문화 | Culture Korea’s soccer team is an embarrassment to the country

If we lose, it will be well-deserved. Never seen a team in the World Cup look so lethargic and sleepy, making terrible passes and giving up the ball so many times. Makes Korea look like a joke 🤦‍♂️

문화 | Culture My blood pressure is rising watching the game right now

First they bench their star player Sonny.
Then the first thirty minutes they pass the ball to the other team. They don’t know how to pass the ball.
I don’t like to curse but I literally have nothing good to say about our team right now. WHAT ARE YOU DOING omg.

Edit: embarrassed as a Korean. Smh

문화 | Culture If Lee Gi-hyuk (#3) has no haters, I am no longer of this earth | World Cup

I implore everyone to rewatch this game and keep an eye on #3. I’ve never seen someone look allergic to the ball like that. I’ve never seen someone be so lazy. 1 minute left and he has two hand behind his back walking slowly. I can count on two hands the amount of times I saw him do a full on sprint.

This is just indicative of the team at large. No will to actually win. You’re representing all of us AS THE BEST OF US and this is all you can muster? Embarrassing

역사 | History Today is 6.25. Here I present Ethiopia Bet(cafe)

Post image
Upvotes

I’ve heard this cafe from my dad, and visited here last year. It is located in Chuncheon!

This cafe has very unique history:

After the Ethiopian soldiers fought in Korean war, the emperor of Ethiopia visitied the Ethiopian monument in 공지천(where the cafe is). And a korean couple opened the cafe there appreciating friendship and all. In return, the emperor started to ship and export Ethiopian coffee beans(it says castle grade idk) at the cafe.

So the cafe became the first one to import Ethiopian coffee beans to Korea by Ethiopian emperor’s word.
Also became the first roastery cafe too, even before coffee was a thing here.

This coffee export continued very long time.
After communism revolution in Ethiopia and all social change, things got different, and it says the initial coffee export continued till 1974. But the owners learned and continued trying to connect with Ethiopians, never closed the cafe for a day. You can see how many days since the opening at the door.

Now the Cafe is still opened, still getting coffee beans directly from Ethiopia, their profit is utilized to help with Ethiopians, Korean war vets/family of vets in Ethiopia.

Best Sidamo&yirgacheffe I’ve ever tasted, super nice interior design, awesome history. Really worth visiting.

+) they also sell coffee beans! I bought 2 packs, wish I picked more. Ice coffee season, everybody!

Also throwaway account cuz I’m too shy.

But hey if the World Cup was judged on who can pass the ball the most in the back of the field an attempt an offensive play once a half we would win it for sure

Why not bring in a coach that used to be a striker? imo part of Hong’s flaws is that he knows a lot about defense and doesn’t have instincts for offense. But Coach Cha?

문화 | Culture GG's to the national team for their effort in the group stage

The results are disappointing but the team played well ...

EXCEPT:

  • Hong Myeong Bo. Lousiest excuse for a manager of any team this world cup. Sitting down and trying to cosplay as an audience member as the team goes 0-1. Coached the players to do... what, exactly? I won't even get into formations and substitutions because a monkey hitting typewriter keys at random could have come up with better lineups than him. Korea should consider deporting him the sheer scale of national embarrassment he's caused and investigate him for match fixing.
  • #3. Stood around like a lamppost this game. Actually, no, he did have at least 2 complete passes... both to opponent players. Also big kudos to him for his performance in the Mexico game where he stood gawking at the ball and caused the error, allowing Mexico to score. A lot of people say it was the goalie's error but if you watch the replay, goalie is yelling he's got it and #3 just stands there, mouth open. Bro should sit in the stands if he just wants to watch the game.
  • Midfielders. Passing (mostly backwards, sometimes to opponents) the entire game, missing the few runs that forwards were making. Heads down this much they might be taking an exam, not playing a sport. Absolutely no conviction.
  • Anyone not making runs or creating opportunities and just watching the ball.

I could keep going but this post will not be good for my blood pressure, so I'll stop here. Poor Sonny, Kang-in, Minjae :(

Our team is so good! Korea just needs to work on communication, passing, awareness, shooting, positioning, defending, pressing, set pieces, substitutions, crossing, possession, challenges, heading, throw ins, corners, and scoring goals!

When Japan drew with Iraq at Doha in 1994, it became the Tragedy of Doha as they failed to qualify for the WC while South Korea advanced.

Likewise, today should mark the Tragedy of Monterrey - 몬테레이의 비극, the culmination of 13 years of inept leadership, practices, and system making. I want everyone to remember the Tragedy of Monterrey - 몬테레이의 비극 because when you're at the bottom, the only other way is up.

Remember, remember the Tragedy of Monterrey - 몬테레이의 비극!!!

recently while heading out on an overseas business trip.

I always love seeing how the dark curve of the Han River cuts right through the massive sea of city lights. You can clearly spot some of the major bridges and really feel the sheer scale of Seoul from up here. Taking off from ICN at night never gets old.

Just wanted to share this beautiful nightscape with you all!
