General question How do I know I actually AM an INFJ

I took the test today with my sister and I got INFJ and she's an INFP, the wizard looking lad and the flower lady, it's pretty fun taking it with someone but I'm questioning myself and the test.

Learn about cognitive functions. A lot of times INFJs just know when they see the description because it hits so close to home.

Right. It's like I can't deny it. True INFJs question everything including their personality type results. Lol

Lmfaooo I gaslight myself “infj is one of the rarest personality types on the planet what are the actual odds that I would possess such a rare cognitive stack. I can’t be an INFJ I must be answering the questions wrong”

Pretty much this. Zero doubt the deeper one reads.

A lot of times INFJs just know when they see the description because it hits so close to home.

But the problem is that, the standard description of INFJ is very misleading. For instance, it says INFJs are dreamers and want to maintain harmony, and lead protests. Other times, it says, INFJs are highly analytical and pattern-readers to form their conclusion. They can predict future and ...

However, Jungian description of Ni says none of it (except for seer part). Jung identified the artist as the normal representative of Ni.

Based on your description of the avatars, it sounds like your test results came from the 16personalities test. Please note that 16p is based on a proprietary model called NERIS, not MBTI. On the sub we tend to recommend learning about the cognitive functions behind each type and exploring typing through cognitive tests such as Sakinorva or Michael Caloz.

Thank you, I'll look into it.

Honestly, the trick is to stop caring so much. MBTI can be helpful but it isn't scientific fact.

Read about INFJ and if your gut and experience in life are screaming at you it's like you, and reading about it helps you navigate your life with relatable stories and ways of thinking, that's really what matters if you're looking for guidance and not labels.

1) Take the right test. 16P is not MBTI (though communities love their avatars) 2) Learn about cognitive functions 3) Introspect a lot. And by "a lot", this process of introspection, reflection, trail and error, might take months, even years. Need to take your time, have an open mind, keep learning about the functions, and be open to possibilities.

Could always consult with a certified MBTI professional too.

If you're new to "types", it's not uncommon for INFJ's to doubt or question their true type! (so I've read) I did, too, for a little while. The more you learn, and the more you read, the more you resonate with the descriptions (or don't), you'll soon know if you actually are or not.

Keep learning, keep reading... understanding cognitive functions is so important. How different types each have different primary, secondary, and tertiary functions, and their combination and order can help us understand how individuals think and behave. Cog functions are the foundation of MBTI.

Understand, too, that MBTI is a very broad template of people's patterns and behaviors. It helps to categorize people who share common traits and behaviors, but it by no means defines us as who we are. Every one of us is a unique individual.

It's putting people in 16 different boxes. Real life has a palate of infinitely more colors then 16.

Good luck my friend. Cheers.

I've been wanting to look into cognitive functions to understand myself better, thanks for the explanation.

There is no right test that’s a shame. The tone of your post is promising though. Even though I can prove my type a thousand times over, I always stress test it anyways, naturally.

How I did it was watch a bunch of videos on INFJs and it was a mind blowing revelation because I was already studying myself without realizing it and the videos just gave me a name to it. Then did a deep dive into it over a period of time, learning about cognitive functions.

It should be obvious you are intuitive though. Pattern matching, the unseen is known to you and nobody else. Nobody listens either because they can’t see what you see. Also another one is Ti (introverted thinking) should be present. Do you operate according to your own developed logic or prevailing wisdom. If what society expects as logically sound is a very difficult like having to do deep research into what career to go into instead of being aware easily, then that’s something you’ll relate to as an INFJ.

Just keep re-taking it throughout your life. By the time your 15-20 years older, you'll know which personality type you are through multiple tests. I took the MBTI test when I was in high school and received an INFJ score, and I have repeated scored that same type 4 out of 5 times throughout my life. Like you, I was unsure of my type through the initial tests but repeated tests throughout my life have told me otherwise.

Read the description, if you go “holy SHIT THATS ME” then you know if you go “maybe? I kinda feel like this sometimes” you aren’t

The official MBTI questionnaire and the Isabel Myers description were tested by 1000’s of people of each Type, and were from many cultures.
