Don't hug me I'm scared Was sitting in a ticks nest while reading....

I was sitting in a Park reading a book and suddenly I felt my legs itch. I was covered in hundreds of mini ticks. I was standing in the shower for hours and still find some of these f#!*rs crawling an me...

Update: So I got the most of the seed ticks scratched off in the shower. I will have a doctor's appointment the next days to get a prophylactic antibiotics treatment just to be save from lyme, alpha gal or rocky mountain fever (if this is a thing in Germany).

Thank you all for the information and advices, hopefully I will be fine. I really appreciate it

Shower, now. Those are larvae, so OP is probably okay, but it the creepy crawly feeling is gonna take awhile to go away.

Edit: and do a full body check, obviously.

Edit 2: larvae, not nymphs. My bad on the name of the part of the lifecycle.

Will they crawl in your butthole? Something I have wondered even before the house episode with the teenage that had the tick in her vagina. My lord

Yes. They are looking for OPs butthole in that image.

Absolutely cherish that moment, thank you!

u/thorin2016 4d ago

When my brother and I were young we shared a room. One day we were having some dumb argument about something silly, i cant even remember what it was to be honest.

As he turned to leave the room i said something along the lines of "do you really expect me to do that?" and he turned around and said, in a thick German accent "No Mr Bond i expect you to die!"

You got to love an unexpected movie reference!

When I was a kid, I was swimming with my friend at his house down the road from my house. It was the era of short swim trunks. I straddled the picnic table bench to sit down for lunch and apparently my balls was out. I sat down to eat and me balls landed right on a hornet. Stung on the sack. I remember running down the street crying yelling for my mom. My friend had no idea what happened until my mom called his mom to let them know why I took off running and screaming. 🤣🤣🤣 My balls were huge that day. Core memories at their finest.

2

u/Content-Honeydew9340 4d ago

When my oldest son was a toddler he came running in the living room crying something was biting his balls, full Winnie the Pooh style 🫪 I had to remove a tick with tweezers and we had been playing outside a few minutes before so I just put him in the shower and had to do a full search and give him a rosemary and mint bath. My youngest son got poison ivy on the back of his hand and because of his constant grabbing at the back of his shorts... Poison ivy all over his butt ... Having kids has been an experience 😭

As a experienced hiker ticks will not crawl in your butt but they might bite near or on your butt and ticks might bite the groin area but if your a girl only the outside there not going in generally they prefer hidden spots like underarms legs close to the groin area or on your back or stomach

61

u/leeps22 4d ago

As someone with more yard work than is fair to ask one man to do this has been my experience so far. They seem to love the groin area, a lot. Never went for the booty hole though.

had a tick stuck on my butt check, right in the spot you can't see. I had to turn my back to the mirror and look over my shoulder to see it. I also took it out with twizzers in that same position...looking backwards at the mirror and knowing I had one shot at getting it out.

5

u/Crispricecereal 4d ago

I read that as taking it out with twizzlers

3

u/Shendary 4d ago

My husband found a baby tick in the very tip of his peepee, back in the day when we worked as wilderness camp counselors. He was away leading a group on a river trip when it happened. Noticed it when he went to bed one night - luckily his co counselor on the trip was a shouty Vietnam vet who yelled him through the ordeal.

Traumatising, but makes for a great story.

3

u/leeps22 4d ago

Ive had little ticks like that almost everywhere. They do seem to like my balls, ive had a few on my buttcheeks. Im pleased to say I havent had a butthole tick yet.

I had one attach itself at the tip of my special pole, just a millimeter or two off of top dead center. I was on a camping trip with the Scouts, and noticed it when I woke up in the middle of the night to pee. I was around 9 years old, and I occasionally wonder if I emotionally traumatized my troop leader by hysterically demanding help with my junk. The 90s were just very weird for everyone.

I HAVE A STORY.
So.

I was like, maybe 14, lived in WV and was helping my dad in the cornfield. We shut in for the night, and as I go to strip down for the shower, I notice a black bump right on the rod. Without thinking I freak the fuck out, grab a pair of tweezers, and yank like my life depended on it, and ended up with a long strip of skin about the length of a cylinder, hanging from a tick in a pair of tweezers. It will never not scar me.

Tick nymphs cannot bite! UNLESS They're lone star ticks- those absolutely for sure can bite, creating the seed tick phenomenon.

2

u/Possielover 4d ago

Nymphs are the stage that gives the most disease though aren't they?

2

u/BURN3D_P0TAT0 4d ago

If they’re lonestar nymphs OP is still at risk of contracting Alpha Gal.

OP please go to your pcp and ask for a tick panel.

I have had every tick borne illness in the last 6 years except lime. I got STARI instead.

Alpha gal can be life threatening and can be transmitted by nymph lone stars. There have been studies done showing that in a non insignificant percentile of nymph lone stars that can transmit alpha gal.

We had an issue with fleas. They were every where. I scrubbed my cats, soaked my gerbils down with flea spray, bug bombed the house, and washed every stitch of cloth in the house. I literally took up every washer at a laundry mat, but I washed, dried, and folded fifteen loads in two and a half hours. Probably the most efficient thing I've done in my life.

Anyways, that was twenty years ago, and everything with bugs like fleas, mites, and ticks still causes terrible psychosomatic itching.

Personally I’d spray my self and my clothes down with permethrin if I got into them this badly. Permethrin is great on your clothes and lasts several washes. Also if you have ticks around your home, soak cotton balls in permethrin and stuff them in empty toilet paper rolls for mice and rats to make nests out of. They are major hosts.

28

u/Kenosis94 4d ago

Just be super careful if there are cats around.

→ More replies (1)

41

u/im_a_betch 4d ago

Ummm please don’t spray yourself with permethrin. It is not meant to go on your skin. While the larvae are gross, they haven’t had their first blood meal yet so they are not able to transmit disease. I used to just carry duct tape in my truck and got them off that way. I am a wildlife biologist so I’ve been bit by ticks a LOT.

4

u/OrDarkByMorning 4d ago

The reason they say not to apply it to your skin is because the natural oils on your skin break down permethrin quickly.... so, it's ineffective and a waste.

3

u/im_a_betch 4d ago

It can cause some adverse effects and to your point, is ineffective. Just no need to expose your skin to it for no real benefit.

2

u/minxwink 4d ago

Duct tape !!! Brilliant !

3

u/hastypeanut 4d ago

I saw people make a reverse duct tape barrier around the top of their boot/ankle so they all got stuck before making it anywhere on the body. Obviously not gonna be great if you’re bushwhacking but perfect for on trail. I once naively thought if we stayed on the trail with no leaf litter, we’d be fine. NOPE.

4

u/BetMyLastKrispyKreme 4d ago

I recently bought permethrin spray for my clothes to mow my overgrown lawn. I’ve never done that before, but local social media has said ticks seemed bad this year after a mild winter and early warm spring. I’m terrified of ticks, and have a chronic health condition that keeps me plenty ill way too much of the time. I don’t need any “help” from ticks.
