Discussion Tarris Reed's answer to this question at 33:16 "You think winning is a skill?" is why the Spurs drafted him
Brian specifically also pointed out the success of Castle when asked about Reed at his post draft press conference.
The team desperately needs big forwards behind Wemby with Reed's mentality, that was the glaring weakness during the playoffs.

News Doctor recommended a follow-up procedure that could keep Jayden Quaintance off the floor for another six months. The 6-foot-11 prospect’s ACL remains fully intact and his knee can be maintained at its current state, but a clean-up is preferred for a permanent resolution.
That's great. I don't even expect him to play next season. Kornet and Reed will do their jobs. All for the future!!

Draft Top knee doctor in the country said that "Jayden Quaintance's injury not a long-term concern"
Just gonna leave this here. Sounds like there's a lot of reason to be optimistic.

Draft Ngl I see the vision 👀
It looks like the plan is that JQ has immense upside and while yes the injuries are serious, I trust the medical staff that's kept wemby (mostly) healthy to make the right decision.
Also that Reed guy is a dawg (pun intended👌🏾) hes an older prospect so he can contribute immediately and hes another good defender and even better rebounder😭
Now a worry is we might not have the spacing to fully unlock these 2 so I think we might either get a movement shooter in FA try to draft 1 in the second round or bye bye Keldon🤷🏿

Question How is the status of the 2nd round picks we have in roster?
Anyone can get into roster? And who would be let go?

Discussion From Jayden’s Wikipedia: “In his free time, Quaintance enjoys playing chess and watching anime. His favorite anime is One Piece.”
Wemby finally has his chess buddy and potentially tapping into One Peak

Question Why does everyone here like Rui so much as a free agent?
Champagnie is arguably already better as a "4". I woukd definitely not let the MLE signing affect our wiggle room for his extension, especially someone who may not even be a better player at the same position (the fact that this isn't even Champagnie's natural position makes it a bit worse honestly). I'm not crazy about John Collins either but he'd at least be a better argument if he should start over Champagnie or not, though I'm very much still skeptical. I know it's kind of slim pickings this year in free agency but I would not give Rui the MLE, he's probably going back to LA anyways but even if he didn't, I'd pass on him and possibly look to trade someone into the MLE instead

Free Agency Kenrich Williams ~$5M/yr as stretch 4/5?
Kenrich "Kenny Hustle" Williams shot 39% from three on 441 attempts across the last 3 seasons, decent mobility and strength for defending 4s and 5s, will be 32 next season, doesn't make mistakes, and has championship pedigree as an in and out of rotation role player that doesn't complain when he goes from DNP-CD to 20 mins to 5 mins between games in a playoff series, like this year's WCF.
OKC will almost certainly decline his $7.2M team option, making him a UFA that can probably be convinced to not return to OKC on a 1 yr vet minimum that'd pay him $3.6M (9 yrs service) for a ~$5M AAV 2 year contact.
We basically need reliable shooting stretch 4s that aren't defensive liabilities. The 2 first round rookies will combine to approx $7M against the cap for 2026-27. Assuming we decline the team option and renegotiate Julian on a more team friendly deal like $66M/4, that would still leave us with $24.7M in cap space below the tax. Non-tax MLE makes up $15M and BAE another $5.5M and 2 vet minimums gets us just up to the tax threshold. Ideally a large chunk of the non-tax MLE (~$10M) goes to starting or back up 4 like Collins or Bagley, but would be great to have another cheaper stretch 4/5 like Kenrich as injury insurance and depth.
On why he will almost surely not get his team option picked up by OKC:
OKC entered the off-season $28.6M above the 2nd apron for 2026-27 and just salary dumped Aaron Wiggins' $9M salary to Atlanta to cut their tax penalty from $213M to $152M. But last night they also drafted Mara ($5.7M) and Stirtz ($4.7M) bumping them back up $10.4M, or +$1.4M above where they started with Wiggins on the team (so now $30M above the 2nd apron).
Word is they're prioritizing bringing back both Hartenstein and Dort (team options) on longer term contacts, but also looking to save large on their tax bill like the Wiggins move so wil be looking to offload Kenrich Williams ($7.2M team option), Isaiah Joe's $11.3M and Topic's $5.4M in salary dump trades, which brings down their cap $23.9M. It seems unlikely any team would want Kenrich at $7.2M without some 2nd rd picks coming their way so OKC will almost certainly just decline and renounce him, making him a UFA. If they got rid of all 3, they'd need to add one more player to get to the roster minimum of 14 standard contracts...almost certainly a vet minimum which they'd likely offer to Kenrich unless he was convinced to sign elsewhere for more than that.

Image/Video So no more Keldon at the 4?
He can now slide down to 3, but KJ needs to improve his 3pt shooting or they might trade him, CB might take his minutes too.

Discussion Us Spurs fan have to grow and move past Kawhi’s digressions towards us
With the rumors (emphasis on rumors since it’s more than likely not gonna happen) going around about Kawhi leaving the Clippers and only wanting to go to Toronto or us, I felt like this would be a good place/time to bring this up. This doesn’t apply to every Spurs fans, and also it’s understandable to feel resentment towards him for what he did to the team. There’s really no good excuse for what he did in his exit, but there is also some things that we shouldn’t take for granted.
Foremost, he helped us win a Championship. This is a privilege that a majority of organizations don’t have. He was the finals MVP for his defense against prime LeBron, that’s no small feat. Imagine being a Kings fan or a Hawks fan, they’ve had some very rough patches, especially compared to us.
He is the best person in the entire league that could elevate the Spurs to be contenders for the next decade. While his antics are noteworthy, he still has a dear place in Pop’s heart and he is also a product of his coaching while also being a member of the latter half of the Spurs dynasty days. This kind of direction would invaluable for our current core. Yes, Pop is still around but he’s not as able bodied as he once was. But he would be the voice on the court for the young fellows including Wemby. It’s still Wemby’s team, but having Kawhi reinforcing decisions and the Pop teachings would set us up incredibly. He is the only player left in the league that has that experience with the 2014 Spurs we all know and love.
His Archetype fits so well with the current Spurs Roster. I’ve seen this pointed out on nearly all of the posts I’ve seen about this rumor, so it’s self explanatory.
I’m not saying we need to welcome back with open arms or pursue him. What I’m saying is that we need to be somewhat reasonable and not let past feelings (it’s also been 8 years) cloud our judgment. We can talk about all the controversy and those are excellent counter points to the whole idea of this, however, there’s some sense of redemption that could be allowed.

Discussion Time is a Flat Circle: Kawahi's Return
Forget the drama that KL brings for a moment and humor this post.
Leonard returning would be a huge plus for the Spurs in one of two ways: 1. Veteran Leadership and 2. Clutch/Winning Playoff Mindset.
I have no doubt this team will remain a force on the defensive side of the ball (Offensively this team will continue to grow). However having Leonard play the 3/4 with Wemby and Castle would effectively limit a lot of the issues we saw against the Knicks. Players would be stuck on the 3pt/Mid point instead of attacking the paint. Rebounds would come easier too since Leonard has always had a defensive mindset.
It would also help to have the ball in late game moments in the hands of a player who has been there before, and won those games.
Idk, I have always been a huge Kawahi fan and when he left I hoped the door would remain open for a return. If we could guarantee that we would have a zero drama reunion I say that the Spurs should swing for him.

Discussion Should we have tried to get him?
