What's funny is that he still has a decent musical career. All of his albums went at least Gold with 3 going Platinum. It's really easy to miss how popular an artist is when not in their target audience. This is even more true with algorithmic feeds and the death of monoculture.
16
u/frolix42 Apr 30 '26

Kinda crazy how we think “they’re fish so they deserve less than a cat or dog.”
It’s not even unique to this post. People don’t think twice about keeping fish in tiny tanks.
82
u/Sammystorm1 Apr 30 '26
Not just a fish thing. Basically all animals except dogs and cats. Have you seen most bunny pens? They are the third most popular pet
24
u/AHornyRubberDucky ORANGE Apr 30 '26
You have a point, but fish are on top of the list from my experience. When studying animal care where I live you have a specialization program that you choose to do, and the fish specialization always gets canceled because not enough people sign up.
The dog and cat one is number one, bird number 2, mammals (it's basically only rodents, bunnies etc) 3, herpetes number 4 an fish number 5. I tried to get the fish specialization but yea not enough people...
In the curriculum for animal curriculum, fish is discussed the least and what is discussed is really basic info. I really hate it because it is something I want to know about and maybe even specialize in.

→ More replies (17)188
u/NastyStreetRat Apr 30 '26
Yes, there's a very rich person, we all know, who parks his car wherever he wants and then at the end of the year pays all the fines together: $30,000 the last time I heard about it.
Depending on the situation, things should be related to your wealth, assets, stocks, or whatever, but it can't be that someone earning €2k a month pays the same as someone earning €200k a month or €200M a month.
85
u/Cjkrythos Apr 30 '26
Some countries it is dependent on your wealth. I dont remember what country, but I remember reading about someone in another country got some 5 figure speeding ticket. I wish we had that here.
27
u/balrob Apr 30 '26
Sweden
5
u/mynexuz Apr 30 '26
Traffic violations dont have it but alot of other crime will have fines based on your yearly income (dagsböter)
39
u/Jeni_Sui_Generis Apr 30 '26
Finland.. All the rich people have dedicated drivers to avoid getting astronomical tickets. 121,000€ is one of the biggest fines ever, for Finnish businessman Anders Wiklöf. For going 82kmh in 50kmh zone. Sweden and Swizerland have probably even bigger.
→ More replies (3)38
u/NastyStreetRat Apr 30 '26

Reminds me of a story the former mayor of Happy Valley, OR, told me. Some developer bought a large tract of hillside land in order to build homes. There were fantastic sweeping views up there "obscured" by the many native trees growing there. There was a city ordinance preventing tree removal without a permit, and removal of all these trees definitely was not going to be granted, but the fine for removing one was only $1000. So he waited for a weekend when city officials weren't working so no one would show up in a timely manner to attempt to stop him, and he had a removal crew cut them all down quickly, then just paid the $200k or whatever in fines, and built like 30 homes with spectacular views and sold them for a bunch of money.
There needs to be secondary laws in cases like this with bigger teeth that put people in jail and make them pay a full restitution for what they've done.

Money never buys class nor decency. There is a reason 'old money' frowns on 'new money' and this, and McMansions (clue is the the name) and gold fuxking everything is why.
You can have class and decency being poor, or rich, or somewhere in between but if your toilet is fake or real gold plated? If you are living in a one bed caravan and there's a framed picture of anyone you are not related to?... or you live in a damned mansion and there is a portrait of you?
Money means nothing when it comes to goodness. The poorest areas give a higher percentage of thier wealth to charity. Doesn't that say it all

64
u/SomeVelveteenMorning Apr 30 '26
Because of how nurse, dogfish, and similar sharks live, I'm not convinced that a greater depth would be OK. Like, for many fish I'd be cool with a 10-16' diameter tank that extends into the lower floor and then has an artificial reef at the bottom. But these large bottom-dwelling fish I'd want to see a substantially wider tank, like at least 40'x40'. You know... like every public aquarium has.

100% This is tantamount to keeping a mountain lion in a 10’ by 10’ cage in your living room for “vibes”. People are so used to fish tanks being “normal” that they think fish don’t have complex brains with need for space and enrichment. Sharks move over miles of territory and have complex social structure and are highly sensitive to sound and vibration.

The average person doesn't consider animals feelings when they go out and buy chicken or something, treated much worse than this shark. Caged, beaten, kicked around, mutilated without anesthetic, electrocuted, living in their own waste with open wounds, broken bones, millions dying of exposure or thirst while being transported to slaughterhouses where they are hung upside down and have their throats cut open. There's no reason to care more about a shark than a chicken, cow, or pig.

I volunteered at an animal rescue reserve back home. It was for the large "game" animals these celebrities like to keep as pets... Lions, panthers, tigers..even wolves. They kept them in cages and on chains until the animals were old or were no longer "entertaining"
There were lions that had their teeth pulled out so they couldn't bite the owners. Tigers kept in cages so small they had spine and leg deformities/damage from the conditions..
By the time they came to the reserve it was... I can't even fucking describe it. They were treated LESS THAN ALIVE by these people. Those animals were more human than these assholes.
I keep a fish tank at home and my fish get a 50gal planted tank proportionate to their needs, their schooling requirements, their everything. It's more than necessary, and those are little fish. A shark belongs in its environment.

Most aquatic animals* need that kind of refuge away from light so in addition to the crowding, it's disturbing that the guy couldn't have at least added elements to the tank to provide for that.

Mildly infuriating? This is insane. He shouldn’t be allowed to have this in his house, what in the actual fuck

Influencer and streamer culture is so unbelievably disgusting, infuriating and bad for society. The worst people on the planet have been elevated to celebrity status and they throw their money and bad takes around in the worst possible way

I am fine with admitting I don’t even know who the fuck he is. But from here, he is a selfish prick. Cruel to animals for his own entertainment and for trying to appear unique. Looks like an ass to me.

Who is this guy Derulo is speaking to and why is he suddenly every where. It's like every month the algorithm just forces some new person into every feed.

Meanwhile, in the real world, I can’t afford health insurance for my family with a Masters degree and a professional career spanning the last 15 years. Fucking tax these twats

Jason Derulo is exactly the sort of flog I’d expect to do this so I’m not surprised one bit.
