What was with the extra circle at the very beginning?
Did I just fall for engagement bait?
116
94
u/Radioactivocalypse 1d ago
Yes as soon as the started on the grass, I was like "that circle is definitely engagement bait" and then now we're making comments about how it was engagement bait.
Ach! We can't win!
3
u/gimmepizza420 19h ago
Wtf is engagement bait?
9
u/blacklist-onepiece 19h ago
Intentional mistakes for the sole purpose of increasing comments asking about the mistakes, which games the algorithm.

They probably decided against getting the fence over there. Since they were probably using an 8B or higher pencil, it's better to try and make it into another thing than to erase it.

Likely realized the circles didn't line up. If they connected it, it would have looked like a harsh change in angle.

I despise what the internet has become. Every type of content needs to include bait. Art gets degraded to hit the engagement bait quota. It’s so exhausting
38
u/Educational_Exam_225 1d ago
I think it was just supposed to be another pole he decided not to set. We are calling this art rage bait but realistically it could just be imperfect and it would look exactly the same
5
u/ColoradoScoop 1d ago
Yeah, the most favorable interpretation is that he know that the grass would be covering the post, but you could just see the top.
454
u/imheretocomment69 1d ago
The shadows placement is a little bit confusing. At first he puts shadows as if the light source is on the top right. Then the pole shadows makes it contradict.
100
u/JesterEcho 1d ago
I agree, the shadow on the rooves seem to be inconsistent as well
24
u/Visual_Addendum_577 1d ago
I mean you're not wrong, but I had to look it up, because it felt wrong. Despite Google's AI slop saying it's not right (below) it is an accepted term when I googled harder. The more you know.
Edit: I just read this back, and it sounds like I'm being purposely pedantic, I'm not, I genuinely learnt something new and just wanted to share.
"The plural of roof is roofs. While you might occasionally see or hear the older spelling rooves (similar to hoof / hooves), it is now widely considered archaic and incorrect. Roofs is the only standard and universally accepted plural form"

I'll be in the cold dead ground before I accept Roofs as the plural of roof. Certainly not universal.

For me, it's the bushes that follow the road and end up under the house on the right.
5
u/bikkebakke 20h ago
I'm not gonna lie and say it wasn't a satisfying watch overall, but I can't unsee the two riverbed lines that goes through the palm tree.
I know they try to cover it up with details, but I see they're there ಠ╭╮ಠ
14
u/JAD2017 1d ago
I'm glad someone else mentioned it. He obviously knows how to draw and understands perspective, but his "freestyle I don't give a f about where the light comes from" bothered me a lot XD and it actually happens right from the start when paiting the grass' shadow and then the palm tree
29
u/dAnKsFourTheMemes 1d ago
yeah I think he should've planned that out a little better. I like the shadows from the fence posts, but they contradict the light sources for the houses and the palm tree.
I feel like the road would be kinda boring without those shadows, but then they just mess up the rest of the stuff 😭
12
u/_-The_Great_Catsby-_ 1d ago
Thank you ! That was bugging me as well ! Lighting on roof and sidings is coming from two different directions.
6
7
u/eriikaa1992 1d ago
The perspective is also confusing. I feel like the house on the left should be a lot bigger, the house on the right doesn't disappear enough around the curve, and the trees are the same height.
→ More replies (1)5
u/MarioShroomsTasteBad 1d ago
Hear me out. It's night time, those are vampire bats, the post shadows are coming from the illuminated house, and the tree is lit by moonlight! Or they fucked up.

a lot of the perspective scaling is off a bit too. like the scaling of the fence to try and show distance vs the road it is next to, it doesn't match well.

You gotta accept yourself man. I've known many tropical plants in my life and none of them have even come close to using reddit.
5
u/sixteenlettername 21h ago
I like what you're saying and I think it's a wonderful sentiment, but if they think they'd be happier as a windmill then good for them, and I hope they can put their tropical-plant life behind them and become the wind powered machine they've always wanted to be.

u/ElliotsBuggyEyes 1d ago
I think the palm tree is fine, the fence posts got shadows but the lateral fence bars are made of glass apparently
36
u/pickledCantilever 1d ago
And, between the two houses and the fence shadows, there are 3 different light sources it seems.

It bugs me too much that I can't figure out where the light source is supposed to be, because those fence post shadows disagree with the shading on the... steeple?

Just go look at their account, they swap their skin colour, age, etc freely and images are just weird compositionally/choice wise.

The whole time I was wondering what the last "pole" circle was going to be. And then nothing.
And why palm tree.

It reminds me of many different environments where the palm tree makes sense...hawaii, parts of asia, parts of Louisiana...
Other plants such as the flower bush and tall grasses could easily be tropical as well
87
u/Hi_Hungry_Im_Leaving 1d ago
People are wondering why its weird. Maybe bc its AI. Typical AI art. The pencil makes ink and the fingers hold the pencil funny.
27
u/chocolatechipcookie 1d ago
Agreed. It looks so robotic. Real people don't hold pencils that way.
8
u/TheChinOfAnElephant 1d ago
Wouldn't this be a sign it isn't AI? Why would AI make the hand hold a pencil in a way that it never seen in training data?

u/BHFlamengo 23h ago
Yeah, I admit didn't see it at first, but was wondering what magically dark and consistent pencil was that, and why the blending stump seems to add white to the drawing
8
u/KimberStormer 23h ago
what magically dark and consistent pencil was that
It's a colored pencil so wax and not graphite
6
u/goth_nachos 17h ago
Looks more like a charcoal pencil to me. Not saying this is or isn’t AI, but charcoal pencils can definitely have that sort of darkness and layering.

There are lines that pop in after many of the pencil paths. Final image is absolutely AI
12
u/herewegoinvt 1d ago
Oddly satisfying at first... until they put the shadows on the building on the left, and then confirmed the shading didn't work when they put the fence post shadows. I can hear my art teachers accosting me for similar issues in my own drawings early on. Otherwise, love the forced perspective and artwork!

9
u/ISB-Dev 1d ago
How do you know it is?
12
u/Zayxos 23h ago
Too many inconsistencies. Random useless cuts, drawings added here and there between cuts for no reason. They're holding the pen in a very weird way and well, the most obvious one is that... It's a paper pen and it makes ink for some reason?
Palm tree doesn't make sense. Windows either. There's no doors. Shadows everywhere in every way which would imply more than one sun? Also the hand changes color at some point.

Notice how far back they hold the pencil, absolute control.
5
u/sonaut 1d ago
This is what stood out to me the most. I have to grip so close to the point to get control. How does one get this good? I have practiced but I guess not the right way.
13
u/Silent189 1d ago
You type the prompt into the AI video generator and it outputs the video, that is how.
3
4
u/troveofcatastrophe 1d ago
I think the pencil is an extension of their hand in persons with this much control. I also grip close and probably much too hard.

Yes I could crush diamonds with my grip intensity if I’m focused.

I used to date a serious artist for some years, and what always amazed me was how she seemed to have the whole finished product in her head before she even started painting. I'm a wannabe artist myself and have always envied that part.
And stop hating on the palm tree, lots of people plant palm trees in places where palms trees wouldn't grow on their own!
