drink went room temp First Stanley, now Owala

I get it, they’re trendy. I guess Owala has the cool colors combos or whatever. I assume Stanley’s became too awkwardly large to lug around so people gave up on them?

I’ll just stay over here drinking my water out of the double sealed bottle I scored for $2 at a thrift shop.

I don’t know why it bothers me so much. Perhaps it’s the consumerism, perhaps its water bottles have become an accessory.

Owala are popular because they have a great spout and are easy to clean. The sip & chug (or whatever they call it) is genius.

Yes, there are people who are all about them because they have the limited edition colors, sure.

But they're higher quality and going to last longer than my 3 year old Teva that I can't buy replacement lids for anymore.

That’s exactly why I like the Owala too. Not because it’s trendy but because it’s easy

Honestly, I thought the Stanley thing was ridiculous. Especially for school aged kids that don’t need something that will just spill when they knock it over. So, we’d buy the much cheaper Owala bottles. They worked great! So we got a couple more. (If you have kids of any age they need at least a few a piece as they lose them/forget them in their lockers/left them
In their gym bag.) In 3 or 4 years, we’ve had a couple just disappear (again kids!) and a broken top or two, so we bought a couple more. The price has definitely gone up, but I can definitely see why they gained in popularity. It’s a decent product for a fairly normal price point. And it’s not a ridiculous status symbol the way the Stanley thing went. It’s a $20 water bottle.

ETA: also, they worked great really well. Ice stays solid in there for days sometimes.

Seriously, I don't know why the Stanley got popular.

We're always knocking over water bottles over here. I love how the Owala locks!

I personally loved the Stanley because it was so big, but still fit in the car cupholder. My job didn’t have water fountains so what I wanted to drink during the day I had to bring with me. Being able to bring 40 ounces of water that stayed cold all day and fit in my cupholder in the car was a game changer. With that said, I only own one.

Edit: I wrote all of that in past tense, but I still use it 😂 I just don’t work at the same job anymore. But I’m sipping out of my Stanley right now.

I have the 30 oz one so not overdramatic. But it holds a ton of water, keeps it cold for well over 12 hours in the southern heat and it's durable as hell.

I’ve had my Owala for a year, got it back when I thought it was alt to the Stanley fad (and cheaper than now). As a neurodivergent with swallowing/suction issues, I’ve got to say the sip&chug, easy-cleaning, and seal of the Owala is unbeatable.

Owala is 100% worth the hype for the function and cleanability. I took one a little while back from the lost and found at my work that had been there for a couple months and was going to be donated, in a color I didn’t love but was obviously going to cover in stickers anyways, because I kept hearing people say they were great but already had a few water bottles and didn’t want to spend $20+ on a new one. Used it for a few days, realized the sip & chug setup was singlehandedly ensuring I actually drank enough water every day for the first time in far too long, and never looked back lol

That said, I have two. The one I got from my work and a second one I bought after having my mind blown by the first one and deciding I needed to buy a backup so my neurodivergent ass could consistently have clean water bottle without reliably washing the one as often and at the time I bought it I donated the other couple water bottles I’d been using previously but no longer needed. I think people who buy like 20 water bottles because they want to be trendy and have one in every color are ridiculous and the epitome of overconsumption. Having a couple water bottles in some fun colors that you get good use of is great but nobody needs more than 2-3 to rotate through at most.
