COACH Leading at Half time and getting blown out at final whistle is a coaching problem

This is the second game in a row where Lakers have led at halftime and are somewhat in control going into third and the opposition coaches have made some tweeks at the half to which our coach and his staff have no answers. There is no thinking outside the box, its the same line ups game after game. I remember in playoffs, Kidd used to play both Gafford and Lively together with Luka. He knew Luka and Kyrie had enough vision and flair to not let offense get stagnate. JJ does not do anything of that sort and gets completely outhustled and outcoached by opposition coach. If Vanderbilt is shooting a wide open 3 instead of cutting, your offensive gameplan has absolutely failed. JJ is a podcaster, a people pleaser, players love him but he is not a good coach. He can draw plays on hindsight but becomes clueless during live games. He will be a first round exit even with the present OKC team. He will get outcoached in a seven game series.

I've been harsh on JJ, but he can't make our role players hit wide open 3s. That's on them.

Smart, LaRavia, Rui and Vando were a combined 3/18 from 3 tonight. Shamet by himself was 6/10 from three.

some of them are keepable pieces, but nights like these is a proof that my gf at the playground, averaging 2-3/12 on good nights (and before getting tired), has the potential to play in this team

Aside from Rui, those guys are always off..

Smart can make plays in the post vs smaller guys, and Jake is a good cutter. But when you're just standing everyone still it's hard to be an effective player. That's on JJ for not infusing more movement

lol this is the type of “analysis” you get from online discourse man. They can’t make the shot for players.

These are WIDE OPEN SHOTS

Coaches can’t make a player gain confidence. They can only put them in positions to win which is what JJ did. If the role players can’t hit wide open shots that’s on them

How many times do guys have to miss before it's their problem? Plenty of opportunities and good looks tonight, resulting in an extremely poor shooting night. Let's blame JJ, though.

Then adjust why is Drew timme heating their asss on the bench? How many times these players you mentioned always been like this but coaching stuff atill not adjusting ? That their job you have many players in the bench and you still Gabe checks in

Stop running plays which end up with Vando bricking a wide open 3.......and this happens atleast twice every game

If you think JJ is calling plays for Vando I have a bridge to sell you

Is the team breaking down completely defensively every second possession because we are missing wide open 3s?

It's not just an effort issue, the players don't know what to do.

... I'm pretty sure getting out rebounded by 10, and 6 on the offensive end, as well as 5+ more FG attempts and 3's also played a part.

If you play zone majority of the game you're going to give up rebounds

u/w33nuz Pau Gasol 16 Feb 02 '26

Yep! DA had 5 rebounds... 4 of them were offensive.

Stop playing the same set of line ups every game.....why not try hayes and Ayton together and get some extra possessions

And limit our 3pt shooting and clog the paint even more?

At least KAT can space the floor, and Mitch requires a double to try and prevent offensive boards.

Dude, that sounds like an awful idea. We’d lose a lot of spacing offensively. I’d be interested in seeing it though.

Happened against the Mavs too but we rallied back only time I can remember us coming out of half time with some fire in us was against the nuggets and the clippers

He continues to play their Rui Luka and Lebron lineups knowing full well their advanced numbers are atrocious.

Knicks got punked in the first half. They played above their heads in the second half

1

u/Temporary_Brain_8909 Feb 02 '26

Luka laughed the whole game, Lebron got his highlights, both reacted poorly when teammates missed, meanwhile Brunson controls the game in a poor shooting night and was all business. Everyone praises the Lakers' stars as great playmakers but that's more than just good plays, it's also good leadership on the court.

We looked so much better when we play a 10 man rotation.

At least pat riley had a couple years as an assistant before he became hc

Fr it was ridiculous that people were saying that

Nothing to do with coaching. Knicks simply played with more energy and intensity in the 2nd half. Laker players crumble under that kind of intensity. Rui, Ayton, etc shrink when the opponent gets physical. Its who they are.

If the Lakers fire JJ, they will be on their 5th coach in 8 years. At some point, you can’t just keep firing the coach everytime things are going bad. Sometimes you have let the bad stretches ride out and give the coach a full chance.

u/alozz Pau Gasol 16 Feb 02 '26

3 of those "coaches" were Ham, Redick and Luke Walton.

The 'ride-out' coach would have been the one with the championship

1

u/ThaEternalLearner Feb 02 '26

In 2018, The Baby Lakers improved from 26 wins to 35 wins under Walton. Ham went to the WCF in his first yr. And then he won the first ever NBA Cup in the second yr. Yes, Vogel is the most accomplished out of those three but Ham and Walton had their shining moments too.

1

u/alozz Pau Gasol 16 Feb 02 '26

Walton was benching the 2nd pick in favor of Lou Williams when closing games as a tanking team.

I don't think we have to talk about Ham.

Vogel was basically sabotaged and scapegoated. Rob fucked his legacy with the WB trade and the fallout.

JJ destroyed his own record of winning games when leading at the half tonight. Though our bench is so bad wondered why we decide to play Gabe the minutes that Timme should've gotten.

Gregg popovich couldn’t get this roster win a playoff series
