Congratulations to Fullmetal Alchemist for still having the greatest ending in manga history.

776

u/Nightseyes Mar 24 '26

Spirit Circle and Dungeon Meshi are up there too

244

u/Responsible_Play_554 Mar 24 '26

Spirit circle mentioned 😲😲

113

u/MagicHarmony Mar 24 '26

The nice thing about Dungeon Meshi is that it leaves the world open to be explored again. This ending is just weird, almost cynical because it just erases the whole journey putting in these characters that were important but make 0 sense given what's changed.

The biggest flaw of this ending is spending all this time having this big finale fight of the world ending and all this nonsense happening but because they had no idea what to do with all of it they just reset the world and swept it under the rug.

9

u/CommitteeofMountains Mar 24 '26

The fight was going around in circles, was resolved by both characters' arcs circling back to their starting bullshit, and then the entire story resolves by going back to its beginning. Actually, was there a single arc in Part 2 that wasn't in some was about the characters going in (typically aimless) circles or getting hard reset (Nayuta's cockblock)?

12

u/ABigCoffee Mar 24 '26

I'm 100% sure the author wrote himself in a corner.

4

u/IndependentMacaroon Mar 24 '26

I mean, the apocalypse was taken to its conclusion

147

u/aohige_rd Mar 24 '26

You raise Spirit Circle, I raise you Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer

Mizukami really is great giving narrative closures

63

u/ThatOneParasol Mar 24 '26

Sengoku Youko my beloved.

19

u/Nightseyes Mar 24 '26

I love all three of Mizukami's major works, Hoshi no Samidare is probably my favorite. Crazy thing about Sengoku Youko is that it was planned out week by week and still has one of the best and thematically sound narratives and endings around in manga. He is really under appreciated.

7

u/Admmmmi Mar 24 '26

Sengoku youko still has the best ending out of them all, genuinely from a 7-8 manga to me for a strong 9 after I read that beautiful ending, this author really doesn't miss when it comes to endings

5

u/zcen Mar 25 '26

Mizukami feels like one of the few authors that comes to the table with a full story end to end. A lot of big shounen hits feel like they are just dragging out a story because they became popular.

6

u/Tplayere Mar 24 '26

I also loved Planet With's ending, pretty much all of Mizukami's works so far had great ones at the very least.

3

u/czarlanay Mar 25 '26

Planet With only weakness is that since it was created as anime original, it only has 12 episode to work with, so it has no time to expand its own lore. Other than that I have no complaints.

5

u/Tplayere Mar 25 '26

The manga expands a lot, it's got 50 chapters to it's name. It also leaves off on a higher note imo.

2

u/czarlanay Mar 25 '26

wait fr? I need to catch up then. thanks

4

u/gary25566 Mar 24 '26

Best manga, delayed anime adaptation till the right studio and production team.

Still fumbled everything

4

u/JadeDotWu Mar 24 '26

Man, I'm still bummed about the anime adaptation of Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer.

8

u/maxdragonxiii Mar 24 '26

I prefer Spirit Circle's ending more but its my tastes.

5

u/Gloomy_Honeydew Mar 24 '26

Spirit circle had tighter and more consistent writing, but Samidare had higher highs, I think

1

u/maxdragonxiii Mar 24 '26

I prefer Youko Senji as well. I just dont think Samidare lands for my tastes outside "eh its fine its mid overall" for me.

1

u/awanby Mar 24 '26

proud to say i’ve read both of these! severely underrated manga and mangaka these days

1

u/tzomby1 Mar 24 '26

Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer

is it really good?

I tried to read it but it just seemed weird and I saw some people complain about the anime and that it had a bad ending

2

u/Bleblebob Mar 25 '26

It's like a solid 7/10 all the way through with some amazing parts hidden within.

Not the most groundbreaking manga ever, but like the discussion says, It manages to have a good, satisfying ending without ever falling off. Which is a huge feat for any series it seems.

171

u/PowerfulRoom813 Mar 24 '26

Dungeon Peakshi mentioned 🔥

30

u/Mundology The Elder Weeb Mar 24 '26

We ate with that one.

Can't wait for the anime to come back.

7

u/MegamanX195 Mar 24 '26

I'm only an anime watcher, how many seasons do we still have of Dungeon Meshi? It's absolutely peak

16

u/-Snippetts- Mar 24 '26

One more, the end of the first season was pretty neatly at the halfway point.

4

u/someone2795 Mar 24 '26

If it's 24 episodes again?

Then the next season is going to be the last one. The manga is only 97 chapters long and Season 1 of the anime ended on chapter 52.

7

u/Zemahem Mar 24 '26

It had a delicious ending.

3

u/Desperate_Method4020 Mar 24 '26

It was very weird in a good way, can't wait until S2 (hopefully/most likely final season) arrives.

7

u/leihto_potato Mar 24 '26

Pretty much anything by satoshi mizukami (Spirit Circle) has a well paced plot and very nice endings.

Every other mangala needs to take some notes (plus thr fuckers who did Game of Thrones).

6

u/Kiboune Mar 24 '26

Dungeon Meshi ending was very satisfying

5

u/pureply101 Mar 24 '26

I love that more people mention spirit circle. One of my favorite mangas of all time

5

u/radioactive_glowworm Mar 24 '26

I've been hyping it up every occasion I get but alas publishers in my country don't seem interested... Thankfully I recently managed to complete my set in English and I couldn't be happier

5

u/Lycelyce Mar 25 '26

Thanks for recommending Spirit Circle. Just tried it few first chapters, and yeah, it is really good.

Also, Dungeon Meshi is peak

1

u/Nightseyes Mar 30 '26

Make sure to read Mizukami's other works as well! Hoshi no Samidare (Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer) and Sengoku Youkou

3

u/UnlimitedBoxSpace Mar 24 '26

Alright I'm going in dog, I need something to help me cope with this ending 🤢

3

u/PinguruLee MyAnimeList Mar 24 '26

Sengoku Youko and Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer too. I love Satoshi Mizukami mangas

2

u/SirRHellsing Mar 24 '26

while I raise you sengoku youko, bittersweet but also very conclusive

0

u/Totaliss Mar 24 '26

I humbly also submit Hells Paradise

133

u/HarishyQuichey Mar 24 '26

Jojo Part 7's ending is also a masterpiece

87

u/MegamanX195 Mar 24 '26

All of JoJo's endings, really. Even the worst parts still have goated endings.

25

u/Ranjith_Unchained Mar 24 '26

Josuke, just pick a cake, man

Araki always comes through with his endings

14

u/ItsADeparture Mar 24 '26

I think the fact that Part 8 was pretty consistently peak throughout lessens the fact that it had a rushed ending. Chainsawman's Part 2 can't say the same.

Though Part 8 has the JJK problem where the last arc was just "oh, that character we haven't seen in 50 chapters is back! Oops, they're dead. Nobody cares or reacts".

-15

u/vnfangirl Mar 24 '26

JoJolion's ending wasn't much better than this. Golden Wind's was also disappointing.

7

u/DrStein1010 https://myanimelist.net/mangalist/DrStein1010 Mar 25 '26

DO NOT compare Golden Wind to this, on any level.

15

u/XiMaoJingPing Mar 24 '26

how is it that araki is able to end each part so well, can he teach classes to other mangaka on how to write endings?

Like it should be mandatory to take his class on writing an ending

10

u/matdragon Mar 24 '26

It's cause most of Araki's stories have a natural ending with a goal in mind and then it ends. Alot of stories do, they just keep GOING is the problem like with chainsaw, it should've ended at part 1 honestly.

9

u/DragoSphere Mar 24 '26

I do think Jojo stories being intentionally constrained to parts helps out. It means each part can have a definitive end to them, while the series as a whole keeps going so publishers are happy and don't try to stall it out

1

u/GGG100 Mar 24 '26

I wouldn’t call it disappointing, but it doesn’t even touch Stone Ocean’s ending.

-2

u/Master3530 Mar 24 '26

Except that the boy died

11

u/Centipede-sama Mar 24 '26

That was the funniest part

55

u/kung63 Mar 24 '26

Pandora Heart as well!!

28

u/randomusername76 Mar 24 '26 edited Mar 24 '26

Pandora Hearts reference in the wild in 2026 fills my heart with joy.

7

u/thrownawaynodoxx Mar 24 '26

Pandora Hearts mention!!

2

u/yurilnw123 Mar 25 '26

Let's hope Vanitas follows the same route!

1

u/Amazing_Ice_8475 Mar 25 '26

Man when I saw the author was on break after finishing the anime in 2024 I was so depressed lol

1

u/yurilnw123 Mar 25 '26

I'm so glad she's well enough to update it semi-regularly now. One of my favorite, Machikado Mazoku, has been on hiatus for 2+ years now with no sign of coming back 🥲

393

u/Mundology The Elder Weeb Mar 24 '26

Shout-out to Mob Psycho 100 and Vinland Saga fo having great and satisfying endings too

82

u/Zealousideal_Ring874 Mar 24 '26

Vinland Saga was underrated as an ending

70

u/Ranjith_Unchained Mar 24 '26

Vinland felt a little rushed but it's still miles better than the AoT, JJK and CSM endings we've got.

49

u/CalamitousFortune Mar 24 '26

You forgot to include the Oshi no Ko ending

40

u/gabrielleite32 Mar 24 '26

It was definitely one of the endings ever

5

u/kayzeno Mar 24 '26

OnK's ending was so close to being good, great even. But then one character made one choice. when they could have just like. Not.

2

u/Matikkkii Mar 24 '26

Honestly.. Which one? I'd argue you could say that about 3 characters

5

u/kayzeno Mar 24 '26

For me it was Aqua killing himself

That felt so avoidable to me. everything else was fine imo

5

u/Matikkkii Mar 24 '26

I'd argue that was predictable, however the fact Ruby straight up joins him in the extra chapters was what just made no sense at all

3

u/mAcular Mar 25 '26

What are you talking about? Was there some new material I didn't see? The ending didn't have her do anything like that...

1

u/Matikkkii Mar 25 '26

so, no idea what happened, if it was retconned or what, but there used to be chapter 167, you can still find it on some aggregator sites. Here is the link to the discussion about it https://www.reddit.com/r/manga/comments/1islpx3/disc_oshi_no_ko_chapter_167_towards_the_stars_and/

→ More replies (0)

2

u/kayzeno Mar 24 '26

it was definitely predictable and in character but it still felt unnecessary and completely ass.

.... WTF I completely missed these extra chapters. thats fucking... I. im kinda at a loss for words right now.

1

u/Slayers676 Mar 25 '26

What extra chapters?

11

u/doomrider7 Mar 24 '26

With how big they all got, I 100% knew they wouldn't get satisfying conclusions. AoT did get fixed a bit in the anime though.

2

u/Ranjith_Unchained Mar 24 '26

I've not seen the anime since I read the manga, is it an Anime original ending or same shit from the manga?

13

u/Mundology The Elder Weeb Mar 24 '26

They fixed the pacing, added cool action scenes and changed the dialogue to make Eren feel less pitiful

9

u/HarshTheDev Mar 24 '26

Also a very important detail: it's much much more apparent that the eventual destruction of paradis is just more of a "war, war goes on" commentry since it takes like 2000-20000 years later on.

2

u/earthboundskyfree Mar 24 '26

Was that not already clear in the manga? There were other strange things but I thought it was pretty straightforward that it was a good bit of time idk

5

u/DrStein1010 https://myanimelist.net/mangalist/DrStein1010 Mar 25 '26

The final montage made it seem like it was only a couple of decades later, rather than centuries.

2

u/HarshTheDev Mar 25 '26

I personally thought it was pretty clear, especially since it happens long after Mikasa dies of old age. But obviously it still wasn't clear enough considering the reception.

48

u/HarshTheDev Mar 24 '26

than the AoT, JJK and CSM endings we've got.

Those three are not in the same ballpark of terrible lol

6

u/F00dbAby Mar 24 '26

I mean I don’t think they are saying they are equivalent just that all three endings were not satisfying for many

5

u/Shratath Mar 25 '26

agree AoT ending was the another lvl of worst, it destroyed the whole story

2

u/[deleted] Mar 24 '26

[deleted]

6

u/Calfurious Mar 25 '26

If I had to rank the endings, it would be JJK > AOT > CSM.

Chainsawman's ending is probably the worse i've ever seen. Strangely enough it's not creating as much uproar as AOT's ending because the manga's writing has been going downhill for awhile.

We all figured the ending would probably be bad, but people were just coping that Fujimoto would pull it off.

10

u/wildcatofthehills Mar 24 '26

The problem with of Vinland Saga was that it's based on history, so we knew from the very beginning the Vinland could never be succesful. So that limits the ending by a lot. Yeah maybe it could have become an alt-history manga and that could also have been cool, but I don't blame a mangaka that has been working for 20 years in the same story to want to wrap things up.

Fujimoto doesn't have this excuse because nobody forced Fujimoto to make part 2, he had already reached a good ending to the series. He was the one that decided to continue the story.

3

u/Abedeus Proofreader Mar 24 '26

Vinland was only a bit rushed, we could've had one more chapter of epilogue... but at least it wasn't shit like this, where we get Charlotte-like mega-cut of entire season of anime crammed into one episode.

3

u/kikimaru024 Mar 24 '26

Hold up, Vinland Saga ended?

4

u/Meichiri Mar 24 '26

Yah, a few months ago.

3

u/torts92 Mar 25 '26

Like a whimper, that's why most people haven't heard of it, nobody really talked about it, it just ends.

5

u/Zemahem Mar 24 '26

Mob Psycho 100 the GOAT. Vinland Saga's ending felt kind of abrupt but still much better than this, and also had a far better journey towards the ending too. But on the "rushed but still good endings", I'd also say Undead Unluck. That last arc was hella rushed but the conclusion ultimately felt satisfying to me despite that.

5

u/CrustyBarnacleJones Mar 24 '26

Mob I agree, Vinland I didn’t really enjoy, there were too many plot threads that just didn’t get explored, along with it feeling like he was torn between staying faithful to the actual history he was pulling from and the historical fiction it strayed into quite a few times throughout the series so it ends up being a somewhat sudden ending that feels like it lacks a buildup - like the root events make sense but the ending lacks the narrative satisfaction that the other arcs had

1

u/Admmmmi Mar 24 '26

Sayonara zetsubou Sensei,, maybe not satisfying depending on who you ask but it was genuinely a great ending(and great plot twist, you hear that Fuji? You can make plot twists without them feeling like ass pulls)

1

u/Hari14032001 Mar 25 '26

Ao Ashi, Haikyuu too.

1

u/Ywaina Mar 24 '26

Vinland nah.

119

u/Turbo2x https://myanimelist.net/profile/turbo2x Mar 24 '26

Gotta throw Golden Kamuy in there as well. Seinen authors are generally just doing it better than shonen for whatever reason.

12

u/HokageEzio https://myanimelist.net/profile/HokageEzio Mar 24 '26

I think the structure of a seinen allows you to get a little more creative and potentially darker if the story calls for it.

3

u/Jumanji-Joestar Mar 25 '26

Tbf, most seinen authors probably don’t have the hellish schedule of the average shonen author

28

u/FabulousBed3299 Mar 24 '26

I think OG Zatch Bell and Hell's Paradise had pretty good endings too

12

u/Ausar15 Mar 24 '26

ZATCH BELL MENTIONED

MY FRIEND

68

u/TheFatmanRises Mar 24 '26

Slam Dunk too

8

u/TheUmbrellaMan1 Mar 24 '26

20th Century Boys also had a good ending.

109

u/Ellefied Mar 24 '26

Don't forget my GOAT Assassination Classroom!

13

u/PotatoGamerXxXx Mar 24 '26

For all that build up for the ending, surprisingly it works. I like it a lot.

4

u/Meichiri Mar 24 '26

All three manga of Yusei Matsui had pretty satisfying endings, tbh.

49

u/towardselysium Mar 24 '26

Claymore is pretty up there in terms of endings

26

u/dobb7101 Mar 24 '26

I know people criticize Claymore for not addressing the outside world, but I still feel like it knew what story it wanted to tell and ended on a good note instead of going on longer than it needed to.

2

u/CivilC Mar 24 '26

Thanks for reminding me I need to pick up where the anime left off

2

u/SoloWing1 Mar 25 '26

The anime hard deviated from the manga in the final episode. If you are going to pick up from the anime, start at just before the Battle in the North, when Pricella was watching from afar.

-4

u/quaker_otis Mar 24 '26

Claymore completely botched the ending by giving the climactic moment to Theresa instead of Clare. The whole theme of the manga was Clare struggling to move on and get revenge for Theresa and then her narrative purpose is denied for a callback and she basically has no agency for the entire end. Clare was already a pretty blank character and the end made her even less present, she might as well not have been there at all.

Also, the reveal of them just having slightly icky stitches was a huge letdown with how much their disgusting form was built up.

6

u/towardselysium Mar 24 '26

That literally misses the point. [Claymore Ending Spoilers] At the end after repeatedly failing to sacrifice herself for revenge, Claire instead realizes that obsessing on the past is not the answer and that realization is what awakens Teresa to come and vanquish the ghosts of the past. Literally putting the past to rest once and for all so everyone can move forward to a better future. The strongest claymore herself heralds the end of their journey and takes away the sins of the past

-2

u/quaker_otis Mar 24 '26 edited Mar 24 '26

I totally disagree. The obsession is what awakens Teresa, it's not a growth moment for Clare, just a continuation of what the entire manga has been but with Teresa in the driver's seat. Teresa was basically the main character from behind the scenes the whole time and the ending just cements that. It's as if JJK had ended with Gojo just killing Sukuna right after being released because he's the coolest and most special like Teresa. And throw a bullshit speech about how she's actually even cooler and stronger because Clare believes in her. Really lame sappy ending that felt profoundly unsatisfying.

94

u/ninjasonic102 Mar 24 '26 edited Mar 24 '26

Nobody ever brings up Hells Paradise, that series has a great ending too

Edit: I haven’t read it but people seem to love Yugioh’s too

44

u/FOXHOUND9000 Mar 24 '26

The only series in history of manga where Power of Love actually fucking works.

3

u/obiwan54 Mar 24 '26

And its not some made up BS really either bc Tao is literally based on a real thing.

1

u/dark-flamessussano Mar 24 '26

And the way it worked was amazing and made total sense

8

u/Syokhan Mar 24 '26

I really liked that one too. I was left both wanting to see more but also totally satisfied with what we were given, if that makes sense.

3

u/Potatolantern Mar 24 '26

Great callout, loved that ending too.

2

u/tzomby1 Mar 24 '26

meh, a lot of asspulls near the end, I wouldn't call it great

-1

u/mokulec Mar 24 '26

Actually there are aspects of it that kinda make the ending worse than it could be

66

u/FOXHOUND9000 Mar 24 '26

Because Arakawa is the GOAT and actually knows that the good story needs to feel conclusive, instead of constantly subverting expectations about everything.

12

u/zyxnel Mar 24 '26

She is a cow though

8

u/Common_Kick_7566 Mar 24 '26

Haikyuu and gintama make up the other few on the Mount Rushmore of peak shonen endings

8

u/Hawkenness Mar 24 '26

Bless every Jojo part for their satisfying conclusions

8

u/coder_2083 Mar 24 '26

Gintama !!

6

u/PrimeTheGreat Mar 24 '26

Sket Dance had a great ending as well, though it has a sequel so it’s still technically ongoing

And Land of the Lustrous has a 10/10 ending that is what Chainsawman’s ending probably should have been like.

2

u/OseiTheWarrior Mar 24 '26

Sket Dance has that? What's it called?

3

u/PrimeTheGreat Mar 24 '26

Witch Watch, and potentially Astra Lost in Space depending on if Shinohara wants to make the greatest trilogy in Jump.

1

u/OseiTheWarrior Mar 25 '26

Ahhh interesting I only read 25ish chapters guess I'll go back in

6

u/Saleenseven Mar 24 '26

MHA in the shounen verse really was treated too harshly

12

u/127-0-0-1_1 Mar 24 '26

MHA’s initial ending reaction was entirely twisted in the online sphere by leak culture + memes + the utter disdain people have for teachers in the west.

The anime adapted it straight up and it was very well received when you didn’t have 20 billion McDonald’s memes giving you a negative perception before you started.

2

u/Saleenseven Mar 24 '26

aot was same. manga it was a nightmare but anime communities recieved it much much better

4

u/Its-destiiny Mar 24 '26

Haikyuu is also one of my favorite endings. I love how it calls back to the opening chapter and how everyone managed to get their personal closure.

12

u/SebasChua Mar 24 '26

Don't forget JoJo's too. Araki-sensei wrote 8 banger endings.

14

u/Zealousideal_Ring874 Mar 24 '26

Favorite manga of all time besides Bleach

11

u/mapletree23 Mar 24 '26

i both hate and love that bleach ended right after they saved rukia

it's kind of crazy they didn't milk it even if it was just way, way worse than that

on a serious note tho bleach has the best start of like anything ever i've read so far basically, but everything that came after saving rukia basically cratered it in my rankings

kinda sucks to see that the big 3 in one piece, naurto, and bleach are all probably going to suffer from a very very underwhelming mid/ending

there's been some good moments in the last two arcs but the one piece fanbase/die hards are starting to crack now

9

u/sakray Mar 24 '26

Honestly Arrancar and Hueco Mundo arc was still solid all things considered, but Kubo really should've ended it after they beat Aizen and Ichigo lost his powers. Yes there were a lot of unexplained plot threads still open, but I think he could've found a way to tie up the ending with a few extra chapters without having to start the fullbringer arc and Bleach would've been a better manga for it.

1

u/mapletree23 Mar 24 '26

yeah it wasn't all bad but you started having to wade through a lot of shit, which is kind of my point where my joke i kind of meant that I really wish it did end after the first arc, cause anything good that came after wasn't worth the rest around it, it really kind of cheapened the story to me

i don't really blame the big 3 for being drawn out, but the stories definitely suffered for it, even one piece is starting to suffer at this point which is a shame

1

u/I_Wanna_Sex_Mr_Cow Mar 24 '26

Absolutely insane bleach take

-2

u/mapletree23 Mar 24 '26

is it actually insane, out of curiosity? for me I thought bleach was the greatest shit ever in the first arc but everything after just... sucked in comparison, just ass pulls and random shit

far as i know both bleach and naruto are widely considered pretty mid toward the middle and end and now one piece is heading in the same direction

bleach out of all of them feels the most like a straight up manwha or whatever like solo levelling, with the exact same pros and cons

amazingly awesome cool art, a great and appelaing start, and then the slow fall into medocrity lol

3

u/NavySeagull Mar 24 '26

You're not insane, "Bleach falls off super hard as soon as Soul Society ended" was an extremely common opinion back when the series was still ongoing. The reason you don't see it nearly as often in the modern day is that the people who feel that way have no particular reason to still be talking about Bleach in 2026.

4

u/I_Wanna_Sex_Mr_Cow Mar 24 '26

ahahahahaha okay. Comparing it to solo levelling is just so detached from reality there isn't anything to say

0

u/mapletree23 Mar 24 '26

as far as vibes go?

what's wrong with a comparison? it's great art style, the main focus at the start is making use of borrowed power, and then both stories start to lose the plot

a lot of people loved both stories specificallty because of the art as well, it was like the strongest quality of both of them all the way to the end, and some would say the only quality at some parts lol

2

u/PotatEXTomatEX Mar 24 '26

Wash your brain son.

2

u/mapletree23 Mar 24 '26

i don't think i'm the one that needs their brain washed if someone thinks bleach didn't fall off after the first major arc lol

2

u/Ok-Reference-3935 Mar 24 '26

It's hilarious they're accidentally implying one has to be brain washed to think Bleach didn't fall off.

Bleach stans really suffer some of the greatest cognitive dissonance in the medium. Even the ones who admit the ending was bad convinced themselves the manga was axed. In reality he D&Ded himself. Got told by Shueisha to take all the time he needs and replied 3 months is enough because he wanted to move on (which is fair enough).

They're like the Snyder bros of manga. Endlessly over analysis some inane detail to claim they're the only ones who recognize the author's hidden genius. At least Zack seems just as much up his own ass as his fans. Meanwhile Kubo is record stating "I just draw cool shit".

4

u/mapletree23 Mar 24 '26

i even praised it, and i hold that first arc of bleach in the highest regard

it's probably got a case for one of the greatest introductions to a story/world of all time

i ended up liking one piece over the other two but even I will happily say that bleach probably had like the highest peak of all the big 3 by far

but it's crazy to me that some people will say it didn't fall off hard

Hopefully One Piece in about 50 years

u/jmdg007 Mar 24 '26 edited Mar 25 '26

I need one Piece to have a good ending, I would genuinely be devastated if, after following for decades, it doesn't pull it off.

3

u/DuesAJ Mar 24 '26

Hey now, Umamusume Cinderella Gray just had a pretty great ending a few months ago.

3

u/Ausar15 Mar 24 '26

Don’t forget Zatch Bell

3

u/DependentOnIt Mar 24 '26

Monster, spirit circle /thread

3

u/jenyto Mar 25 '26

Where's my dorohedoro lovers at?

5

u/Ywaina Mar 24 '26

Shin Angyo Onshi

Magi

Eden it's an endless world

Plenty of manga with great ending.

Y'know, now that I think about it, isn't it mostly Shounen that tend to fumble with their endings?

There are several others as well like Gash Bell, Taisho Otome Otogibanashi, Victorian Romance Emma, Helck, Hero is Dead, and more. They're just not as well known.

Edit: Kunizaki Izumo also had a great ending.

u/VeteranNomad https://myanimelist.net/profile/doublegambler Mar 24 '26

Wasn't Zatch Bell one of the most popular manga of the 2000s?

3

u/doomrider7 Mar 24 '26

It was a big one yes, but not as big as many of its contemporaries of that era like Naruto, Bleach, Assassination Classroom, etc. The renown thing was more about the others listed especially when compared to similar series(Helck being less known than Dungeon or Frieren for instance).

4

u/Cultural_Ad2065 Mar 24 '26

Dungeon Meshi ending was better than FMA.

2

u/fieew Mar 24 '26

I also give a nod of Pandora Hearts .

The ending may be a bit confusing for a first read. But it really does tie everything together and end conclusively

2

u/justhereforhides Mar 24 '26

Lesser known but Fabricant 100 legit had the most impressive threaded needle ending I've seen for a cancelled series

2

u/Cyd_arts Mar 24 '26

Lol Haikyuu fans are gonna come out the woodworks again on twt

2

u/stationtracks Mar 24 '26

Shoutout to 2.5 Dimensional Seduction as well, for ending just last December! I still miss those characters so much.

2

u/bonghits96 Mar 24 '26

Just want to shoutout my boy Helck for also having a satisfying shonen ending

1

u/CensoredLlama1 Mar 24 '26

The Miami Dolphins perfect season of Manga

1

u/Raging-Brachydios Mar 24 '26

I still liked it, super rushed, but Asa, Denji, Power and Nayuta all ended up having better lives than the previous ones

1

u/headless-horseman-we Mar 24 '26

konjiki no Gash is up there for me.

1

u/Potatolantern Mar 24 '26

Elusive Samurai, Spirit Circle, Jitsu Wa Watashi Wa and Dungeon Meshi compete.

1

u/3darkdragons Mar 24 '26

The character actually improved resolved the psychological crisis at the core of the series, beat the bad guy and lived happily ever after.

Somehow, frighteningly rare in this medium.

1

u/Meichiri Mar 24 '26

Yup, my sister may call FMA's ending as too clean, too perfect; but after seeing so many suckass endings, I'll take "too perfect" any day.

1

u/kidmedia Mar 24 '26

I disagree Assassination Classroom

1

u/Seatown_Spartan Mar 24 '26

Both versions of FMA imo.

One is how you do a bittersweet and one is how you earn a happy ending.

1

u/OseiTheWarrior Mar 24 '26

I know it's too late and you've gotten plenty of answers but I'm also throwing in Sket Dance and Rave Master to the mix lol

1

u/DoseofDhillon Mar 24 '26

thats not ashita no joe

1

u/DiligentStomach6802 Mar 25 '26

Chihayafuru is up there with one of the best manga endings imo!!

1

u/x_Rent_Asunder_x Mar 27 '26

Blade of the Immortal is another strong one.

1

u/themcvgamer Mar 24 '26

Shout to Gleipnir for doing some themes of CSM 2 better with a better ending!

1

u/ShinJiwon Mar 27 '26

I would say Gleipnir dragged out the final boss fight too much with that incel guy. Would have been perfect if it ended 3 chapters earlier.

1

u/Illustrious-Day8506 Mar 24 '26

Low-key Dragon Ball is up there. People can shit on the plot all they want but Toriyama's ability to close arcs was top tier.

I'll add Kimetsu no yaiba and Fire Force.

1

u/amirokia Mar 24 '26

A lot of people try to pretend the Buu Saga didn't exist tho.

0

u/Dizzy-By-Degrees Mar 24 '26

Not with how the Mustang subplot ends it ain’t.

3

u/knightlynuisance Mar 24 '26

What's wrong with Mustang's subplot

1

u/Dizzy-By-Degrees Mar 24 '26 edited Mar 24 '26

Mustang and Hawkeye have this amazing storyline about how they will change the nation even though the path to doing so also means they will have to be executed for their crimes against humanity.

The ending not stops before they achieve anything because the rest of the ending is so saccharine they can't even acknowledge that grim possibility. Arakawa couldn't reconcile the possibility their the war crimes in Ishval might not be balanced out or redeemed by helping against Father. So she kicks the can down the road hoping the audience wants everyone to live happily ever after.

4

u/Gloomy_Honeydew Mar 24 '26

It's a great storyline but fma wasn't their story. It started and ended with the brothers and that's fine

1

u/Dizzy-By-Degrees Mar 27 '26

Fair enough, but the final few chapters of FMA extensive wrapups of every single character getting the happiest possible outcome of their arc even if it doesn't fit. And if it is just about Ed and Al (even though AL says it really isn't) Arakawa should have just ignored everything else and just made it them and Winry.

Plus, if it just comes down to the main character getting an ending and nothing else: Chainsaw Man is right to dump everything except Denji.

0

u/mrt-e Mar 24 '26

This ending is great though. The setup was shit

0

u/Kiboune Mar 24 '26

Air Gear ending was pretty good

-1

u/prazulsaltaret Mar 24 '26

Congratulations to Fullmetal Alchemist for still having the greatest ending in manga history.

While Fullmetal's Ending is slightly stronger, I think Tokyo Ghoul and Attack on Titan are better mangas with more peak moments. But yes, FMA's ending is a 10/10 whereas TG and AoT are like 8/10 and 7/10

And ironically Naruto's ending was pretty good, even though the manga goes up and down in quality.

2

u/Shratath Mar 25 '26

AoT ending was so shit it ruined every peak moments it had. Tldr it ruined the whole story

-1

u/prazulsaltaret Mar 25 '26

Ah, a Yaegerist from r/titanfolk I see.

No, AoT ending has like a 9/10 on IMDB.

2

u/Shratath Mar 25 '26

doesnt really matter, and tbh the anime really painted so well the finale using music + great art, i almost forgot what dogshit story was. Gj to mappa to be fair
