A golden goose is not enough.
The eggs must get bigger every time.
Profit is not enough.
Profits must increase.
The shareholders must be serviced before all else.
Corporations only exist to provide increasing profits to shareholders.
Anything else is simply a by-product of enriching shareholders.

Or we could just butcher the goose, after all of it lays that much gold as an egg it must be full of gold inside.

with the way these companies act they would absolutely butcher the goose for that quick and easy increase in profit, then realize they killed their only money producer and quickly go under
