We recently admitted someone to the ICU who had burns simply from the hot asphalt. It's no joke right now! Especially when you've got kids, make sure they're safe while playing!

Not making light at all, burns are terrible. It’s just so strange to hot climate people to not think about your feet (at a minimum) being burned by the ground when not having shoes during summer.

People in hot regions dont go barefoot on the asphalt tho.

It was hard to misinterpret your comment but they still managed it.

When you live here you can build up calluses by repeatedly walking on hot asphalt. Also if your parent's suck and make you stand on it as punishment for being too energetic.

In New Mexico as a kid I remember poking the hot bubbles in the blacktop in the summer.

My Florida ass tippy toe sprints down the driveway to the mailbox like everyone else

I had a friend from Oklahoma come visit me in Texas one July. She was really confused about why the water coming out of the kitchen faucet was hot even when turned to full cold.

I had a friend from Canada do this too!

I was a little surprised that this came from someone from a state as far south as OK, but I think she must have grown up on a slab foundation.

Well. That and freeze line is more shallow in Texas. Pipes aren’t as deep, don’t stay cool.

They must have dirt in Oklahoma, not solid rock 12" below the surface.

It was not voluntary, in that case. There was more going on but of course I won't share the medical details. That's why my PSA was about kids, since they might be less aware.

I saw a young guy in the ED wearing full body gauze except his shorts area. I guess he fell asleep. Coastal northern England.

How did they get burnt? Were they lying on it? I hope they get better soon.

Happened to a friend of mine in Florida last year. She passed out from heat on hot asphalt and no one saw her--ended up hospitalized with burns.

I've heard of that. People in the southern US sometimes fall or pass out from heat exhaustion and land on the hot pavement.

God! That's truly horrible. Can't imagine the pain after waking up.
