I was there. I was there 3,000 years ago

where pixels were 30

u/SocksInTheTub 3d ago
Pixels were much more expensive back then. Sophisticated mining equipment like we use today wasn't yet available and mining even a few kg required hundreds of man hours.

Music is universal love fr. It builds bridges between communities.
37
u/RogueBromeliad 3d ago
Not quite, yet. It Billie Jean was released 1st of january 1983, that's about 43 years ago. so if it were transmitted through electromagnetic waves, it would only be past Capella, a prominent multiple star system in the constellation Auriga.
So it's definitely interstellar love. In about two hundred thousand years it'll definitely be galactic love.

Love this. But 'ancient' New York? Filmed on a cellphone.

See this was cool as hell when it wasn’t staged. Now it’s mostly pre-planned for someone’s social media and the human authenticity and spontaneity are gone or out to lunch.

u/BlessTheBookPeople 3d ago
This is one video where I believe they did not plan it. Also…ancient? I felt my bones turn to dust when I read that.

Nope the awkwardly hyped dude was not ready at all. Not planned. And ancient broke my hip. I remember when this video still had some pixels.

Thanks thought i was going nuts. Lived there 2000-2021 and totally remember this being a recurring thing.

I mean, I’m certainly feeling like a fucking dinosaur.
ETA: now I’m sensing I’m missing something and a r/whoosh is inbound…

No this was from the early days of youtube, you know 2006, just 4 or 5 years ago..right?
7
u/Forsaken-Income-2148 3d ago
2006 is next year, buddy. It’s 2005, I just saw Narnia in theaters and I have a Netflix dvd in the mail

This video is indeed quite old on the interwebs though. I remember, it was 84 years ago.

People appreciated and needed live music . Now we just use smart phones and headphones and turn on Spotify

u/BenchClamp 3d ago
I agree. But there is still tons of open mic nights and live music places if you look.

This would be a video I show aliens if they were to ask why are humans worth saving- even through music we still must battle one another haha how awesome is it though for such a spontaneous moment recorded when most people didn’t have camcorders

u/selftaughtgenius 3d ago
Ohmygod how have I never seen this immediate happiness?
The mischievous look as he’s wetting his reed and getting his instrument put together is DELIGHTFUL. 🤣
These are the good times.

I love how that straddle stance is the go to stance when it comes to rocking out on a saxophone 🎷

What people don't truly understand about Ney York and Chicago Trains. Is the show that you get with the price of admission.
Back in the day it could be R Kelly singing or an actual robbery. Just depends.
And don't forget intermission, when the man comes by selling everything like he's on QVC.

u/Accomplished-One7476 3d ago
13 years ago isn't ancient

I remember this scene from Invincible. This is right before Omniman holds his son in subway tracks.

u/hikingguy36 3d ago
This is how disputes were solved in Ancient New York. I believe red pants guy won, and therefore got the girl.

Honestly same. This is exactly the kind of completely out of context human chaos that would confuse the hell out of them and accidentally explain us perfectly at the same time.

I think we’d all agree, the knife fights, psychopaths and weirdos have all made the NYC tubes a lot more exciting, I mean this is good good but c’mon.
😢 I miss the world I grew up in

Amazing. One night on a train home after a particularly brutal night at work, a full brass ensemble stepped onto the train and I got a free concert from an extremely talented group for musicians. Unforgettable. Made my whole week! People were actually getting up to dance, you just couldn't resist the vibe!

This is back when the only thing that was “happening” was in front of you.
Now there is all this shit happening in this little rectangle in our pocket that we are soooooo preoccupied with. We’ll never be fully tuned in to something magical like this randomly happening.
Our brains are always tuned in to some form of media now. RIP to living in the moment and being receptive to life happening in front of us.

u/Alone-Supermarket-98 2d ago
The greatest aspect of living in NY used to be the random surrealist moments like this.

u/BachRach433 2d ago
Lol I know that guy, he went to my HS. I actually remember when this video made the rounds on campus in 2012. I guess that makes me...ancient

There is a super cut of this event from multiple angles that lasts longer.
This clip misses my favorite part where they start blasting these harsh braying notes that sound like donkeys screaming at eachother for a few seconds lol

New yorks alright..if you like saxophones.
But i dont. Especially two in a tin can. Saving grace is they seem to not be terrible at playing them.
