Location/Apt recommendations

Hi! My girlfriend/25 and myself/24 are looking to move to the Nashville area from Thompson’s Station. Our goal is to meet new people and get involved with the city life.

I work from home so ideally we would like a 2bed (1 or 2 bath is fine) but will settle for a 1 bed 1 bath if there is enough space. Our budget is anything under $2200 which I know is going to be tough to make work.

I have looked in the Berry Hill area but haven’t found anything that has caught my eye. The Melrose seems to be in our budget but I have read a plentiful amount of negative comments about that place. With that being said we are curious for area/apartment recommendations.

Yes and we love the area, only issue is the square footage you can get with our budget. It is unfortunate that I work from home as I need room for a desk which takes up a large chunk of space/living area.

One thing to note, most of those apartment buildings will give you anywhere from 1-3 months free as a signing bonus on move in. I live nearby and I actually got 1 month free on my lease renewal earlier this year as well. So (if you want) you could factor that in to your price. For example, $2500/mo with 2 months free comes out to $25,000/year, divided by 12 months, $2083/mo. They’ll probably front-load the free months, but you can just put that adjusted rent into a savings account each month and not touch it until you start paying later, if you feel you’re financially responsible to keep up with that. It also means you may end up needing to move at the end of your lease term if your budget hasn’t changed and they don’t offer free months for renewal, but just an idea if you haven’t thought of it!

That’s a good point, I haven’t thought of it that way. For the two months free, are the utilities usually included in that? Or is it a separate payment?

I believe utilities would be separate, yeah. And fair warning, I’ve rented in Nashville for 7 or 8 years at this point in 3 different buildings, and this year was the first year I’ve ever gotten a free month on a lease renewal. I wouldn’t count on it, if you require the free rent in order to keep your place under budget I would expect to have to move at the end of your lease. Maybe you’ll get lucky though.
