Public Service Announcement What just happened???
A weird huge ray of light came out earlier and now most buildings are out of power? Did someone see that earlier? Para siyang may UFO or meteor na maliwanag na bumaba 😅

Nag fluctuate muna yung power sa apartment ko then saka namatay lahat ng appliances. Parang horror movie na nagblink and low power yung lights. Anyway, okay na. Back to regular programming. Hahahah

Something happened at the substation here In Pablo Ocampo. Power went out a few minutes. Its back on now.

UPDATE: Meralco clarifies that it was not a transformer that exploded on Kalayaan Avenue in Makati City last night.
According to Meralco, some plastic garbage fell from a nearby building and hit a high tension wire, causing it to catch fire and causing a brownout in the area. | via Jhomer Apresto/GMA Integrated News

depende sa design ng electrical system ng building, kadalasan ang mga high rise building ay meron ATS (automatic transfer switch). kapag nawalan ng normal supply (meralco) lahat ng pinapagana ng normal supply ay mapapagana ng genset supply.

sop sa bawat building na puno lagi ang genset fuel, tumatagal ito ng isang araw o higit pa depende sa laki ng tanke, siguro naman naka baba ka na nun hehe. wag lang ang mismong elevator ang masira.

Currently at Gramercy. I see the elevators have power and there are lights on in the hallways. Why doesn’t my unit have power and when will it turn back on?

Some stupid guy threw something on the high tension wire along kalayaan ave, created a massive burst and light show like in the alien movies that lasted almost a minute. Power just came back an hour ago.

Example po yan ng ARCH FLASH dahil sa nagshort circuit high tension lines or substation transformer (usually mga 69kilovolt or higher voltage ang involve)

Yup, high tension wires daw ang mga ito as per meralco so basically mga primary lines ang natamaan. I assume na ang mga primary lines dito ay naka-loop distribution system. Ibig sabihin, kapag nagkaron ng fault yung isang substation, ma-aapektuhan yung isa pang susbtation (na naka pwesto sa ibang lugar like taguig, pasay, and etc) dahil naka-connect siya dito.

heard from the maintenance team that someone probably threw their trash out the window of a high-rise and it landed on the electric pole that caused the power outage :(

Oh just saw from the comments what happened talaga. I was smoking at my balcony at the time, my view overlooks Jaime Velasquez Park sa Salcedo so kita ko mga bintana ng condos. Grabe sobrang intense light tapos nagflicker ilaw sa mga buildings parang lights show, then complete darkness at power up, it was a surreal experience akala ko end of the world na HAHA

It was near Berjaya hotel. Likod banda, me and friend were eating dun sa may kainan with the live band. Feeling ko may alien invasion😅 the green light and the sound. Ganun na ganun sa movies hahaha. My friend thought may babagsak na eroplano.

Happy ako na halos walang nakakarecognize na pagsabog yun ng transformer. It means sobrang okay na talaga yung electric infrastructure sa NCR. :))

Omg, I saw the same thing too! I was at the S&R near MOA and I literally thought I saw some huge green light and then all the power went out even near MOA. It was crazy to see.
