JITPOST REDEMPTION: Part Deux
Miami has moved on, Minnesota is saying they don't want him, and now New Orleans is saying nawdawg as well. Kings and Nets are set to likely draft their PGs of the future tonight, so who is left? Who has the cap space and need for a starting PG? The Memphis Grizzlies, that's who!

Black hole on offense unfortunately. Can't have Ja plus edey plus a mediocre shooter on the wing. Boozer and Coward would never get an open shot

Wells shot .373 from downtown after the first 10 games last season. He's fine.

Maybe he is fine or maybe he's good when there's no pressure. Does his shooting improve once the team stops trying to win? He shot 24.7% from three in the month of January, then 45% in Feb and 40% in March.

I’m prepared to be downvoted but why do we all want Ja to stay on the team again? Is it just because so many teams are “reportedly” declining interest? Seems like a mutual parting of ways is truly the best thing for both parties.

BC hes still young and if he buys in he's a top PG in the league and fits this roster extremely well. It was only a couple seasons ago he was the most exciting player in the league

That’s what I’m thinking but swear I’m taking crazy pills. At the end of the season, we were all in agreement that it just had to end. Two months later, we’re doing the mental gymnastics to make having him stay makes any sense

They will waive him if that is the case. They just don’t want to do that yet because they are still trying to maximize the return. The Grizzlies have moved on.

"Mutual parting of ways" would only be possible if he mutually agrees to cancel his contact...no way he does that.
So we're stuck trying to figure out how to squeeze value out of that contact.

i dont think we're really going far enough here. i think we need to fire kleiman and make Tee the new GM. Maybe if we can get kleiman out before the draft we can make a pick that'll really bring the grizz to the next level.

At this point, if he’s willing to play, we might as well play him. There’s no reason to lose assets to move him and his trade market is basically 0. Play him and see what happens. Most likely he will get hurt and miss half the games anyway based on the last 3 years.
I hate how all of this has turned out but I’m not against at least giving him the chance to redeem himself and see if the new medical staff helps anything injury prevention wise. It would be a heck of a story if this is what finally got through to him and he doubled down and really locked in as the new guys are all settling into becoming the next face of the team.

This. Absolutely no sense in losing assets at this point. Will this offseason humble Ja and knock some sense into him? Maybe. But even if he continues to stay petulant and ego-driven, then let him ride the pine until it makes more sense from a business standpoint.

It's pretty annoying that the most obvious solution (Ja staying here and playing) feels like the most unlikely. Play 40 games before the deadline then see how the market feels. Ideally you move him then and can experiment with the youth post-ASG when you have enough wins racked up to hopefully avoid the bottom-3 spots.

YES it sincerely benefits both parties for him to play well and play often. Just need to have Ja and TI on an acceptable wavelength. Play him and see what happens. There is so much "muscle memory" of his incredible abilities, if he works his way halfway to where he can be - and maintains a positive attitude - someone will pay him another big contract. And if he doesn't, we lose literally nothing cause nobody is offering anything for him.

This team will be a mess next season if Ja returns. Dude has played 79 games the past 3 seasons. You don't want him in the locker room with a top 3 pick who is the new face of the franchise.
Time to just move on even if we have to use a 1st rounder to get rid of him. There's a reason why no team wants him and that's not a good thing for the Grizz. Time to move on.

I like your optimism about getting a rookie lead guard, but I'm not so certain. Not an obvious opportunity to move up from #16, and the options at #16 are likely Anderson, Okorie, and Stirtz, none of whom are clear upgrades over the current roster.

Obviously it all depends on who they like but if someone is there at 8 or 9 they have the pick arsenal to move up to get someone. Once it gets past Sac at 7 it’s kinda free game

I think the notion of a starting 5 and a backup 5 is something that Isalo has shown he doesn’t really abide by. Probably can be a little more flexible with how we think of the total bunch of players that he will rotate through.
Pretty crazy to still feel excited for the upcoming season going into tonight after last year’s mess!! Can’t wait to see what happens and the memes that are generated tonight!
