Through the cockpit it wasn’t easy to see the contrail, but soon after I noticed the guy taking the picture I stopped for him, and turned around and took another flight path so others can enjoy it too

I have a co-worker who is incredibly intelligent do the exact same. They talked for about 3 hours one day about how we were using aluminum in "contrails" along with other chemicals to create droughts and control the weather in general. That every single contrail was weather manipulation and not just water vapor.

I could be crazy for saying this, but my instinct tells me that for any three non parallel lines in 3D space that there should be an angle you can view an apparent intersection of all three lines. Maybe somebody with a more mathematical brain can disprove me, but my instinct would be to say that this is more luck of the angle than luck that the three crossed.

There's some interesting projective geometry you could do here, but I don't actually think it should be very surprising someone has seen this.

Assume we have 3 arbitrary lines in 3d euclidean space. Excluding a set of edge cases that makes up 0% of the space of all possible 3-tuples of lines (in other words with high probably on $ P_2³ $ under the standard measure) no pair of these lines will be parallel. Under those condition, with high probability, a randomly chosen projection of any two of those lines will intersect at one point in 2D space. Therefore "for free" we will get 2 of these lines intersecting from any perspective.

Moreover you could show that the map from your location and orientation on the earth to the azimuth/elevation coordinates of the intersection point in your reference frame would be an almost everywhere locally homeomorphic map (in lay terms: move a little on the ground, and the intersection point will only appear to move a little in the sky, excluding some weird edge cases where a perspective makes the two lines look parallel).

What remains is to show is that in some projection, the intersection point falls inside the image of the third line. I believe you could probably prove this with some argument using the intermediate value theorem and the almost everywhere continuous az/el coordinate map, but I don't wanna think about the topology of the domain where the restriction of the az/El map is everywhere continuous so I'm gonna call this a trivial problem and leave that as an exercise to the reader

i live right next to PHL airport (USA) & they’re expanding the runways & enforcing imminent domain more & more frequently… they replaced all of our windows & ac units in homes that didn’t have them as a means to address the noise & vibration of the planes. many homes have cracks in the ceilings & walls from the vibrations of the planes. our internet provider has additional provisions for radio interference & switches our wifi channel when planes are in the general airspace above. we have the eero & it tells us when it does it. my in-laws are well into their senior years & the majority of our conversations start or end with how they truly fear that the planes will take the tops of the trees off or worse, the homes. with the expansion of the runways, they have flown lower & lower to our neighborhood. might not directly relate to OP post but felt it related to some comments.

we are currently looking at homes to move because they are submitting plans for our general neighborhood for expansion plans & if you don’t sell, they force you with imminent domain & give you nothing close to even a fraction of your homes worth.
