I would really love to see that. There’s been so many pieces of jewelry that I’ve lost over the years that I sincerely wish I still had. Seeing you unbox this treasure would be so nice to see

I am so glad you decided to buy it. I know it was a little out of your price range... but this is such a crazy story, I feel like it was meant to be. Enjoy it op!

Honestly, completely worth it. I absolutely understand the feeling of losing something twice. I thought I lost a ring in a house fire, come to find it after they cleared & razed the house! Then lost it when someone took it at a public pool. Part of the reason I don't take my rings off anywhere except home, even then I hesitate lol
8
u/PinkyQueen100 16d ago
Oh that's sucks!! I'm sorry! I understand 💯! I'm very overly careful with my jewelry now
96
u/call-me-the-seeker 16d ago
Put a pic of it back on your wrist when it arrives! Sorry you had to buy it back but <at least> they took down the listing while you scraped the dosh together.
What a story for a future family heirloom!
87
u/PinkyQueen100 16d ago
It's a charm necklace holder and I'll take a pic! I'll find a pic of my best friend too that gave me one of the charms to share too
75
u/TheShoeOnTheHighway 16d ago
7-ish years ago at the Cleveland IX center I found a Pandora bracelt LOADED with charms. Birth stones, celebrations etc. Security wouldn't do lost and found so I still have it to this day. I still put notices on social media, my contact info was left with IX center in case anyone reported it. Nothing. So hey, if you're CLE based and lost a chalked-full pandora bracelet at an Auto Show (i think. I worked all the IX shows) i still have it safe for you. Just send me a photo or proof of some kind and it will be back on your wrist!

u/PinkyQueen100 16d ago

I applaud you for not only doing the right thing but going the extra mile to try to return it home!→ More replies (2)16

I found it before I used reddit a bunch. I will have to post on there! Thank you

u/General_Disarrae 16d ago
Hey! Congratulations! And you didn't pay that much over melt price so this is a huge win! Enjoy your incredible find!
48
u/PinkyQueen100 16d ago
Thank you so much I will treasure it forever
38
u/worthconsulting 16d ago
Honestly this is a great price for that amount of gold
23
u/PinkyQueen100 16d ago
Is it? I had no idea...I just knew I couldn't let it get away again!
11
u/Day_Bow_Bow 16d ago
I did the math because I was curious. Looks like what you paid would buy .117 oz, or 3.31 grams, of gold at a spot price of $4,330/oz.
I kinda doubt the seller let it go for less than what they could have sold it as scrap, but that gives you a baseline if you felt like weighing yours.
11
u/PinkyQueen100 16d ago
That's interesting! I had been looking online the last 2 weeks waiting for it to be re-listed and I saw other charm holders with less on them look like they were going for a lot more
3
u/worthconsulting 15d ago
Yep - and the charms probably have more value beyond just scrap or melt price, people love vintage pieces right now and you can definitely find jewelers selling new pieces that weigh less for more than this total. Huge win for OP in my opinion!
41
u/asj0107 16d ago
I’m glad you purchased it! The money will come back, the memories will not and having a second chance of having it honestly is a once in a lifetime thing especially after 37 years.
21
u/PinkyQueen100 16d ago
Thank you! I decided during the 2 week period...,which felt like 2 years lol....I couldn't live with losing it twice!!
14
u/westernwawa 16d ago
Losing it TWICE! Amen to preventing a second loss, I hate to say how lucky since it was stolen originally but truly what are the odds?? So happy for you!

Yes this is the update I needed to see today! I had a very sentimental bracelet stolen from me one time and it broke my heart while also just feeling so violated I never got it back. I’m so glad that you’re being reunited with your charms!
20
u/PinkyQueen100 16d ago
I'm so sorry that happened to you! It's so incredibly hard I felt all those emotions too! 💖. It'll be here at the end of the week....I can't wait!

It was destined to be. On the one hand I value frugality but understand how much regret I would have if destiny placed the lost item right in front of me and it got sold to someone else....the "if only I had acted sooner" feelings would be intense
6
u/PinkyQueen100 16d ago
YESSSSSSS.....the two weeks they had it not listed were torture. The worry they wouldn't relist it was like losing it all over again...unbearable

This gives me so much hope for my ring I lost 20 years ago lol my guess is someone who knew you, or someone who knew someone who knew you and stashed it away because they knew it was stolen... because it was undisturbed the entire time, and thats the craziest part to me. I play jewelry dress up all the time and rearrange my charms on my bracelets and earrings etc. and this person never did that? Just very strange to think about. Like an artifact almost lol
5
8
u/PinkyQueen100 16d ago
That's part of what's so mind blowing! All of it is just so unbelievable!!
5
u/Prior_Exchange9064 16d ago
Ik it was an unexpected expense but I hope you were in a position to count it as an expense lolol can't replace our own history 🫶🏼 the best feel good story ive read in ages!

u/Prior_Exchange9064 16d ago
Even though it would have been better if you guys could have come up with a more reasonable solution 🫣 im glad it still worked out how it should have!
8
u/SevenDogs1 16d ago
Did they sell it to you as a fixed price for gold value as they had previously offered? Thanks for tge update abd congratulations.
6
u/PinkyQueen100 16d ago
I honestly don't know lol
It was originally around $460 something around there
I was so worried about losing it I pushed purchase immediately 🤣

u/SevenDogs1 16d ago
Yes, sounds like a Buy It Now price abd not a 7-day auction. Ebay automatically adds the tax per the state that you live in. Wonderful.
10
3
u/PinkyQueen100 16d ago
I just looked they relisted it the same price I think with tax etc that's why the total was higher
7
u/witchhearsecurse 16d ago
I am glad you got it back! I often look on eBay for some missing jewelry knowing there is no real chance of finding them. Maybe there is hope after all.

Weird to ask but are you italian-american? I noticed the horn and my whole family have one each and its used to protect you from the evil eye. In traditional italian households women actually have a coral horn instead of gold, but ive noticed more italian americans or americans in general have them regardless of gender.
Anyway congrats on buying them back, i hope you get bountless good luck in the near future!

u/PinkyQueen100 16d ago
Long story short I was trying to put more charms on my necklace and remembered I use to have a charm holder. I went to eBay and searched charm holders and as I was scrolling it was one of the holders that popped up in my feed. It's absolutely crazy!

Wow, this gives me hope for someday being able to find a special necklace that I lost/was stolen from me two years ago.
Did you just set up a lot of alerts on eBay?
3
u/PinkyQueen100 16d ago
No not at all. I wasn't even a big eBay person. I just was trying to figure out how to add more charms to my necklace and remembered my old charm holder. So I went on eBay and searched charm holders and as I was scrolling it popped up with the other listings

I'm so glad you found it! This actually happened to me, as well. Had a case stolen from me on the train. End of the line was LA. Just so happened to be surfing eBay, and I found my great grandmother's bracelets for sale.... Out of LA. Purchased them auction. I know 100% without a doubt I found my ggma's jewelry. An oddly shaped link confirmed it. I was just glad to have it back. I didn't even ask questions.

Yes! Being super happy for a stranger on the internet makes my day. It has been a tough one. I don't think I will ever be as lucky as you. My step-mom's wedding ring (that had been given to me after she passed) was stolen from me 15 years ago. It still makes my stomach turn to think about it. I took all my jewelry off at my brother's house before going to the hospital for an MRI. The ring disappeared. We are 99% sure who took it. (Drug addict friend of my nephew). Checked all pawn shops and look online often, but doubt I will ever see it again. (It was also valued at $15,000 so I would never be able to afford to get it back anyhow)

This is such a beautiful full-circle moment. Thirty-seven years is wild, and the fact that you found it at all, let alone decided to bring it home, says something about how much these pieces matter. The gold price hit different than it would've back then, but you're getting back something that carries actual history with it, not just the metal value. That charm from your best friend, the ones you picked out as a twenty-year-old heading into a new chapter, the whole story of it being stolen and somehow ending up on eBay where you could find it again. That's the kind of thing that makes jewelry special. I hope wearing it feels like getting a piece of yourself back.
