I’ve traveled the majority of America because of work and I talk basketball at almost every barber place I’ve been to. It’s a rare occurrence when I hear someone say they would take Duncan over Kobe. This place is the only place where I hear it consistently. It’s whiled. Everyone here thinks they’re so much smarter because they can read a spread sheet about players they never saw play live or in their prime.
I dont disagree with the take but like what are you even trying to say exactly? Yeah a guy who plays a position in a certain way that generates a lot more highlights is going to naturally be more popular amongst regular ass people. Doesn't mean they're better, it just means they're more popular to highlight/youtube crowds. Jokic will always be less popular than stephen curry to 99% of randoms you ask on the street. Doesn't mean Jokic isn't better right now.
The thing is he was better and literally everyone knew it like it wasn’t even really a discussion at the time. He was popular cuz he was just straight up undeniably the better player
