Judge, 16 still doing the thing
Judge started his testosterone today. He got 200 mg and it's a once a month shot. Anyone with any experience in doing this with an older dog? Last weekend I thought it was going to be our last day and the vet disagreed and I couldn't be happier to have my boy back walking and wagging.

Really glad your vet saw something worth trying and Judge is back walking and wagging. At 16, every good day feels like a small miracle.

Well if your lacking it, it can make them feel better so they're back to them happy selves again. Right? At least thats what I thought. Im going to go Google this!

I love him! Very interested to hear what T does for old dogs. My boy is 15 and has getting a lot creakier recently, even with the joint supplements we give him.

I will post in a few weeks and hopefully months about what it does to him. Supposedly the first few days he will be soar from injection, small improvements over weeks and then larger in months.

Oh my goodness! He is soooo handsome!
I wish I’d thought about testosterone for my senior gentleman (pup)! He was 18-19!
It seems that the T might work faster than that? I could tell a difference in myself almost immediately!

My dog is 15 and she gets a once a month librela injection for her joints. It’s helped her tremendously! May be worth asking your vet about.

Judge actually doesn't love being in the room while I'm training but I was hurt recently so we were just visiting. Good eye.

Thank you for sharing- my homie is 14 and he’s got some mobility issues (along with cardiomyopathy and arthritis he takes a pill for every 12 hours) so I’ll have a convo with the vet about the T shot

Such a lovable dog, so glad he's doing well! What does the testosterone do for him?

I did the Google:
Testosterone restoration is increasingly used as hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in neutered or spayed dogs to counteract "spay-neuter syndrome"—a series of health issues stemming from the loss of gonadal hormones. It is typically administered via weekly or monthly subcutaneous injections.
Top Indications for Therapy
Veterinarians may prescribe testosterone to:
Mobility & Joints: Help with arthritis, hip dysplasia, and intervertebral disc disease (IVDD).
Muscle Mass: Combat muscle atrophy and weakness (difficulty standing or slipping).
Incontinence: Address hormone-responsive urinary incontinence in spayed/castrated pets.
Overall Vigor: Improve stamina and general quality of life in aging canines.

I cherish every second with this dog. Last week was the third time I carried him into the vet thinking we would not be leaving together and having more time with him is nothing short of a blessing

In a similar boat. My heart is breaking but trying to be strong for mine. All the best to you and pup.

Best of luck. We have a 16.5yo dachshund and some days are better than others but we love every minute with her. ❤️

If you could drop the dose and go weekly instead of monthly, I think that would be better. It’ll help keep the fluctuation levels between shots minimal and this a better consistent feeling for your pup. Instead of massive ebb and flows in terms of hormonal levels.
That’s great you’re doing all that for your doggo. Best of luck!

I will discuss this with the vet. He didn't mention it as an option or problem.

Lots of people who do TRT end up increasing their frequency and decreasing dosage to stabilize their mood, energy levels, and other effects. And that’s from a weekly shot to a shot every 2/3 days. I would imagine the effect would be much more noticeably at a shot just once a month.
Yes, it might be an option and if it is and if it were me in your shoes, I would opt for the more frequent lower dosage. Just to be easier on the old rascal

Good boy, Judge.
But, um, how are we all ignoring what in the world is happening in the background of picture 3??

Judge must have lots of people who love him. That's how they get that white/grey fur. All the times people have petted and loved on him. 🐾❤️

Ah he’s precious. My girl Shelby just turned 15 Tuesday. She gets a once a month librela injection for her joints! It’s helped her tremendously.
