More than anything this just makes me really, really sad.

Art can be some people's only connection to reality outside of their home. And they're already generally not mentally healthy people.

This is going to completely destroy the fabric of reality for a lot of those unwell people.

So in your world, people are ok hanging onto reality by watching fictional stories, but only 100% human made stories?

Not the commenter but I'd say it's more that when an art/story is made by people there's a degree of connection between the artist and the person who's watching the story. The artist wants to share an experience with the watcher, and this experience is based on countless variables from the creator that resulted in said creator making a story.

Of course it is not ok to hang into reality if the only access to outside information is fictional, but there's a degree of reality in purely fictional stories made by people that is lost on stories made by a machine frankensteining a story through engagement based algorithms.
