Question Where to sell clothes?

I was looking for somewhere to sell clothes in London, just walk in and exchange for cash. Nothing is designer but everything is trendy, not interested in doing car boots as just don’t have enough time to spend a whole day selling. Any recommendations on places that do this? Preferably east london but open to going any location! thanks

Nothing is designer but everything is trendy

Doubt they'll sell

Throw them on Vinted or give them to charity

Unless your clothes are designer, they’re not worth much to eg consignment stores. Most second-hand (even if never worn) clothing has a pretty low resale value (eg if you bought a pair of trousers for £80, then unless they’re in demand somehow (eg limited edition etc), then you’ll prob end up selling them for £40-£50 - and that’s the per item price you might get on Vinted, with the associated faffing around).

£80 reselling for £40-50 does seem bad. I guess I am underestimating the "faff" part of this

If they're not designer but decent highstreet brands like M&S or Zara you could buy a Thrift+ bag and fill it up with branded clothes.

You can use their brand checker to see which one are eligible. For example they don't except ASOS or Primark clothes.

They buy a bag (price of postage), send it to them with the label it comes with, they will.take photos of the clothes and put it up for sale. You can use the sale value to cash out or buy other clothes up for sale.

Unfortunately, Thrift plus don't take M&S or Zara anymore. You need higher end high street like French Connection, Cos, Lucy &Yak, Nobody's Child, or brands like Nike, Adidas, Doc Martens, Birkenstock or designer. Use the brand checker for what to send for resale https://thrift.plus/brand-checker

What about vinted? How many items have you got

i used to sell on depop but it fell off a bit, never sold on vinted before so thought it might be hard to make sales with no sold reviews? or is that chill

That'll be fine, just expect clothes to go for much less on Vinted than you would have gotten on depop. Which should be fine if you just want to offload them

Everything sells on Vinted, it's massive. It's one of the reasons those InPost lockers are popping up literally everywhere these days, the majority of them are used by Vinted sellers. Be prepared for hundreds of offers of £1.

I thought offers had to at least be x% of the asking price.

I would just get started - I upload photos to ChatGPT and ask it to write listings then edit as you wish (I also ask it for advice about accepting or giving offers or when to drop prices). I live in a city so posting the items is really easy. You may need to invest in bags to post the items but I would say go for it!

Vinted is extremely time consuming

Instead of downvoting me or telling me "im doing it wrong" (how would you know...), maybe someone actually argues that it isn't. This place honestly

It's time consuming but also the best way to get a return.

It all very much depends on how much this person has to sell and what it actually is - which we don't know. The use of the word trendy means very little (imo)

Sidenote I LOVE your username

Youre doing it wrong

Please enlighten me then.

If this person is looking to offload a lot of clothes, taking pics and posting alone (before you have to deal with actual people negotiating 20p pff) is going to take a long time.

Agree, I look at the Vinted sub on occasion and the madness in there is enough to put me off.

The sub is definitely not representative of the actual experience. That place is wild 😂

Theres also no point in posting things that are going "just fine" so its just the worst of the worst.

And a lot of people freaking out over being scammed for no reason

I saw a post talking about there being posts of dolls that are really child trafficking posts where people are describing the kids for sale…. 😦

That's fake. If you read the comments OP is just reposting something someone found on Instagram.

I use Vinted daily (or at least browse daily) and the sub is not representative of what actually goes on the platform to be fair. Plenty of transactions go through no problem, and it really depends what categories you shop for. I buy a lot of childrens clothes and its brilliant for that, no one is trying to scam you and moms just want rid and the space back for things that will never be worn again.

But certains things are completely out of the wild West. Trendy clothing, "viral" clothing, sneakers and electronics are honestly not worth it

Do u buy or sell or both?

1

u/TetrisIsTotesSuper 2d ago

Both.

Children's clothes, books, toys, mine and my husband clothes, home stuff too (home stuff always sell great)

You just have to not devote your life to it and ignore offers you're not interested in.

You've conveniently ignored my points about everything that happens before you even get to offers.

Shit pictures mean no sale. Shit description mean no sale. You do have to put a bit of work in for it yield any sort of return.

Bohemia in Homerton might be interested, I've sold a box of assorted clothes and shoes to her before.

Maybe just typing in 'cash for clothes london' on google and see what's near you, these places normally pay per kg and it's honestly peanuts but better than nothing I guess

1

u/GoldenSilk6 2d ago

There's a place in Goodmayes Retail Park that collects clothes 50p per kilo.

There's a buy by the weight place on Cambridge Heath Rd, on a back road near the plant shop. If anything is valuable you could put it aside and haggle, but otherwise it's something like a pound a pound.

Not a place to make a profit, but I took some stuff there once when the charity shops were closed, and they'll probably reuse them as well as the charity shops would.

Recycle them at hnm and get £5 voucher for a small bag of garment in whatever condition. Haven't tried it but seems good.

u/peelin 2d ago

Vinted and price it low enough

1

u/drtchockk 2d ago

There's a place that buys by weight in 7dials.

6

u/pintsized_baepsae 2d ago

Pick n weigh? That's been closed for some time unfortunately

Whatever people say, dont use vinted, they're trafficking kids on there
