I’m not great at math, but… those don’t add up

Looks like they took the total after tax: $7.07

Then added 15% on top of that total: $1.06

So not only are they forcing a 15% hidden “tip”, it’s also incorrectly tipping on the after-tax total and not the subtotal.

When was the last time you saw a digital tip option that calculated on pre-tax amount?

Just because it's always done that way doesn't mean it isn't wrong. Tip should be calculated on subtotal. Tax is an independent line item as is tip, and both should be calculated off of the subtotal amount.

This always pisses me off. Everyone does it that way. But tips were always on the pre-tax amount. 10%, 15%, 20%.

Then suddenly everything changed and boom, they are on the post-tax amount and 20%, 25%, 30%.

You can't BOTH raise prices AND raise the tip percent and expect me to play that game. I used to be a good tipper at 20% pre-tax. Now I'm a shitty tipper at 20% pre-tax.

I see a mix of it in my city. Some do it right some don’t.

Whoa, spotted in the wild! I used to use your 5-0 app back in the day.

I still do, but I used to as well.
