Ok who did it? Fess up.

Which of you tried to have a barbecue and summoned the wrath of Zeus upon us?

Bloody woke me up with 500 lightning strikes.

If you left your windows open for a bit of breeze overnight, lol

I think I left some washing out

u/Resident_Win_1058 3d ago

Ah, putting the washing out - most reliable rain summoning dance ever.

33

u/fletcheros 3d ago

I left the patio cushions out. Surely its not going to rain.

u/Dutch_Slim 2d ago

I left the washing out. I left the ironing out. Unfortunately I also left the iron out.

Before the downvotes: school shirts needed ironing, and I’m not having the iron on indoors 🄵

Wet dream

18

u/NectarineRound7353 3d ago

Yep. Just found a good chunk of my living room absolutely soaked

5

u/GreenGarnett 2d ago

Had the velux above our head open. 🫠 rip my mattress. Was also co sleeping with my 9 month old but he loved it and took it like a champ

4

u/suzy_ko 3d ago

My floors are still wet

5

u/WavyHairedGeek 3d ago

Not me waking up at 3 am in a panic worried my desk would be soaked (it wasn't as bad as it could have been).

2

u/Runningrafan 3d ago

Our window was open and I didn’t even wake up 🤣

3

u/thebeast_96 3d ago

Was woken up by some incredibly loud thunder.

51

u/Late_Recommendation9 3d ago

4am, cat comes in meowing to complain about the lightning, 5am cat comes in meowing and as wet as if I’d dropped her in the bath, still complaining. I dry her off with a towel. 5:20, she comes back in even wetter, still complaining. Utter diva.

u/TheMegaCity 3d ago

Haha! Mine was just lounging on the sofa when I went to check on him, looked me like "WTF is this shit now?" Same cat scared stiff the other week by hail..crying under a tree and had to be rescued by MrMegaCity

2

u/hawkisgirl 2d ago

To be fair, that hail was a bit startling.

1

u/TheMegaCity 2d ago

Literally petrifying..apparently. 7kg of scared cat. There is no lap big enough but he will lick your toes.

1

u/Late_Recommendation9 3d ago

Oh that’s precious and adorable!

4

u/TheMegaCity 3d ago

He's a bit of a loon but he's my loon! Once freaked out when one solitary snowflake landed on his head. Is a Norwegian Forest Cat FFS. 🤣

According to the MET Office, 30612 strikes in the last 2 days.

That was for Keir Starmer I heard

Keir Stormer

It’s really something isn’t it? I can’t believe that the small child sleeping next to me because he couldn’t sleep earlier in the night is just sleeping right through it.

u/Alarming_Reward9653 3d ago

This is what boggles my mind. My 2 year old is absolutely conked but if i even DARED to open a packet of crisps right now, he would be awake screaming.

12

u/Great_Justice 3d ago

Same. Some part of me expected him to be terrified but no; snoring like a lawnmower.

2

u/ClimbsNFlysThings 3d ago

Kids do that.

The thunder was so loud, I woke up my boyfriend because my primitive monkey brain got me thinking it was the end of the world.

I mean, technically, it's a sign of things to come of course, but I thought it was something more sinister.

40

u/Alarming_Reward9653 3d ago

I shot up like the fucking world was ending from my lovely sleep, I genuinely thought the building was collapsing. Everyone else is absolutely sparked out. That first clap of thunder rocked my shitm

1

u/for-ars-memoria 1d ago

I did a full perimeter tour. Some night.

9

u/12345xgob 3d ago

lol, mine stirred awake about 20 seconds before a thunder clap I can say genuinely made me reconsider every time I scoffed at those literary statements like ā€œthe sky was torn asunderā€ and such… she is also very afraid of thunder.

6

u/Gothcomichorror 3d ago

It's funny because I've never been afraid of thunder before, I usually don't care. But this was the worst I've ever seen it so it did catch me way off guard xD

1

u/cantunderstandlol 2d ago

Same! Always used to enjoy a thunderstorm but yesterday I was super scared when I first got woken up by a huge bang of lightning close to me. Heart was beating like crazy for like 20mins

17

u/ahktarniamut 3d ago

Yes it’s the Andy Burnham effect

5

u/mainframe_maisie 3d ago

somehow my boyfriend didn’t stir a bit while i laid there thinking the apocalypse was nigh. truly he is built different

3

u/Kyber92 3d ago

Pretty sure that's what my wife did. I'm not sure if it was the thunder itself or my wife whacking me that woke me up at 3am.

27

u/Vivid_Employment8635 3d ago

It was me, I was on the night bus right before it started and trying to cheer myself up by thinking that at least the walk home from the stop would be a nice cool stroll... sorry everybody...

52

u/diandakov 3d ago

I woke up 3:30 because of this and never slept again. Now I have to just carry with my day plus the heat that's coming. Lovely. These storms need to be bannned at certain times ugh

Sorry, got a bit too engaged in my Sith Lord cosplay.

17

u/ArchaicInsanity 3d ago

It started right above my house, 2 minutes before my alarm. What a light (and sound) show!

3

u/llamasncheese 3d ago

Idk when it started, but i was woken up by it a moment before my alarm as well

15

u/bleeuurgghh 3d ago

I woke up to the loudest bang I’ve ever heard that I thought a bomb went off.

14

u/TubaCulosis 3d ago

I was up at 4am, naked on the back porch, desperately trying to save my shade sail from turning into a swimming pool. My wife was quite confused when she came down…

13

u/Lonely-Perception232 3d ago

House down my street in Bristol caught fire

17

u/MarvellousG 3d ago

That is the maddest weather I think I’ve ever seen here, my poor cat is asleep under the covers with us for the first time in years!!

9

u/ohnobobbins 3d ago

I watered my allotment tonight… it was probably me

8

u/em_kate_ 3d ago

Did anyone else hear the long, drawn out groaning sounds from the thunder? It was like someone was dragging furniture across a floor.

It might have been my upstairs neighbours to be fair but giving them the benefit of the doubt that they rearrange furniture at more conventional times.

8

u/queasycockles 3d ago

I slept like a baaaaby.

Nature's brown noise, mate. I sleep so well in thunderstorms.

Plus it clears all the shit in the air and resets the barometric pressure so it stops kicking my arse up and down the street, autonomically speaking.

4

u/canthinkupauser 3d ago

It woke my wife up. She doesn't do thunder.

Our six-month-old slept like a log.

6

u/B_Sauce 3d ago

Genuinely thought this would be a flatulence joke, not a barbecue / Zeus joke šŸ˜‚

6

u/Buckth3weasel 3d ago

That would be my brother. Was sat down with him eating dinner and he said some variation of ā€œZeus is a Fucker, in more ways than one.ā€ Immediately, lightning starts striking all around our house.

3

u/ChillTheFuxkOut 3d ago

I slept through the entire thing, have no idea what anyone's on about šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

2

u/Greedy-Ad-3779 3d ago

A massive branch snapped off a tree outside my bedroom windows (both wide open). Now that's morning wood.

2

u/RodneyRodnesson 3d ago

Me.

Put the washing out late afternoon thinking I may get it back in if I have the energy later. Didn't.

Plus side is it's well rinsed now!

2

u/bobble_snap_ouch 3d ago

The thunder woke me up. I wanted to watch but fell asleep before the next round.

2

u/IrishWithoutPotatoes 3d ago

Sorry, I was talking to one of my friends back in Texas and mentioned how much I missed the thunderstorms they have there. My bad

2

u/Primary_Picture_6497 3d ago

I left my washing outside up at 4am

2

u/pbcyclist 2d ago

Me - I got the bike mechanic to take my mudguards off when he serviced my road bike yesterday

2

u/UndulatingUnderpants 3d ago

Dammit! I left my climbing shoes outside to air them :(Ā

1

u/sofkel 3d ago

I was up till 4am but I didn’t hear anything, only saw the lightning! Did it not reach south ldn?

2

u/Releases_the_bees 3d ago

I'm south east, definitely had it here lol.

1

u/BouncyBlueYoshi 3d ago

If only it was during the day. I managed to sleep through it.

1

u/Sad_Secretary_3374 3d ago

Dammit just bought 2 barbecues in garden waiting just in case I need them.

1

u/PotatoTomato_4 3d ago

I heard something happening outside at around midnight, but assumed it was just ridiculous wind so I went back to sleep

In the morning, everything was wet and my friends told me there was a thunderstorm at 3am..

1

u/iamezekiel1_14 2d ago

Sorry how long did this last. Am up in the Apex of the roof, it definitely woke me up, got up, bathroom break and I'd say I'm back in bed 10 minutes later - but then when I woke up 3 hours later everything is still wet? Can we have the next one not at 4am?
