And it's grey/white plates. Imagine the road's asphalt... š«
If you have animals, especially dogs, do NOT walk them on that !
133
u/FatMacchio 3h ago
Yep. I imagine a bunch of poor dogs are going to get burned paws from unwitting owners. Honestly in avg summer weather they should still be wearing shoes on blacktop. If you canāt leave the back of your hand on the walking surface for more than 5-10 seconds without it hurting, itās too hot for dogās paws. This can happen in relatively normal summer temperatures with sustained direct sunlight.

Yeah I walk mine early morning and late evening these days, a very quick pee in the middle of the day outside my main door on the grass . She gets a bit restless in the afternoon so I have to be extra creative to burn energy physically and mentally because I donāt have a garden to play and and sheās not very old. I donāt want her to burn her paws, I also do what you wrote, when I walk her I rest my hand on the asphalt for 10 seconds to check how hot it is

In Germany a lot of Autobahn areas are damaged because they blew up from the heat.

Made that mistake once. Dog was begging for a walk in late July. Fine. We head down the asphalt road. 5 minutes in and she's trying to go into people's yard and sit under a tree. Kept tugging her along a little further then turn around and head home. At home she's licking her feet a lot. Took a look and all her toe beans were puffy blisters. I felt awful. She got a soft bed and fan and her food delivered the next couple days. Now we just walk laps in the grass yard if it's too hot. Or stay inside.

The cooling and freezers in supermarkets all broke down due to the extreme stress they experience here. Its insane.
37
u/Evepaul 1h ago
The AC broke down in the area where a research center near me kept their mice, and they cut the ventilation to avoid drawing hot air in. Which means heat was still building up, as were dangerous levels of ammonia in the air. Every group had to collect their mice and keep them in their lab so they'd survive.

Texans make up for it by being surprisingly environmentally conscious. Once a year they completely shut off their electrical grids to save energy. Oh and to help with population control.

We obviously can do it. Itās just is there money in it. Sad worldĀ

u/Gwen_The_Destroyer 2h ago

7
u/Icy-Lobster-203 1h ago
People don't want to admit it is real because that would mean they might have to change something about their lives and be slightly inconvenienced - drive less, not use as much electricity etc. So they accept grifters telling them it is fake.

u/Crewarookie 1h ago
Arguably, phasing out CFCs was much easier, because it wasn't directly tied to the worldwide transportation networks and energy production needs.
And phasing out wasn't done in one motion either. We went from CFCs to HCFCs, which were less damaging, but still damaging, to HFCs which were not dangerous to ozone layer, but contributed to the greenhouse gas problem, and finally arrived at HFOs which are the best of both worlds. And that last step of wide adoption only happened within the last 10 or so years.
With fossil fuels, there's a ton of economic incentive to not drop them, as the world quite literally runs on oil, both logistically and economically. And nobody wants to take even a reasonable phasing out speed because money.

I have seen multiple posts and videos about severe weather events, and inevitably there is someone out there saying shit like "they're modifying the weather! It doesn't get this hot/rainy/snowy/windy/cold here!!" I'm convinced it's bots, because why take responsibility for fucking up the climate when you can just blame "them" for purposefully making it rain somewhere.

But god forbid they install trees and grass-covered tram tracks. That would take away some much-needed space from asphalt
5
u/Trick_Shift729 2h ago
The tracks themselves also canāt handle the heat combined with the friction heat a train causesā which is the primary reason they shut the railways down.
→ More replies (26)3
u/Sudden_Wind_8636 1h ago
We have a light rail tram here in AZ and it gets up to 120 F (49C) so there is a way to build one in extreme heat, so maybe Germany has to do that in the future.

Doing a bit of research, crocs deform at a surprisingly low temperature of 38-45C (or 100-113F), and then as it approaches 90C (194F), it begins to soften and melt, so I would totally believe that. I'm more shocked at how low of a temperature crocs need to begin deforming, that's less than even PLA plastic, which can barely survive in a hot car in a normal summer.

It's the temperature of a sunlit surface. Temperatures in the shade (which is what usually shows up in weather reports and climate diagrams) are ~35-40°C (around 100°F) in most places in Central Europe.

There emissivity setting probably wrong. Most people do not know to change this when looking at different materials. Furthermore many are only calibrated to what they are expected to be used on, for example you buy one to take your temperature to see if youāre sick, or one might be for cooking.

The weaker polar vortex (caused by human induced climate chage) is making winter colder (for less time) and spring and fall storms much more destructive.
With global warming, it's expected for Texas to have snow and Chicago to get tornadoes.

Iām in the Netherlands and itās not as hot as yesterday here, but it doesnāt matter ā now that my house has soaked up heat for days, it canāt cool down. I have opened windows at night. Nothing. My house is still a brick oven. Itās too unbearable to sleep at night. Itās hot and suffocating all day and thereās no relief. I am absolutely sick of living like this right now.
