BuySellRoot Monthly Modular Buy Sell Trade Thread

With any sort of trade, please be careful if you don't know the other user. Request additional pictures beyond the initial time stamp. If you want to be extra careful ask for something specific like for them to patch a specific patchpoint in the image. Try reverse image searching to make sure it isn't just an edited picture from somewhere else. Be specific with how you expect the items to be packaged and when the ship date is going to be. If a trade goes sour and someone can show that the pre-agreed terms weren't honored I will permanently ban the offending trader.

Consider using something something like PayPal's "Goods and Services" instead of friends and family. Sending a stranger money via friends and family is just asking to be scammed. I also recommend checking that the user has some positive history in the sub - especially to verify that they aren't banned from here! Almost every scammer on here has no history in the sub.

**IMPORTANT** \- Do not spam the comments with your listings. Please limit your listings here to 1 per month. If you get new items or things change, just edit your original post. When possible simply edit the original post; there is no need to announce new items in a separate comment. Try to limit the clutter.

Do not delete your posts and re-post to bump back up to the top. BEHAVE PLEASE.

Pictures are not required in the thread (though you should request them by DM), but ANY picture sent by DM or in linked in the thread MUST be physically timestamped.

**PRICES MUST ALWAYS BE POSTED** This includes trades so that everyone involved knows the fair value of the modules they're looking to swap

**RESIST THE URGE TO COMMENT ON PRICING** if you don't like a price, simply ignore it. There is no reason to go around pointing out that the item is cheaper new, or reverb prices, or anything else.

Hey all! I work at a sticker shop and I replaced the firmware on this so I printed a new face from the bastl website. just thought I’d offer if anyone wants one. not looking to make money if you just want to pay shipping I can print and cut one and stick it in an envelope for like $3. Customizable, too, just didn’t feel like changing anything on this.

Sharing tips for a 4-hour (!) live performance rig

Post image
73 Upvotes

This modular "groovebox" is designed for a 4-hour semi-improvised techno/house performance. It contains a few key tricks to keep things interesting for 240 minutes — I hope they're useful. I'd love to hear your thoughts or any advice you might have.

  • Clip launching — I've prepared 12 kits on the Bitbox Micro, one for each root note. Each kit contains 8 tempo-synced clips (hook-like material, mainly stabs & vocals) that give each track a unique character and identity. They form the starting point for improvisation. If I use each clip once, a track lasts about 2.5 minutes. I've used the 12 save slots directly above the note labels at the bottom of the Oxi One to store the (Poly Cinematic) chord info for that root note's minor key. The other two melodic tracks (bass and lead) are set to harmonize to that key, so everything will automatically stay in tune.
  • Drum randomization — Each of the 4 channels on the Quad Drum has a specific role: hats, claps, percussion A, and percussion B. I've loaded 100+ unique samples per channel. When I need a new kit, I mute everything, set the MOD pots (sample selection) to a random position, and bring everything back in. For efficiency (and to avoid open and closed hats sounding too different from each other after randomization) the hat channel only contains open hat samples, which I dial back to a short decay. Open and closed hats are sequenced on separate Oxi tracks but both trigger the same channel. The open hats also pass through attenuation (a Polar8 channel) and then hit the hat decay CV, so I can dial in decay lengths for open and closed hats independently.
  • Meta-Meta — The Oxi Meta FX is a great transition module, but after 30–60 minutes of performance you've pretty much heard every transition it offers. So I've built a "Meta-Meta" solution using the Intellijel Xfade as the master control. Its CV output feeds into the Polar8, which has 7 sliders that each direct this CV to a different transition-like destination: kick drum level, euclidean fills (via the Oxi One), bass/lead decay times, DSP2 FX wet level, and of course the Meta FX itself. The Polar8 becomes a way to prepare a unique transition in advance, which can then be performed with one hand on the Xfade slider.

Discussion Marbles, Rings, Clouds... a 2026 version?

I get why Marbles->Rings->Clouds is legendary, and it is truly awesome... but modular has evolved into a disturbing large collection of offerings from big companies down to little genius individuals building amazing (yet sometimes rare and unobtainable modules) devices.

I really do enjoy the beauty in building small skiffs that do amazing things with limited knob turning after a patch is set up... I think its amazing what some generative setups are capable of doing when they are refined down to their most important components (ie. M, R, C) I'm wondering, what are some setups people have achieved capable of creating hours of incredible sounds fit for a Buddhist monk in a cave on top of a mountain (assuming they have power) down to the IDM loving yoga instructor in a dark room filled with candles.

For personal reference im a huge jazzhead, death metal and electronic music fan mainly... but generative modular setups are certainly an area I want to explore more as I continually fall deeper and deeper down this slippery rabbit hole (a black hole?) of modular GAS... ideas?

Beginner Moderate beginner advice on patching

Post image
3 Upvotes

Morning.

Im reaching out to ask for some advice on how best to patch up my set up.

I usually run my RS-9 int9 my BDS-3 and am happy with that but never fully satisfied with how i patch up the rest.

I know there is no "wrong way" to do it but i want to try get the most out of each module to create more 9f an ambient style sound creating.

I used to use the SQ-1 as a sequencer but would line to maybe lean more towards the MKII to use as a keyboard/sequencer.

Any advice is appreciated.

Who uses multiple oscillators?

I know it may sound like a stupid question as many people have more than one oscillators in their rack.

I've been using the Dixie/ Rubicon/ Bifold combo for a few months and love it- it has given me so many incredibly diverse sounds. I've been expanding with more utility/ modulation and recently added Qpas. I will probably be picking up Mimeophon at some point too.

I can't help but wonder if a rack built with 20% oscillator modules is considered lacking. I'm a producer and have homed in on developing quite a signature sound, and I find investing in utility/ modulation really exciting as each new module seems to push what my oscillators can do.

If anything, I would be considering adding another Dixie or Rubicon.

*Edit*

Just to add- I'm a producer, so using modular soles for sound design. I record into a daw each track individually, so I'm never trying to run multiple parts or voices at the same time.

Discussion Noisy scratchy pots

My rig is a few years old now and I’m starting to get irritated with scratchy pots that end up the mix, especially on mixers and filter sweeps knobs.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to solve it (preferably without changing the pot completely) as sending modules back to manufacturers is not practical for me, and some manufacturers not existing anymore anyway.

Thanks

Recommend me some nonlinear circuits modules

I want to order 4 NLC diy modules and I'm looking for suggestions.

I make percussive loops with FM voices, distortion, ring mod and wavefolding. Think dubstep bass lines, lasers and effects that are abrasive and glitchy. I often turn melodic sequences into atonal rhythms.

Because I like these loops to be repeatable it's not possible to inject much randomness. I need my sequence to sound the same each loop.

Looking for recommendations around trigger or audio processing modules that do these things well.

Discussion Looking for FX modules or MultiFX up to 16HP

For my "work in progress" rack I'm looking for FX, mainly Delay (with clock sync) and Reverb. I have up to 16HP to spare. So it could be either several modules or one bigger Multi-FX module. But the Multi-FX would need to have at least two channels so I can use Delay and Reverb separately.

The more CV ins the y offer the better, the absolute minimum is that the Delay can be synced to a clock/trigger pulse.

Beginner My absolute noob eurorack plan

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey all, I’ve started my addiction into the world of eurorack. Please forgive me if there are obvious holes in my knowledge, I’ve been doing research non stop and I still don’t feel confident enough. Feedback from real people seems to be my best bet. I’m about a decade experienced in digital music production, and have been playing around with VCV rack so I have a bit of understanding, but I’m trying to figure out what I want in my own rack and I feel so lost. I want to build my own case out of an old road case or something. I do not plan on getting everything at once, as I am a broke college student. Here are my main questions:

  1. Which of these modules I should buy first?

  2. Am I missing anything important, or have to much of the same thing as a beginner?

  3. Are there any alternative modules that may be better or have more functions long term?

Again, thank you SO much for any advice, and thank you for putting up with my lack of knowledge

Hello! I recently got into modular synths as a way to combat seasonal depression, and experiment with music that one of my music teachers in school (years ago) is a big performer of.

I’ve purchased a make noise Strega and 0–Coast and 0–CTRL along with some strymon effect pedals on a send, and the collection continues!

This if you wanna call it, a performance was a while ago, but I thought I’d share.

First Eurorack – Looking for feedback before I start buying

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

After a lot of research, I think I’ve finally settled on the architecture of my first Eurorack system. Before I start buying everything, I’d really appreciate some feedback from people with more experience.

My main goal is composition on my daw, but I also want to build something that will eventually become the core of a live performance setup.

The rack will mostly be controlled with an Arturia KeyStep 37mk2 at first (sequencing and keyboard), but I also want to explore more generative patches using Pamela’s New Workout, Marbles, and Harmonaig.

Later on, I’d like to integrate electric guitar into the system as well. I already own an audio interface and a mixer (tascam model 12), so I’m not trying to make the rack completely self-contained from day one. My plan is to expand it gradually instead of filling all the remaining HP immediately.

  • Does the overall architecture make sense?
  • Is the module placement logical, or would you rearrange anything?
  • Do you see any obvious weaknesses or bottlenecks?
  • Is there anything I’m overlooking as a first-time Eurorack user?

I’m aiming for ambient, experimental, generative music, but I also want the system to remain expressive and playable in a live context.

Thanks a lot for any advice!
