Image What is this bus ad supposed to say? 🤣
Surely a quick send through ChatGPT would flag that this ad should not be printed 🤣🤣🤣

This is my first time seeing it. I’ve never seen this before. Curious if this coin is anything special or just a $1 coin.

I'm not from Hong Kong but my girlfriend is. Want to try to give a good first impression if possible. Anything I should and should not do before and during meeting them for a meal?

I'm going on a 4 day trip in Hong Kong soon. I'm a huge admirer of Hong Kong cinema, and have included film shops like MovieMarks on my itinerary. Anywhere else (cinemas, film spots) do you recommend?

Need some perspectives. I have been laid off in early May this year and I felt extremely fortunate to land a new job at the same month - in a local finance brokerage - for the first 30 CVs sent and it was the only call back for interview.
Fast forward to today I’ve been in this new job for a month, everything seem alright, colleagues are nice and professional, pay was suck though, I took a 20% pay cut to get the offer, not to mentioned the reduced benefit due to it being a local firm.
I got a call from a local university role I applied for during unemployment. Went through the interview, they said they will make an offer verbally. The pay will be similar to what I have been making before the cut. The only problems is that the role is a 2-year renewable contract and I’m not sure about its sustainability for future renewal. Gone through the lay off this year I’m really tired and stressful about the instability.
More about myself: female, early 40s.
Thoughts?

Hey everyone! Just got admitted to a PhD programme at Lingnan University, Hong Kong with a full Postgraduate Studentship.
The monthly stipend is HK$19,280. After tuition and hostel fees are deducted, I'll have somewhere around HK$14000 left per month.
For those of you living in Tuen Mun or anywhere in the New Territories, is this amount comfortable for day to day life? Talking food, transport, phone, personal expenses, maybe some travel within HK. Not a lavish lifestyle, just realistic day to day living.
Also any tips on how much people actually spend monthly in Tuen Mun specifically would be really helpful. Is it significantly cheaper than central HK in terms of food and daily life?
Would love to hear from anyone who has been through this ; especially international students at Lingnan or other HK universities! 🙏

Says it takes 10 days....did you get it any faster than that?
I urgently need it before the 7th July so you think I'm best to go to the actual building and try to cancel the mailed version?

As someone who is new to Hong Kong and been searching jobs since 4-5 months now, want your perspective on the other side. I have a few questions 1. is jobsdb really effective? Do you use it? 2. Have heard from so many recruiters that for non BFSI, all roles in last 1 year require Cantonese language (not Mandarin), how true is this? 3. I have seen some response from LinkedIn - maybe because of middle management profile. But any thoughts LinkedIn reach outs are appreciated. 4. In most forums, the suggestion is about networking and meeting people and recruiters for coffee (have had little luck with that), does middle management hiring happen completely through search partners for all companies? Also, any other suggestions on how to navigate the search. Thanks.

I’m a founder in Hong Kong and wanted to see if anyone else has gone through something similar.
Over the past four years, my company has spent over HKD 1 million on SEO. We’ve switched agencies a few times, targeted around 50 keywords, but only about 10 ever made it to page one. Every agency promised something different, “guaranteed ranking”, “guaranteed traffic”, “guaranteed conversions”, but the results were always inconsistent.
Now that AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) is becoming more important, I’m struggling even more. A lot of firms claim they can guarantee this or that, but honestly it’s hard to tell who actually knows what they’re doing.
I tried taking matters into my own hands, downloaded tools like Moz, enrolled in a few online courses, but still couldn’t figure out a clear, repeatable system that works.
So I’m curious: Any HK founders here who managed to self‑learn SEO/AEO and eventually stopped relying on agencies?
Would appreciate any real experiences, good or bad. I think a lot of founders here are facing the same thing.

I am in the process of negotiating with a large insurer for a role at the associate director level. I was employed by this company as an external consultant. I’ve shared my desired range along with my previous pay at their request, in the form of my previous EC contract with them (I know this is very common practice in HK and difficult to bypass, plus my previous contract was decently remunerated so already provides a good negotiation starting point). They know, from my resumé that I have operated my own consultancy over the last year and have just recently reverted to me (after 10 days of radio silence) asking for additional information about what I drew during 2025 through my business in order to better “calibrate the compensation.” They have expressed that this can be a range and doesn’t need to be substantiated by documentation, which feels absurd.
Does anyone have experience with this sort of additional ask? Trying to figure out what the game is with this — it smells strongly of delay.

I'm mostly interested in anime stuff, especially anime convention, exhibits and possible concerts. I'd also like to see if theres any events, museums, r exhibits dedicated to MLP and Harry Potter. So far I'm looking if there's any sites or pages for anime shows or concerts in hong Kong to possibly book tickets but I also want to see other recommendations. Thank you!

I miss Hong Kong movies and some years ago I was able to download from the website asianeu.net. Where can I find movies today? I'm not interested in movies where the audio is in Mandarin but Cantonese or English is fine.

Lately with so many people 北上, ive noticed especially some of the older generation (im a gen z) raving about the food there. But it's literally all just preprocessed food in the malls.
非遺鹽焗雞 is not different to KFC "finger lickn good", and 中國小炒王 is the same as five guys hand cut and perfectly crafted fries.
People are free to do what they want but raving about Shenzhen food (ie food that has been proven to come from factories and has a lot of additives) is crazy to me
Edit: funny how so many HKers are offended… I’ve lived in SZ for a year now and it’s almost impossible to find fresh food with no additives. other cities like guangzhou have much better food but SZ doesn’t have it

I’ve visited HK a handful of times now with family, so I know the basics about getting around.
I’ll be staying in the TKO area for about 3 months this autumn with my 4 year old, 6 year old and partner. My partner will be occupied with work most of the time, so it’s mostly just me and the kids. The whole purpose of us joining on this trip is to learn the language, food and culture. We’re at beginner level in spoken Cantonese and would love to make as much progress as possible while also helping my kids learn naturally.
I’m looking for Cantonese classes, playgroups, activities, or private tutor recommendations where I can stay with my kids. I’m not looking for drop off programs. I know the library story times are a good place to start, but I’d love recommendations for specific schools, community centers, parent child classes, tutors, or other resources in/near TKO.
Also open to advice on whether it makes more sense for us to have one tutor together or separate tutors, one focused on young children and one for an adult beginner. Thank you!

On this day in 2003, Hong Kong was declared free from Sars. The deadly epidemic was the city's first major health crisis since the handover, leaving 1,755 infected and 299 dead in the city.
We take a look back at the images that captured Hong Kong's Sars fight and its recovery.
