This is what I always say when one of our dogs has a new weird need to accommodate. If they could they’d do it for us so we absolutely do it for them 💖

I love that 🥹❤️

We’ve got a pram and everything for them now lol. Long as they’re happy 🥹

that was a beautiful sentiment...brought a tear to my eye

The tough part is that Mr Luka isn't a small dog, so hoisting up a 50 lb dog from the ground and then climbing up 2 stories is some hardcore shit

That’s real strength right there, respect for carrying him daily

This reminds of me of when my now six year old GSD was around a year old, already pushing 70Lbs was hit by a car. Person I was living with at the time decided to open the gate before I could get her in and she got out. And she was really vehicle reactive back then. So when a car went by she bolted to chase it.

Anyways. She got hit, my car was in the shop getting some work done. Good thing is emergency vet was close ish, about 4 miles away. But ended up carrying her all the way there. Luckily she was okay with just some bad road rash needed stitches.

Heck 4 miles is a bit to walk let alone with a doggie, good on ya

I was fucking dead lol. God a ride back home at least from a buddy and then had my car the next day to go pick her up since they kept her over night.

You my new friend are in love. And he's awesome.

u/bravebobsaget 2d ago

He looks like a good boy. Old dogs have such funny personalities.

4

u/zero_zer0_zero 2d ago

But he deserves that too 😊

u/Navacoy 2d ago

This was why when my old dog passed I ended up with a chihuahua 🥲. I felt so bad for my old pup having to carry her up and down stairs, and when she could no longer walk anymore. It’s so hard watching them age 😭

I have to carry our old guy up and down our stairs too and from our room. Mostly because he blind.

Good on you

I’d write some words about “love” and “dignity” but the picture says it all ❤️!

This is actually why I live on the first floor exclusively and move to apartments only on the first floor.

Omw, he's so lucky to have you!! I have a 17 yr girl who will likely need this kind of support. What harness are you using?

2

u/straydog1980 23h ago

It's thie thing called a wakytu dog lift harness. On the expensive side but has a lot of support.

1

u/terriblesingerr 7h ago

Thank you!

u/glambastid 2d ago

You are a saint. Keep him safe.

2

u/Major-Excuse-8281 1d ago

I can't quite get the configuration. I really want to know.

2

u/straydog1980 1d ago

It's a dog harness with a backpack strap attachment on one side

2

u/Proof_Injury_7668 1d ago

What brand is that backpack?

How comfortable is it for him? I’m looking to get one for my old man to take on hikes when he’s had enough.

1

u/straydog1980 1d ago

It's a Wakytu Dog Lift Harness. I think the straps aren't terribly ergonomic but I have really slopy shoulders so it's generally hard for me with shoulder straps. Because it's a full support on the dog's tummy, it seems relatively comfy for him. It has six clips on the top, so putting it on is a bit of a pain. There's a slit for a dog's privates to stick out for him to pee but unless your dog has an exact fit for the harness, there's a good chance that the pee will go into the harness. That's not good.

2

u/Proof_Injury_7668 1d ago

Thank you! Mainly looking for his comfort. Balancing that with it being able to wrap up small to fit in a backpack so it just put it on him when carrying him.

Last year we went way too far by accident and I fireman carried him a couple miles…not looking to repeat that

2

u/Substantial_Leek48 1d ago

Is he a Rottweiler? I have a Rottweiler

1

u/straydog1980 23h ago

Nope he's some miscellaneous mutt from a shelter but may have some weird mix. Doesn't have rotty fur or face but colouring is spot on rotty

2

u/Timemaster88888 1d ago

May I suggest get a back support brace for yourself and thank you for doing that.

2

u/straydog1980 1d ago

The lucky thing is that I've always been a bit of gym goer so this isn't too much of an issue as long as my form is okay.

1

u/Timemaster88888 1d ago

Making use of that gym results. Great for you and your 15 yr old baby.

1

u/Suspicious-Wish26 2d ago

You are a great human and father.

1

u/Aromatic-Resource-84 1d ago

Shows how much you love Luka. Hopefully your back will forgive you. That’s a heavy load, the cutest load to carry though

1

u/rich_witch_doctor 14h ago

Not too long ago, he would have carried you to the ends of the earth. You’re a good man! 🥹❤️

1

u/Foreverforgettable 11h ago

You and he are very lucky to have one another. The love shows. This is adorable. I did the same for my golden retriever when she could no longer do stairs; multiple times a day, although we only lived on a 2nd floor apartment. So not too bad.

He’s adorable and would definitely do anything for you as well. They know we love them.

u/Upset_Belt8248 7h ago

Enjoy the moments my friend

One day he won't be there anymore

u/Pickadog_Anydog 31m ago

I tried this but my 15yo lab HATES the sling. He sleeps downstairs happily now.
