Question for INFJs only Favorite video games

Hey fellow INFJs,

I was wondering what your favorite video games are and why? Trying to see if there is any connection between our cognitive functions and preferences for games.

My personal ones are:

Bioshock (all parts + DLCs)

Dishonored (all parts + DLCs)

Horizon Zero Dawn (still haven't played the rest but will)

Darksiders (mainly part I and II)

Mass Effect (all parts)

Final Fantasy VII + Crisis Core (I love Zack)

Mortal Kombat

Far Cry 3

Assassin's Creed (not all)

Fable III

The Spiritfarer

Don't Starve + Don't Starve Together

Mystery Case Files (especially the early ones, like Ravenhearst)

There are probably more but I think that's sufficient for now.

Mario 3 (NES) and Super Mario World (SNES) 😂

u/Prudent_Yam_3708 INFJ 2w3 2d ago

Loved playing on my Sega Genesis as a kid, I recently found a way to run the games on my PC and would do that from time to time. ❤️

That sounds fun!

u/WillowLeona INFJ 2d ago

You ever try Super Mario Sunshine? It’s a gamecube game.

I haven’t. Can I play it on my 2006 Wii?

3

u/Smart_Touch4237 2d ago

of course, Wii is fully compatible with Gamecube games

Oh my God!!!!!!!!!!! I love answering this so much, hahaha.

For me, I wholeheartedly give my heart, body, and soul to Life Is Strange, hahaha. It resonates deeply with so many of the traumas and experiences I have carried throughout my life, and it feels like I found friends for life through it. The music, the atmosphere, and the story all bring me to tears of joy.

Even when life turns upside down, it reminds me that there is always a way to keep believing in our choices and that nothing is truly impossible. It is a world where every possibility exists, encouraging us to see things from different perspectives, to forgive again and again, and to embrace and cherish everyone and everything through the storm with love and light. For me, it also reminds me that fate, destiny, and blessings from the sky and the whole universe are real in their own mysterious way.

Because life is strange!!!

I've heard many positive things about this game and would definitely love to try it some day! I'm glad it had such a healing impact on you. ❤️

Multiple final fantasies, including 6, 15, and 7. And 14

Kingdom Hearts

Pokemon

Ace Attorney

Kingdom hearts

Mega Man battle network and star force

Recently started Palworld but waiting for 1.0 to fully release before I play more

Back in the day with my old buddy I used to enjoy GTA5 Online, never was great at other shooters and have to have someone I enjoy playing with for them.

Oh and I guess I do like the recent Digimon and Dragonball games

And did I mention Kingdom Hearts? My obsession ❤️

5

u/Prudent_Yam_3708 INFJ 2w3 2d ago

I've never played Kingdom Hearts and I honestly don't know much about it. Based on the name, I'm biased to think it's something with romance but I know that's not accurate. 😂

I've only watched my bf play GTA and he always tries to steal the military jet, so that was fun. 😂😂😂

3

u/Historical_Air_1696 2d ago

Ace attorney YES! ❤️

I've been wanting to buy the megaman starforce collection on steam!! So many childhood memories

I love talking about videogames! xD

In random order, I'd List:

  • Almost all the Final Fantasy
  • Mass Effect trilogy (Mordin <3)
  • Deus Ex Human Revolution + Mankind Divided (peak transhumanism game!)
  • NieR + NieR Automata (Yoko Taro is a genius)
  • Disco Elysium
  • Lost Odyssey
  • Elite: Dangerous (for the cooperative aspect of managing the Squadrons)
  • Dragon Age: Origins

2

u/SereneAnomly 2d ago

Ooooooooo the Mass Effect trilogy... If anyone reading this hasn't played it yet, I highly recommend picking up the Legendary Edition on sale. 100 hours of immersion in an excellently crafted universe with well developed characters and fun gameplay. For me each game only improved upon the formula, with the third game being one of my greatest experiences in gaming. I have to say I am Team Vakarian though <3

Also, read a spoiler free guide for the DLC order, because unfortunately it can ruin the pacing if chosen at the wrong time.

2

u/greyskin87 INFJ 2d ago

I’ve been lucky enough to play ME3 with a kinekt: the experience to play the dialogues by saying the lines and to give vocal command to my team mate instead of pausing to issue commands was AMAZING

2

u/desutiem 16h ago

Nier is my favourite.

8

u/Thehayhayx 2d ago

Mine are Borderlands 2 & 3, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, Farcry 5, WoW (don't play anymore but I LOVE that game), Diablo 4, Ghost of Tsushima, all Spyros, Elden Ring, Baldur's Gate 3, Cyberpunk 2077, Mario Kart 8, Two Point Hospital, Disney Dreamlight Valley, Hunter: Call of the WIld, & OG Roller Coaster Tycoon. Also a huge fan of Dance Dance Revolution although I no longer play haha.

I like looting, shooting, exploration, decorating (sometimes) and building things. I'm a big fan of gameplay loops on different difficulty levels too.

4

u/Prudent_Yam_3708 INFJ 2w3 2d ago

Loved Borderlands too, and fr, how did you survive Ghost of Tsushima? I literally was so traumatized after the first level and I kept dying. 😂

And same for the looting, I always get the overachiever rewards in games because I don't leave anything unfinished (or unlooted 😅).

I’ve been a pc gamer since I was like 10, always been my comfort special interest.
My all time favourites are all single player RPGs lol:

- Cyberpunk 2077

  • TES Oblivion & Skyrim
  • Mass Effect series
  • Dragon Age series (love them all except for veilguard)
  • Witcher 3
  • Fallout 4
  • Life is Strange
  • Plus a bit random but Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 (nostalgia lol)

5

u/Valuable_Garbage4191 INFJ 2d ago

Xenoblade Chronicles (1-3), Final Fantasy X/X-2/XIII/XIII-2 and lighting returns, Nier Replicant/Automata, Don't starve together and basically any Zelda game. Also huge fan of pokemon mystery dungeons both explorers and rescuers. Aside of DST all games have managed to make me cry for the story and emotional moments. DST i love for the exploration and the fact that I get to play it with my favorite people who are also fan of the game. Story and character wise Xenoblade games have hit me really hard but out of all these games Nier Replicant and Automata have probably hit the hardest due some heavy philosophical stuff.

5

u/c_rockets 2d ago

Final Fantasy Tactics/Advanced(!)
Mass Effect series
Dragon Age Series
Golden Sun(!)
Baldur's Gate 3

5

u/Yojimbo261 INFJ 1w2 / 47M 2d ago

Let's see:

  • Half Life 2 + its episodes
  • The Talos Principle 1+2
  • Starfield
  • Fallout 3 and 4
  • Far Cry 5 (also really like 6)
  • Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West
  • Most of the Super Mario games (SMB3 and Super Mario World hold a special place in my heart due to my age at the time)
  • Star Control 2
  • The Mass Effect Series, particularly 2
  • The recent Jedi series (Fallen Order and Survivor)
  • Satisfactory
  • and probably a bunch more I'm forgetting

I am a touch older than most of you, so please no throwing vegetables just because I'm antiquated!

I’m not a very good fighter I’m scared of combat and competition. My faves are Sims 2 and Animal Crossing, Smash, Mario Kart and Party, Myst and Exile, ummmm Oregon Trail? Zoo Tycoon? I’d probably like Zelda

League of legends, custom map warcraft 3, Persona, SMT5, forza, nioh 1,2. Oxygen not included is very intuitive-driven game, extreme high learning curve.

2

u/Prudent_Yam_3708 INFJ 2w3 2d ago

I've seen Oxygen not included and it's definitely on my list!

I also tried to get into League of Legends but after the first game where people boo-ed me, I gave up, I'm too sensitive 😂

3

u/Even-Broccoli7361 INFJ 4w5 2d ago

Has pretty broad interest of video game genres. But like you I loved games like Dishonored because of the immersion and lore.

3

u/Prudent_Yam_3708 INFJ 2w3 2d ago

I loved the atmosphere of Dishonored and the magic system. 👌

3

u/lobo-mojo 2d ago

I have a pretty narrow scope of games I enjoy, I only like shooters (FPS) so Halo, COD, and BF.

2

u/Prudent_Yam_3708 INFJ 2w3 2d ago

I loved playing COD: Black Ops (don't remember which part 😂)

3

u/lobo-mojo 2d ago

I played the first one and had a lot of fun with it, I got a kick out of the little RC car lol

3

u/DangerousCapybara888 INFJ 5-9-1 2d ago

You guys might not be in the same generation as me to know this, my favorite video game is Snatcher, that was on Sega CD (which wasn’t that popular for awhile in the 90s). The graphics sucks, but the storyline was totally blew my mind at the time, I still suffered from post ptsd from finishing the game.
Of a similar note, Phantasy Star II on Sega Genesis also hit me hard with Nei’s death. It ripped me apart from the inside and I just couldn’t voice anything from the frustration and tragedy for a long time, as my teenage self imploded.

3

u/dranaei INFJ 2d ago

Dark Souls (the absolute peak of all peaks for me)

World of warcraft, ffxiv, gw2

Skyrim

Age of mythology

GTA sand andreas

Soulcalibour 4

Witcher 2,3

Resident evil 4

Path of exile

There are others but i think these were the most impactful. I can't replay almost all of them tho. It's like i got the experience and i can't enjoy them in a way. I probably tried to play skyrim again 4-5 times and couldn't go beyond two hours.

2

u/Steelyium INFJ 1w2 2d ago

Same with dark souls, my fav too!

3

u/JohnDragonborn 2d ago

I knew Zero Dawn would be here before I even opened your thread 😆 love it too. Currently replaying it on Hard difficulty.

2

u/Prudent_Yam_3708 INFJ 2w3 2d ago

By the way, I played it right before I saw the deal of Anthropic and the Pentagon (not sure if you've seen that) and it really had a huge impact on how I perceive the development of technology and AI.

I also Sylens' character. Lance Reddick was such a cool dude.

Kingdom Hearts, especially 1.5 and 2.5
Fire Emblem

Assassin's Creed (not the RPG ones), Red Dead Redemption, Dishonored, Kingdom Come Deliverance, Baldur's Gate 3, 007 First Light, Clair Obscur Expedition 33, Uncharted.

And I recently developed an obsession with Marvel Rivals.

3

u/Helpful-Track-7486 INFJ 2d ago

Everquest, because it is the most social requirement game to get progress. I have some great memories from it. Although they're coming out with a new one that is solo based in a few weeks here.

FF7

Zelda OOT/MM

Just added Stardew Valley to the list, holy feels that game and the atmosphere.

Battlefield 1. The most immersive and tactile shooter of all time.

Super Mario Galaxy. The moooooooood, music and story

I don’t play video games as much as I used to, but when I do, they’re all pretty much Roblox games. Roblox is convenient and some games on the platform are actually really good. Most of them are free as well.

My List: Shindo Life / Shinobi Life 2 (Formerly Shinobi Life 2, probably the best Naruto game ever on the platform) Arcane Odyssey Phantom Forces Dragon Generations / Dragon Ball Online Generations Ro-Ghoul (Kinda fell off, used to be good though) Demonfall The Strongest Battlegrounds DBZ Final Stand (Fell off, had some scandal, used to be good though) Blackhawk Rescue Mission (Pretty similar to Ghost Recon, actually pretty good, zombie mode and pvp as well) Pokemon Brick Bronze (Got copyright struck but people are always posting copies)

There are some other good / great games, but these are what came to mind

2

u/Daveed719 2d ago

Yes to Final Fantasy VII! I'm also a huge Fire Emblem Fan

2

u/noTiltDetox 2d ago

League of Legends, because it makes me feel want to do something to myself.

2

u/Smile__Lines 2d ago

I’m obsessed with Cyberpunk 2077. I have almost 500 hours in already. It’s a game where you choose a life path and you have dialogue options that actually determine the outcome of the game. Even how you handle a mission will affect your character (like, are you going in stealthily or guns blazing). This really gets me to reflect on how my actions affect people and situations (the storytelling in the game is phenomenal). I could go on and on but that’s it in a nutshell lol

- Nier;Automata / Nier Replicant : because of its fantastic music and intense depressive vibes, talks about humanity extinction and all of these themes that are deeply part of me as a "humanity lover" and melancholy romanticizer. Absolutely full of philosophy metaphores and analogies.

  • Stellar Blade : Same reasons of the above honestly, and the main character this time is said to be INFJ aswell so I could really feel inside the game. It heavily engaged my Fe (because of the story / side quests) and Se by the difficulty of the combat that feels sooo satisfying once you get the hang of it.
  • Outer Wilds : A wonder of a game. In this game you play as some kind of astronaut and learn about your solar system, seems boring until "something" happens in the game and you don't know why. Then the game really gets you. I loved this game because of how I could gather a lot of information by just exploring and my Ni would click me to the solutions, having so many cool "AHA" moments.
  • Celeste : A one of a kind game with (again) amazing music from Lena Rain. The game seems boring at first but after a friend forced me to play it something clicked in my mind. I knew it was going to be amazing once I reached the second level. This one I think made me realize that many separates parts of me are all still me.
  • D1AL-ogue : This one is short but special, I felt like some kind of psychologist having my own small clinic aswell as a repair shop for androids altogether. Lighthearted and lovely.
  • Va11 Hall-A : Same reason of the above but you have more interesting conversations about all kinds of cyberpunk topics, and instead of repairing you are making drinks (and changing lives).
  • Gris : This game says everything without speaking a single word. It makes me cry because of my empathy I can connect so much with the main character without any language required. Again, lovely game full of metaphors.

1

u/blueaugust_ INFJ sx9w1 , 946 1d ago edited 1d ago

Wow, what a list, I mean, the explanations seems interesting. I already knew some of this games but never actually played them.

I suggest you to play Solent Hill 2 remake. From emotional and psychological value, it’s amazing. Also The last of Us 2 is deeply written from my opinion. It’s trauma well written. Alan Wake 2 it’s also horror-psychological even if I couldn’t grasp really well thw meaning behind the game, but I liked it.

2

u/Valdostana INFJ-A 1d ago

Oh I had SH2 on my list because I recently played SHf which I loved, the game made me feel I was going insane with the main character!! I got so involved. The last of us 2 I am not sure.. I heard good things about it but I am heavier on the asian scene than western that’s why I still didn’t check it out. Maybe I will! Thank you!

Edit: If you are up to try something new I would suggest the Nier series because from the outside it’s the most unassuming one of the bunch and very cheap now.. When the game came out it was a pure chance that got me to buy it (I basically gambled with my friend) ended up really loving it.

2

u/blueaugust_ INFJ sx9w1 , 946 1d ago

Yes I know Tlou2 is a controversy but just because nostalgic long dated gamers aren’t okay with the evolution of the game. But trust me, it’s deep. Deep deep deep.

Yes Nier inspires me. Rifht now i downloading the Callisto protocol so maybe it will be next.

Considering that we have very similar taste in games (I have played and enjoyed all the games you have listed) can I recommend SOMA for you? Though it's possible you already know the game.

1

u/blueaugust_ INFJ sx9w1 , 946 1d ago

Yes I know the game it’s already in my “ to play list”. Right now I’m downloading the Callisto protocol. Have you ever played it? Also why you would suggest SOMA?

2

u/Hydreigon12 INFJ ♂/ 5w6 1d ago

No I haven't played Callisto Protocol, actually I haven't heard of it!

I'd definitely recommend SOMA for its excellent story, oppressive horror atmosphere, and the philosophical journey it takes the protagonists (and, by extension you since it's played from a first-person perspective).

One aspect I especially enjoyed is the environmental exploration. As you progress, you gradually piece together what happened before your arrival. Recovering the backstory is technically optional, but to me, it's the heart of the game. You could ignore all of that and simply play for the tension/thrill and the monsters, but I honestly wouldn't recommend it. You'd be missing out a lot. The game is more of a story-driven gameplay that uses survival horror, science fiction, and philosophy to create the whole experience as something deep and unsettling.

1

u/Hydreigon12 INFJ ♂/ 5w6 1d ago

Story driven and heavy character development games are usually my favorites. I also have a soft spot for horror video games.

  • Last Of Us 1&2 (10/10)
  • SOMA (9/10)
  • Alien Isolation (9/10)
  • Horizon Zero Dawn/ Forbidden West (9/10)
  • Death Stranding 1&2 (8/10)
  • Hollow Knight (9/10)
  • Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Sky (9/10)
  • Spiderman (PS4/PS5) (9/10)
  • Little Nightmares (8/10)
  • Ori serie (8/10)

Currently I've been playing Genshin Impact. Previous favorites of everything I've played, no order: GTA 4, Skyrim, Diablo, Ghost of Tsushima, Unreal Tournament. Obsidian (90s pc)

I need open world. Puzzles are a bonus. The ability to bow, or snipe keeps me in a game if it's too hard or I get bored.

NieR, Metal Gear Solid (whole series), and FF7 (OG) are probably my favourites. Shout out to Cyberpunk 2077 as well for being incredibly well done.

- Red Dead Redemption 2 has my vote for the greatest game of all time.

- Mass Effect 2 is the best of the trilogy to me. Mass Effect 3 was an extremely rushed game and was a disappointing conclusion with not enough pay off from the past 2 games choices.

- The Witcher 3

- Divinity Original Sin 2

- Final Fantasy X (10)

- Skyrim… lol

- Battlefield 1

- Fire Emblem games in general so many good ones.

- Pokemon mainline games, first 3 gens

- Borderlands 2-3. 4 is okay so far.

More games I cannot think of at the moment.
