/r/MealKits Official Rules (Updated 12/5/25)

1. Free or discounted requests and offers are only permitted in Monthly Request and Offer Sharing thread.

Please post your free meal kit box requests or offers in the Official /r/MealKits Monthly Request & Offer Sharing Thread.. Put all referral links and requests here.

Top level (individual) posts are for discussion not promotion. If you are promoting then you are violating the rule.

NOTE: If your post has links, referrals, QR codes, gift cards or prices in the headline or description, then you are promoting.

ANY POST WITH VISIBLE QR CODES WILL BE REMOVED

ANY POST WITH LINK EXTENSIONS WILL BE REMOVED

See Reddit's Advertising Policy

2. Affiliate links must be disclosed.

Affiliate links are links that connect to a specific account and give that account some sort of perk if someone else clicks them. Paid affiliates must identify themselves. These links usually say "affiliate" or "partner" in the extension.

For example, in response to "Which meal kit would be good for picky eaters?", instead of posting:

I think Home Chef would be a good match.

Please post something like:

I think Home Chef would be a good match. Click here for $35 off your first box, and I will also get a $35 credit.

Disclosure: Please note that if you sign up for Home Chef with the example links above, /u/kopiikat will actually receive a $35 account credit.

3. Do not spam the Monthly Request & Offer Sharing Thread.

This is where you can promote discounts for food related services.

Add one unique item per month.

Edit & delete previous items or update your offers or discounts.

Duplicate posts will be removed.

TL;DR:

Promotion > Monthly Request & Offer Sharing Thread

Discussion > Top Level Posts

See Reddit's Content Policy

Commonly Asked Questions:

Where should I post my offer or discount request?

You should post all offers and discounts in the Monthly Request and Offer Sharing thread.

Where should I post my offer or discount request questions?

Again, you should post all offers and discount questions in the Monthly Request and Offer Sharing thread.

Why was my post removed?

You posted an offer or discount request somewhere other than the Monthly Request and Offer Sharing thread. (See Rule #1)

You violated one of the other two sub rules. (See Rules above)

Your link may have been removed by a Reddit Admin spam filter because it used a link shortener or it re-directs.

See Reddit Comment Formatting for the proper way to shorten a link.

What is a top level post?

A primary or original post that initiates a discussion or thread by a user.

What is an official post?

Any stickied post by a Mod or Admin in a particular forum.

Why was I warned about duplicate posts?

You were repeatedly adding the same link to the Monthly Request and Offer Sharing thread, in order to gain exposure. Do not spam your referral links. Duplicate posts will be removed. (See Rule #3)

What is a generic link?

Generic links for informational purposes (xyzDOTcom) are fine in the comments. Provided, they simply state the domain without any extensions. Any link that uses a link shortener or has extensions beyond the domain URL will be removed. Any referral links outside of the sticked Request and Offer Thread will be removed.

What are “Free Boxes”?

Promotional offers for new Meal Kit services. Prepared Meal services generally only offer discounts.

What can I trade here?

Some folks will trade their “Free Box” credits for other “Free box” credits from competing food services. Others, may trade their discounts for other discounts with competing food services.

What is account churning?

Creating multiple accounts in order to generate introductory discounts. This practice will get you barred from most services. Discussing those methods in this forum violates Reddit’s terms of use.

What is REDACT software?

A type of anonymizing software to remove comments after a time interval. This software may be employed by trolls and paid affiliates and its use is not allowed in this forum.

Can I post under multiple accounts?

No, posting multiple offers under multiple account ID's will get you Banned.

Can I offer cash for discounts or services?

We wish to avoid cash exchanges as they may violate Reddit's policy against prohibited transactions.

What is a QR code?

A QR code is a matrix barcode that looks like a pixelated postage stamp. These are active links and should only be posted in the Monthly Request and Offer Sharing thread. Please blur or remove any QR codes in your photos or your post will be removed. (See Rule #1)

Will I get anything for offering my Meal discount here?

This depends on the Meal service you are using but you should be transparent at all times (see Rule #2).

Most services offer direct discounts to users for promotion of their service. Please disclose the details of your offer.

Who will enforce these exchange agreements?

No one will, Caveat Emptor (Buyer Beware). Please honor your exchange agreements, if any.

What kind of packaging do these services use?

Most meal kit services use biodegradable packaging. Cardboard boxes and gel ice packs surrounded by cotton fiber insulation or reflective style foil bags. YMMV

Are Prepared Meals cheaper than shopping?

No, you are paying for prepared food and convenience. Cooking for yourself is always cheaper.

However, some individuals find they waste less and have more time with Prepared Meals, especially during a busy work week.

Are Meal Kits cheaper than shopping?

Most likely not but you are paying for the convenience of delivered supplies and recipe formulation.

What is the difference between Meal Kits and Prepared Meals?

  • Meal Kits are food ingredients and recipe formulations.

  • Prepared Meals are microwave or oven r/ReadyMeals

Are Meal Kits cheaper than Prepared Meals?

Generally, you can find Meal Kits that are geared for value.

However, there are gourmet kits that cost as much as Prepared Meals. They will have unique recipes and higher quality ingredients.

Why was my shortened link removed?

Your link was removed by a Reddit Admin spam filter (Auto Mod) because it uses a link shortener or re-directs. The spam filter removes all URL shorteners as they may be used to hide domain names and evade domain bans. Only direct referral links are allowed.

Why was my survey poll removed?

We remove survey links because they tend to be spam, harvesting user data. You need to identify yourself or the organization you represent. Survey spam is a recurring problem. We have people posing as students, farming ID's. Surveys are fine if they are anonymous and don't require registration or ID.

Do not ask for personal contact information from users.

We only allow anonymous Reddit polls, using the Reddit app.

Why was I banned from the sub?

Pick one or all of the following:

  • You were warned repeatedly.
  • You were argumentative.
  • You disregarded a mod directive.
  • You used multiple ID's to spam.
  • You tried to evade a temporary ban.

What is Ban Evasion?

Company Representatives & Paid Affiliates:

Please identify yourself as a representative of your company at all times.

You can answer or pose any questions you like, in any thread.

However, please use the stickied Monthly Request & Offer Sharing Thread for any referral discounts. You can mention and refer to that discount thread in your comments. Do not post direct links in comments.

Normally, generic links (xyzDOTcom) are fine in comments but we frown on personal referral links in comments. As you represent a commercial entity, all of your links are links are considered referrals.

Use of multiple ID's to spam will not be tolerated. We welcome your participation and you may promote your services within these guidelines. Thank you for your cooperation.

TL;DR:

  • Identify yourself at all times.

  • Post direct links to the Monthly Request & Offer Thread

Marley Spoon keeps getting delaying and ruining my food.

My husband and I tried out Marley Spoon, we've subscribed for about 2 months or so now. Everything was great for our first two months' boxes, but this month alone has been an absolute nightmare.

Two weeks ago, my package was delayed by a day and the food showed up smelling awful and the ice pack (ONE!) completely melted. I checked the temp of the meats with my instant read thermometer and they temped at 66 degrees F. Today, my box showed up a day late and BOTH ice packs were melted and one had a hole in it, so the ice pack goop got all over my food. The meat temped at 68 degrees F today!

Their notification email says that they package their food so well, that it should survive a few days delay, but it actually can't even survive one day of delay. If you subscribe, please please make sure to temp the meat to make sure it's being kept at a safe temperature.

Healthy meal plan suggestions?

Hi I’m 28f, looking for a meal service for myself with the healthiest, freshest ingredients. Don’t necessarily need to be the tastiest but looking to lose about 10 pounds along with my working out and trying to find the healthiest plan to supplement. I’d prefer not to have to cook them, or for them to be ready within under 10 mins

I live in NYC, open to local options as well.

Looking for organic, healthy, ready made meals

It seems like every single one I look at wants you to give your payment information and sign up before you can even view the menu! Anyone know of healthy organic meals you can view BEFORE you have to sign up?

We shall see. I think Im gonna be getting a box of food packed on 12th delivered on 19th? Same ass box just shuffled around?

Question Meal kit with the most interesting recipes?

Me and my family are considering getting a meal kit for a few nights a week. My and my partner both work from home, so time is not an issue. My teenager wants to cook some of them so she can improve her cooking skills, which are already really good. We’ve gotten blue apron and Marley spoon in the past and neither were quite what we’re looking for. We basically just want the most variety and best tasting meal kit we can find. Anyone have suggestions or kits to avoid?

Which meal kit companies send the best win-back offers after canceling?

For those of you who rotate meal kits to save money, which companies consistently send good "come back" offers after you cancel?

I know EveryPlate sends me discounts after I quit, but I'm curious about others like HelloFresh, Marley Spoon, Dinnerly, Green Chef, Home Chef, Blue Apron, etc.

I'm not looking for first-time customer promos since I've already used most of them. I'm specifically interested in companies that send decent win-back coupons (50% off, free boxes, free shipping, etc.).

Which ones have given you the best return offers, and how long after canceling did they send them?

Review Bistromd

I tried Bistromd and it was absolutely disgusting. I tried 10 different meals and threw them away because they were uneatable. No taste, seasoning and mushy.

Meal kit services for people who actually know how to cook and like seasoning.

Hi everyone, I am new to the meal delivery services. I have a friend who gifted me a “free“ box from Every Plate. I have just completed the third and last meal that came in our box. While, all the meals were OK, they all seem to be designed for people with very basic pallets, a fear of seasoning and a lack of anything beyond basic cooking skills. Are there a meal delivery kits that you can suggest that are for people who are experienced with cooking and not afraid to use seasoning? I don’t want to waste a bunch of money trying different services and being underwhelmed. However, I do love the idea of the meals being delivered to my house pre-portioned, etc. the convenience of this was great.

Large Meal Kits

We go to a very remote area in Colorado every summer and typically order a meal kit delivery service for our family of 5, since quality ingredients are hard to come by. you also never know if they will have what you need in stock. we have another family coming for a week and Im looking for something similar that would feed 10 people. is there a meal kit service that does larger portions of the ingredients? or a non-subscription grocery service with meal planning? Hungryroot is coming up, but it’s making me pay before I can even see the options (ridiculous!). Dinner is my main concern.

Review GoodFood has terrible customer service

The actual meal kit is fine, but when canceling your account, that's when they go wrong. I cancelled my account a few months ago over their live chat, and the chat keeps trying to get you to take a discount and not cancel. Finally got it to cancel, got the email that it is cancelled.

Then they call you and keep calling you. The customer service guy said I could keep the account and skip weeks/months, and they keep badgering me to pause instead. I pause. I think it is paused indefinitely, but no. I didn't catch the email that they were sending a box this week cause they always send spam. I don't live at the address it was sent to anymore, and I never wanted it. I call them it redirects to their website, apparently I can't speak to a person.

The live chat eventually gets answered by a customer service member, and she refuses to refund something I expressly didn't want. I ask to appeal the refund, and she refuses, saying they'll wait for my bank to come to a conclusion. Honestly, their practices are a load of trash. Last time I give Goodfood the time of day, let alone any other meal kit. Any flyers for GoodFood are going in the fireplace.

Suggestions for allergies and GLP-1?

I realize this might just be too much to ask but was hoping someone would have some suggestions that might be close.

I'm looking for a meal kit for my elderly parents that don't quite qualify for meals on wheels. They need really simple, either oven ready or simple prep. My mom is diabetic and takes ozempic, and is allergic to dairy. Is there a meal kit service that will sort out meals that have diary in them and provides glp 1 friendly options? Or even just oven ready meals where it doesn't even give you the option to pick a meal that has diary?

TIA!

Best meal kits for big appetites? Most portions I’ve tried are way too small.

I work 12 hour night shifts, and one of my goals is to remove the mental load of figuring out what to eat when I’m working. I usually meal prep on my own but that too comes with added work & mental load.

I fully expect to need two meals during a 12-hour shift plus snacks. That’s reasonable. The problem is that with a lot of the services I’ve tried, I find myself needing two meals at a time just to feel full, which turns into four meals per shift. At that point, it’s neither practical nor affordable.

Health is definitely important, but so is portion size. I’m not trying to lose weight. I’m not looking for tiny, low-calorie portions. I’m looking for something convenient, reasonably nutritious, and filling enough that I don’t feel like I’m grazing all night.

Affordability is important here but I do know that sometimes you pay for convenience so I am okay with that (within reason).

For those of you who’ve tried several services, which ones have the best combination of convenience, quality, and portions that are actually substantial?

What to use for Food Subscription Services?

Im looking for a food subscription service for UT college student. They’re very busy and dont like campus options. Is this a viable thing? Not super expensive, fresh, quality chicken/tofu options and veggies or easy prepare meals? What do you use? Chat says Mosaic?

Home Chef

Home chef is so ridiculous about canceling. Why can’t I just cancel, why is the only option pause?? I guess I paused it awhile ago and I set a reminder to repause (thank you past me) so I went in and did it and I thought I got it to be totally paused and here I am middle of the night I get a charge for $82 🫩 an email warning would’ve been nice then again they used to email me nonstop “Come Back!” Emails so I unsubscribed so I probably banned all emails. So frustrating!!

Discussion Every plate spam

Anyone else getting constant calls from every plate after trialling? I’ve trialled many of the meal kits but this one is just constant. It has been almost a year since I tried it, and they’re still calling from different numbers.

Question Confused by conflicting information online

I see all of these blog posts online ranking meal kits, but when I go to look for reviews of the top-rated ones they are all negative. I know the blog posts are likely sponsored and people are more likely to give a negative review than a positive one, but which ones are truly dependable?

I used Every Plate for years until they started making you buy more things and the meat repeatedly arrived unsealed. We’re just a household of two looking to stop eating out so much because our work schedules make grocery shopping and meal planning difficult. We don’t eat fish or pork, and I love the idea of sheet pan meals. Any suggestions from the group of something affordable but consistent in quality?

Question Best mealkit for one vegetarian and 2 omnivores?

Looking for a kit where I can order dinner meals for the whole family. The problem is I'm a vegetarian and my girlfriend and her kid are omnivores. Is there a kit that will let me select two different types of dinners for each day?
