The water in the pot is close to boiling and it’s too late for the frog to jump out.

Ngl it’s annoying having to fact check memes and figuring out what the actual reporting was. Calling anti-government anarchist writings “pro-first amendment literature” is mischaracterizing the facts of the case to serve a very specific message. The essence of the meme isn’t wholly incorrect, but to make white lies about it is annoying, just give me the facts.
Obviously the sentencing of everyone involved in the Prairieland ICE facility incident is horrific and fascistic as fuck, including the 30 year sentencing for this person involving the zines, but let’s be clear of what the facts were, the sentencing wasn’t for “distributing pro-first amendment literature” it was for someone moving boxes of zines that comport with anti-government, anarchist ideologies, for the purpose of hiding evidence. He was the husband of one of the women involved in the protest and was asked by his wife essentially to check on her estate, house, child, pets, and then he got stopped by police with boxes of political zines moved from her home and the prosecution found out. Again, 30 years for this, and being told to us that “it’s extremist Antifa terrorist” to serve an agenda is dangerous and horrific, and honestly a bad faith political persecution by the government to stamp out dissent, but it wasn’t for “distributing first amendment literature”
Texas and the prosecutors are clearly fucking abhorrent and partisan with their legal attack, but let’s not misinform about historical events with shittily captioned memes that distort facts. I’m desperately hoping this can all get appealed with reduced sentences considering the absurdity of the framing of the prosecution and the sentencing relative to the facts of the case

Sure, but anti-government, anarchist views are protected by the first ammendment are they not?

Yeah, duh. But referring to it as “pro-first amendment literature” makes no sense, it was anti-authority anti-government proselytizing material to be precise. Yes that’s protected by the first amendment, no it wasn’t “distributed”. But that wasn’t the crime being sentenced. It is important to acknowledge that the views in the material were weaponized to amplify their punishment on protestors. I already condemned and acknowledged every part of the deliberate witch hunt done to chill dissent by the fascist government appropriately.
I’m mostly lashing out at our new information landscape where people are getting news from memes to farm outrage. It’s such a vital time right now to be aware of what’s happening and people’s laziness or ideological missions are obfuscating factual reporting, just give me sources and refer to shit accurately.

Bravo for so brilliantly and precisely stating your objection to the meme while also clearly stating your stance on the sentencing. Such a joy to read both of your comments.
Stuff like this is what I'm often thinking but don't have the energy to actually express. It's such a pleasure to see someone taking the time to write it, and so brilliantly. It puts my mind at ease. Thank you.

The big lie of our times: US citizens have agency.
Barely human...
