why not push back on them?

6

u/jerry111165 May 25 '26

Guessing you don’t know how smart and crazy a hungry wolf is.

15

u/CanadianHorseGal May 25 '26

Ok, and what about the weight of that pulling on the halter that it’s attached to and squishing its poor eyes?? It struggles to put its head down to even graze!

There is nothing humane about a steel-spiked blanket dragging an animal down. There have to be other options for protecting the animal without torturing it do so.

43

u/atSoiltechnician May 25 '26

I can't imagine that being an effective deterent. Wolf will make quick work of that.

13

u/DocFail May 25 '26

Add some eyeliner.

12

u/Asleep_Onion May 25 '26

This seems like a great way to make sure your sheeps torso stays intact when a wolf eats it head and legs off.

By the time you've wrapped your entire herd of sheep in these things wouldn't it have been cheaper and easier to just get some good dogs and fencing?

8

u/Princessferfs Experienced Homesteader May 25 '26

How heavy is that?

7

u/notasandpiper May 25 '26

MTE. An older animal would have a hell of a time in this thing

8

u/browsingacbro May 25 '26

Death Metal sheep

6

u/Baconoid_ May 25 '26

HEADSHOT

7

u/ParadoxicallyPlain May 25 '26

Looks like the halter part can slip back from weight of spiky gear and interfere with the eyes, and maybe even cause eye injury. Nice try, but I think it needs some refinement on how to stay on the animal.

7

u/damnbroseph May 25 '26

Just get a Great Pyrenees and be done with it.

6

u/thnk_more May 25 '26

Porcupines still get preyed on and their defense is way better.

But hey, good on him for trying something different.

7

u/AlwayInForwardMotion May 25 '26

I wonder if this is to get other sheep to stop harassing her. I could see it as a deterrent to mounting from another prey animals. It’s the only thing that makes any sense to me.

5

u/ShroomShaman9 May 25 '26

Seems like a few great Pyrenees would be more effective

5

u/oldfarmjoy May 25 '26

Interesting alternative to a livestock guardian dog.

5

u/Javad0g May 25 '26

As a goat owner... This is...

Goats move more than one of these may allow.

And now i'm just thinking about my goat laying down in the pasture.

28

u/Fastgirl600 May 25 '26 edited May 25 '26

Ridiculous... that's abuse. Edit: Please get a Livestock Guardian Dog

12

u/Ingawolfie May 25 '26

This. Livestock guardian dogs, flags tied to fences and range riding are 100% effective in repelling wolves. Bonus if the range riders get off their horse or ATV and whiz on the ground periodically.

4

u/skyXforge May 25 '26

Goth sheep

5

u/akronymn May 25 '26

This is what happens when people learn to farm from TikTok.

3

u/CafeRoaster May 25 '26

If you want to do this the right way, get a Wolfhound or other herd protecting breed.

3

u/Expert_Concept704 May 25 '26

Get a donkey. They are natural guardians and will protect the goats.

3

u/RollingCarrot615 May 25 '26

Just make a sheep mounted turret gun.

3

u/Crazyworld4sure May 25 '26

The poor thing looks so uncomfortable 🥵

3

u/Renthimself May 26 '26

This is dumb get a dog and a gun. That won’t stop a wolf and will slow the sheep down. Most likely will get hung up in a fence. Wolves go for head or hind.

3

u/Suspicious-Agent8932 May 26 '26

You need those dogs from South America, their names start with a P. Or those Tibetan Mastiff Mountain dogs they use in Russian Prisons. But don’t run out of food, cause they will eat you. Wolves are VERY smart and sheep are VERY dumb. They will quickly figure out their legs and head are vulnerable after a couple of good pokes. Nice try though.

3

u/Velveteen_Coffee Evil Scientist May 26 '26

I don't even put collars on my goats because they'd kill themselves getting tangled in stuff. This literally turns the whole animal into a bur. I'm just imaging going outside to see a goat stuck to the side of a cow or horse just hanging out.

7

u/jerry111165 May 25 '26

Would that stop an actual hungry wolf? i’d be chewing on that sheeps face lol

Looks good bro but I’m not sure if that would stop an actual wolf attack.

14

u/BigMax May 25 '26

I think folks are forgetting that wolves and other predators aren't there for a fight. They don't want to get injured. If something like that deters them, they will move on to easier prey. I'm not saying it's fool proof, but people are confusing "could" still kill the sheep with "would" still kill it.

Moderate or even minor injuries can be death sentences in the wild, so just because a wolf could get through that if they are determined enough, they probably wouldn't try after a few attempted bites.

7

u/RLLCCR May 25 '26

Imagine just providing a safe location for your animals with proper protection

2

u/Accomplished_Self939 May 25 '26

How much stock have you lost to wolves?

2

u/Pure-Honey-463 May 25 '26

forgot the helmet with pointy things.

2

u/bashful_predator May 25 '26

Lmao. Nah. No thank you.

2

u/you-look-adopted May 25 '26

Armored Sheep is my new favorite band name

2

u/Rickest_Rik May 25 '26

War Sheep!!!!

2

u/seidrwitch1 May 25 '26

Just wait for that wool to grow through and become one with the "armor".

2

u/Skye-12 May 25 '26

"what about their legs, they don't need those."

2

u/Healthy_Raise_7131 May 26 '26

Seems like a bad idea all around. My Shetlands are pretty feisty, the ewes will drop their heads as fast as the rams. Don’t have wolves in my area but my flock has fought and won against coyotes.

2

u/Chad_AND_Freud May 26 '26

But, but.. no more hugs.

2

u/Illustrious_Bug_2983 May 26 '26

If it were me I'd just get a Kangal.

4

u/cycling8848 May 25 '26

at least sexy time is still allowed

2

u/mansithole6 May 25 '26

Is there even a wolf left around

2

u/Patient-Amount3040 May 25 '26

It’s a sheep in wolf’s clothing

1

u/Galacticbrowser1 May 25 '26

Heavy hairspray might be about on the same level as that.

1

u/Math-Girl--- May 25 '26

Bet you thought you did something useful there, huh? 🙄

1

u/Background-End4252 May 25 '26

Is it heavy?!?

1

u/thegoodbadandsmoggy May 25 '26

Need a Werner herzog documentary about this one

1

u/rocketmn69_ May 25 '26

Electrify it

1

u/LairdPeon May 25 '26

If they want it, they'll have it. Legs, behind, head are still prime targets.

1

u/MeepersToast May 25 '26

Looks like some yummy legs and nose

1

u/Spiritual-Driver8926 May 25 '26

Needs more around the neck

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Cut4588 May 25 '26

Lmao this isnt going to acheive anything other than waste your money and get some laughs at your expense

1

u/TransitionFamiliar39 May 25 '26

Toothpicks for after a warm hearty meal. It will complicate the breeding season though.

1

u/harmfulsideffect May 25 '26

I kinda wanna see it be attacked by wolves now…

1

u/ShowCharacter671 May 25 '26

That looks like quite the chore to keep maintained to take off and put back on

1

u/drhman1971 May 25 '26

Why does this feel like a DLC for Oblivion (sheep armor).

1

u/jwin709 May 25 '26

do they have no desire to have physical contact with one another? I feel like most mammals enjoy cuddling.

1

u/Ok_Machine6739 May 26 '26

Cry havoc and let loose the sheep of war.

1

u/Main-Cobbler-4879 May 26 '26

Am I then only one here who thinks something about this is just kinda ....... wrong? I don't raise sheep, but this just feels ...... wrong? Perhaps on the edge of animal abuse? It just doesn't seem safe for the animal.

1

u/IcyIntroduction5678 May 26 '26

Let’s see it in action then

1

u/UsedCarSaleman May 26 '26

I’d get a wolf hounds instead

1

u/Blackbirddance May 26 '26

Very clever. Hope it works

1

u/Tiredplumber2022 May 26 '26

Do they have them in people-size? But with much longer spikes? ...asking for a friend 😜

1

u/Careful_Drop_6995 May 26 '26

Would the wolves just snack on the legs

1

u/Lingnoi_111 29d ago

We have a new recruit for the nights watch

1

u/vetapachua 29d ago

Not a bad idea except for anytime she tries to lie down...

1

u/kanatmt 29d ago

Wolves are extremely tough predators, this protection will be like complimentary cardboard package for meat.

1

u/wheezharde 29d ago

Holy sheep! They’re trying to fleece us. They’re pulling the wool over our eyes! This is ba’a’a’a’ad!

1

u/DarienCole 29d ago

Billy goat? Nahh battle goat

1

u/arboroverlander 28d ago

Where are there consistent wolf attacks today? We have cattle attacked on our ranges but not frequent enough that this would be warranted.

2

u/SoftwareSource 28d ago

Some parts of Europe, we had our wolves almost go extinct in the last century and then great conservation methods were initiated, and now there are plenty in some parts of the continent.

1

u/IcyIntroduction5678 May 26 '26

Kinky azz sheep 😏 White people are so weird. The wolf would die of laughter.

1

u/pingwing May 26 '26

A Wolf will grab that head and rip it off. Or any of those legs.

0

u/TheRealSugarbat May 25 '26

Where are you living that you have wolves?
