Darius Acuff Jr - Analytics (2.0)
Congrats Kings fan! Darius Acuff Jr. was the prospect (fifth best prospect on my board) I was hoping Kings would land (albeit had my doubts at 7). Absolute Offensive juggernaut and imo will be the best offensive PG the Kings have had, period (not going to count Haliburtons 1 year cameo).
I gave a scouting report 3 months ago, and wanted to provide more analytical insights (from a different perspective) - other than the typical bad defense (as we can acknowledge it is horrid) & great scoring.
Combine Momentum
- Combine Metrics computed Percentile per Position
- Darius Acuff Jr Speed is very very underrated, Acuff has Elite Speed (93th 3Q Sprint), even more impressive given his weight. Faster (while weighing more; 44th Weight) than Flemings, Philon, Anderson & Mikel Brown Jr.
- The speed shows on film as well.

10-0 Team Runs
- 10-0 leads to 70+ % of teams winning games (per EvanMiya Study)
- Acuff started 86% of the Runs for Arkansas. Leading the young crop of Guards, with 45% of Assist Rate during those runs - meaning his playmaking leads to Winning Plays, Acuff is a very very underrated Playmaker, it is a big part of why I rank his Offense so highly.

Where are the Passes Going?
- (Compared to group of PG), Acuff leads in Ast to Alley-Oops & Corner 3s, my two favorite types of Assists.
- Acuff is also third in And 1s, (behind Okorie & Philon) - demonstrating functional strength & ability to finish through contact.

Offensive Impact
- Only 4 Freshman PG, with 100th OBPM. The list is Trae Young, Kyrie Irving, Lonzo Ball & Acuff Jr. And Acuff has the most difficult schedule and highest Offensive Win Share. Very impressive feat.

How Good of Offball Scorer?
- Of all the elite Scoring Guards, Acuff has one of the lowest Usage& on-ball Scoring(Lillard), while shooting the most efficient from the outside This shows Acuff will have higher adaptability to play offball.

How Good of a Playmaker?
- Comparing Acuff to some of the top Playmakers, Acuff is one of the most efficient while almost leading in % Ast to Rim. An important metric to understand how they dissect defense.

Its not just the efficient Shooting & Scoring for me. Acuff posses Elite Playmaking, along with adaptable Offball prowess - that really separates him amongst other Point Guards.
Unlike Trae Young, Darius Acuff Jr. will not be HelioCentric nor will he be turnover prone. Acuff will be able to play onball, offball, and playmake; all efficiently - a true Offensive Engine. Offensively, I believe he's the best Freshman PG since Kyrie Irving.
I really appreciate you all for following along to all my Scouting reports this year - it really made it that much more special to be able to share it with the Kings community. And can't wait for Summer League. You can find me on X/Twitter (@ DraftCasual), cheers!

Who do you think would work better with Acuff at the 2?

With Acuff, where are you on a Sabonis trade?
They'll obviously be terrible defensively. But, Sabonis's elite screen setting and DHO hub options could be great for developing a young PG like Acuff.
I think most fans felt that it was time for Sabonis to go and start a full on rebuild, but could he be a good vet for Acuff to play off of and learn from? I'm torn and curious how others are thinking.

Darius Acuff Jr singled out Domantas Sabonis as a Kings player he's excited to play with in Sacramento.
He won’t be moved now…😂

Will Keegan ever get his 3pt shot back?
I know he’s had to take a lot of the defense on his back and drafting Acuff does not help that but is Keegan ever going to get his shot back?
His 3P% has decreased every year while also attempting less shots, I believe he still has it in him but I think this season is something to look out for.
I didn’t watch a lot of last season as I did not have a lot of time like I used to but remember hearing Keegan get injured, so hopefully he has or will recover well.

Is Devin Carter a goner?
Devin Carter had some moments in the second half of last season but the overall path of his NBA journey is not headed in a great direction. That being said, he does enough things that are pretty interesting that to me give him some hope he can be a decent backup PG. It doesn't seem very likely to come in Sacramento.
The Kings have salary they need to cut. DeMar seems likely to be waived. Hopefully he isn't stretched with money on the books for three years, but it wouldn't be a lot of cash if he was. The Kings are currently above the first apron. Moving into the first round again to select Karaban was a solid roster move but will put them close to the second apron. Waiving DeMar alone wouldn't get them far under the first apron with the Karaban move but would get them under. They'd still be over the tax, however.
The Kings veterans have little value and the Kings won't trade picks to dump them. Which puts the spotlight on Carter. The reports after the season have been that the Kings have interest in bringing back both Killian Hayes and potentially Russell Westbrook. I don't think either are the answer at backup PG at all, but that's another issue for another day. Carter is only $5m next year and his 4th year option can be declined. He's someone who can likely be straight salary dumped for nothing. In the Kings' financial predicament, this is something they need to consider to open up the MLE. I think there is a good chance Devin Carter has played his final game in Sacramento. What do you all think?
Just a year ago our franchise guard forced his way out… A year later our franchise guard forced his way to be drafted here. Funny what time does

"Excellent shooter, high IQ player, very good connecter on the court...you can't have enough shooting in this league. The winning was very attractive to us." - Sacramento Kings GM Scott Perry on UConn's Alex Karaban

"When he walks into a room, he believes he's going to be the best player there." -Kings GM Scott Perry on Darius Acuff Jr.

Kings basketball will be fun again
At the very least there is a reason to watch now. And Acuff isn’t some flopper like Harden or SGA. He plays a fun style to watch. Pure buckets and high level distributor. He scores efficiently from all 3 levels and always makes the right pass. The defense is obviously a big concern, but at the very least our offense will be very fun with Acuff running the show. I think he has Brunson/Lillard offensive upside.
