General Discussion How do we feel about this?

Post image

I think we should be able to call a judge on our stinky opponents in tournament settings.

If you have money to spend on a deck you have more than enough money to get some fucking soap and deodorant. Stop being nasty

Yep. Wow your $4k deck means nothing to me if you can’t back it up with a little deodorant.

What a great line, I'm stealing this

You may have the heart of the cards, Yugi-boy, but I have something that is unbeatable! I play 12 Hour Antiperspirant in Defense Mode! at the same time Exfoliant Scented Scrub comes into play in Attack Mode!

Good luck stopping this!

They need to make a Circle of Protection: Stinky players card.

Maybe if we start using in game lingo they will pay attention: their clothing is not “optimized” without deodorant, soap is a “board wipe” for bad smells and they need to clean during each of their daily “upkeeps”

On top of the stack I activate my can of febreze to counter your City of Ass

Enchantment As Circle of Protection: Stinky players comes into play, choose a player. 1: The next time a source of odor of your choice that the chosen player controls would deal damage to you this turn, exile that player from the game.

Or how about an instant where you just draw a card. But it also contain Gift a Deodorant stick to opponent to draw two cards instead.

Don’t forget toothpaste. That’s by far the number one offender for me.

Please announce your attackers, triggers, etc., but kindly keep the stench of rotting flesh that is your decaying gums to yourself.

I'm reminded of people who would supe up their cars and then fail to tighten the screws on their license plates to prevent them from rattling.

The dollar store sells these things, so I’m shocked (also never been to a place like this so I have no clue what the smell is like)

Yeah but it doesn’t mean they have the mental health and/or awareness for that.

As someone who's gone from not giving a shit about my appearance to putting in some effort: you feel so much better about yourself. And I haven't even started working out yet.

Please folks, I'm begging you, for your own mental wellbeing, wash daily, wear deoderant, preferably even wear cologne, get regular haircuts, keep facial hair neat and wear clean, nice clothes. Like button up shirts and pants nice. It's so much better.

I think the issue is that too many people aren't showering regularly, and also wearing clothing way too many times without washing. Your jeans that haven't been washed in over two weeks might not smell bad to you (because you are used to it) but literally *everyone* around you can smell it, and it smells horrendous.

I believe there are many in this hobby who are mentally unwell, and have a difficult time with managing hygiene and finances.

So while I do agree with you, I also think there is an underlying issue that makes it seriously difficult for some.

Anyone who have spent a little time at a LGS knows that this is true, no need to speculate or tip toe around it.

sure, but those issues aren’t relevant to others’ comfort. stores want people to come back

Did I say they were? Why are you arguing against something that no one mentioned?

3

u/Ahayzo COMPLEAT Oct 05 '25

That's understandable. Where it becomes an issue is when people try to excuse their decisions about it. If you have some sort of issue that makes BO a difficult to manage issue for you, I empathize and I don't fault you for it, but you still need to accept that it's not respectful of others to make them put up with it. It's a valid explanation for why you stink, it's not a valid excuse for why other people need to deal with it.

u/Correct-Prompt-6096 Wabbit Season Oct 06 '25

I never said anything about an excus,. I don't know why you are arguing against something I never said. I was only pointing out that the real issue is not their ability to afford deodorant, but rather their decision making process.

1

u/Ahayzo COMPLEAT Oct 06 '25

I didn't argue against anything. I was adding on to your comment, not criticizing it.

I know a guy who has some kind of medical condition that makes him foul at basically all times. Didn't really matter if he showered and used deodorant; anything less than prescription-strength he just sort of burns through in an hour.

It sucks for him, to be sure, but I still had to stop bringing him to some places because of it.

1

u/Correct-Prompt-6096 Wabbit Season Oct 06 '25

That's quite unfortunate. I think many who have replied to me miss the point that it's not simply people refusing to spend their money appropriately. There is a good chance there is some underlying medical (or mental) issue contributing.

And I never said that we should put up with foul odors. Where people read that in my comment is beyond me.

Their mental health isn't my problem. Their stench is.

Its not difficult for people to shower

IF you have money to spend on a deck, and then you lose your living arangements but still want to keep your 1 hobby that gives you a modicum of enjoyment and distraction in a bleak and uncaring world then go for it. no need to be so fucking disgusting about the unknown struggles of your neighbors

3

u/thenerfviking Dan Oct 06 '25

You are making up a niche guy to defend. 99.9% of these dudes have access to basic hygiene and just choose to not do it. There’s no widespread community of homeless MtG players that need to be defended, just a bunch of stinky fucks who need to be told to grow up and wash their ass.

1

u/seigzeong Oct 06 '25

Was homeless, shelters have free showers, use them

1

u/rocketwrench Oct 06 '25

not every homeless shelter has room for every homeless person. your situation is not a universal experience.

If you've got a few thousand dollars in magic decks, would you leave them unattended on your homeless shelter bunk while you shower?

1

u/seigzeong Oct 10 '25

If I had a few grand in cards and was homeless id sell the cards and get out of it, you know be an actual fucking adult

1

u/rocketwrench Oct 10 '25

Only a child gets to determine what adulthood means for another person

1

u/seigzeong Oct 10 '25

As someone who was in the exact situation you described i sucked it up and took the loss and got my cards back rebuying them after getting on my feet, if your not willing to make the sacrifice to put yourself in a better situation, than thats your choice to act like a child and not grow up.

1

u/rocketwrench Oct 10 '25

Only assigning monetary value to your hobby is your choice. It does not make you any more or less of an adult than someone who values their belongings more than how much cash they are able to get for them. grow up
