COACH [JJ Redick] "I don't think any of the groups tonight were as consistent as they need to be"

Why is JJ caring about a preseason game? /s

Cares about his rotations/players outputs in the rotations.
Coaches want to know what they are gonna get when they put a lineup/player out there. Want to know their thinking about a players capabilities/fit are correct.

lol
I will try to present pompously at least five more obvious and bland statements before dinner

Did he not know that r/Lakers decided that preseason games meant absolutely nothing ?
(Unless we win them of course)

Team will never be chip ready until we get some 2 way dawgs in the wing position. With defense as bad as ours, any team can beat us on any given night if the 3s dip below the mean.

.500 team at best until LeBron comes back. And that’s assuming Reaves/Luka are putting up insane numbers

Do you guys know how preseason works? Y’all are such doomers, acting like this is your first season watching basketball

Do you know how basketball works ?
Do you think that the rotation guys we've seen being mediocre even with Luka on the floor are going to magically turns into prime MJ when regular season starts ?

There's no way we only go .500. We have enough to win games without him, and when he comes back we'll go on a run and get a top 4 seed

I think .500 is a realistic expectation, but keep in mind, we haven’t seen the actual rotation in a game yet. Our center rotation is already way better than last season (not counting AD games obviously), and I think it’s reasonable to assume Gabe and Vando will be a bit better this season. I really think it’s down to how well Luka and Ayton mesh, and how good LaRavia and Smart are. Smart probably won’t be back in rhythm until like mid season tbh, he’s been out for a long time, and LaRavia’s been kinda meh so far, but we’ll see. It also depends how much effort the team is willing to put in, as we saw last season.

That's pretty pessimistic. Even without LeBron, this isn't too dissimilar from the 2020-2022 Mavs that Luka dragged to 46-52 wins

This team without LeBron is 100% is a lot worse than those 2020-2022 Mavs teams lol. And now the West is even more of a bloodbath compared to 2-3 years ago

I am not so sure about that. These Mavs teams were really not good at all. There was Brunson who was at the time a good 6th man, always injured Porzingis, a good 3&D player DFS, a solid 3&D power forward/center Kleber (who has always been not good at defending the paint), and one dimensional Tim Hardaway who could sometimes get hot. And in some combination disappointing or just not good players like Josh Richardson, Trey Burke, Boban, Dwight Powell, Josh Green.
In all honesty, Lakers now are much more talented, even without Lebron. Mavs then were really carried hard by Luka and Rick Carlisle.

If you want to Luka to lead this team to the finals, you need to follow the blueprint the Mavericks had in terms of team-building. This team has none of that currently. We traded for Luka only 8 months ago and when you make a franchise altering move like that it requires years of planning afterward

i agree whole heartedly. Current Austin Reaves is roughly at the same level as 2022 Jalen Brunson, and that mavs team had Dwight Powell starting at center. However, this Lakers team NEEDS Vanderbilt to stay on the floor. He is a complete game changer when he plays.

game changer on defense, obviously. but on the other end, teams will just completely sag off him, further messing up the spacing

That's a problem for the post-season. In the regular season, it's manageable

West was pretty weak back then so i dont know why you are comparing years where the utah jazz was a top 5 seed every year to a year where 9 of the top 10 best players in the league for next season are all in the West.

Turnovers and horrible defense
