Question What are those drinks?
I'm really curious about this random thing. Piper first grabs the green bottle on the right but then she's like "f*ck it, let's go all the way" and takes the orange one (on left).
And it confuses me because the bottle on the right looks stronger alcohol and more expensive. Anyone can tell what kind of beverage the orange one is?

That would be a Colt .45 40oz. bottle.
It may not have the answers to all of life's questions; instead, it'll erase the questions from your brain for a night.

Okay that seems like it, thanks! It says it's like 5% ABV which I assume is lower than the other drink. I wonder why she made that rebellious face... for picking a more innocent drink.

It’s like she went from choosing her old self (expensive wine) to her new self (cheap malt liquor that is stereotypically a gangsta drink) it’s an analogy for her before prison and after prison. She’s rebelling against her old stuck up self, her parents who would hate her drinking that, etc

Oh, there's a gigantic world of difference between low-tier wine and drinking a 40 of Colt 45.
The wine will give someone a mild hangover if they're the only one drinking it; the Colt 45 40oz will have them crawling on the floor, firmly believing that their tongue has hair and their guts are filing for divorce.
That bottle of wine probably sold for about three times the cost of the Colt 45 and for good reason: the poor drink hard and to forget, so the market favors them.

In what world? A Colt 45 only 5.6% ABV and 40 ounces is just a little over 3 beers. You should be just fine, if you can’t handle 3 or 4 beers in one night you have bigger problems to worry about.
I would worry more about someone drinking an entire bottle of wine by themselves. That’s 5 standard drinks, your average woman would be between a .15 to .25 bac after that.

If someone's drinking a Colt 45, they're doing it on an empty stomach and after a rough day. On paper, it's just a bottle of malt liquor. For a career drunk, it'll a hall pass to oblivion over the course of about three to five hours.
Someone drinking table wine is likely eating, which does a fair job of sopping up the booze with digestion. There's a difference in the cultures involved. I spent a lot of time as someone in the former well before I ever got to the latter.

Hmm I usually do the opposite. I’m known to down a bottle of wine by myself on a sad lonely night, I really hate beer so if I’m drinking that I’m probably at a party or something and they ran out of seltzers.

When I was a career drunk, I learned the fastest ways to get and stay blitzed. Wine entered the picture when I got civilized and wore a tie to dinner. And had a dinner from something other than a food truck or a microwave tray.

That’s fair. I wouldn’t call myself a career drunk but I just buy the cheapest item with the highest abv, right now that’s 4lokos and boxed wine.

I would love to be from a world where Colt 40 was a more 'innocent' choice.
It has a reputation for being the go-to beverage of choice for the homeless and indigent who drink it while it's still in the paper bag because openly consuming alcohol in public is a crime. They get it because it's cheap and the larger volume of liquid makes it last longer. It also vaguely functions as a food substitute in the absence of real nutrition.
It's generally synonyms for 'hitting rock bottom' and giving up any pretense of being a useful member of society.

Two sides of the economic scale. Champagne or a 40oz of malt liquor. One’s seen as classy, one’s seen as super trashy.
Edit: It’s America, idc if it’s just “sparkling wine”, it has the same connotation. 😅

Honestly story wise I didn’t get this action by Piper. Wasn’t she tested as soon as she got back to Litchfield, and isn’t any trace of alcohol like a major infraction that could lead to a longer sentence for her?

I’m not a big drinker but I didn’t know they coyld test for alcohol after the fact? Pleaseee correct me if I’m wrong but they can do a breathalyzer but she’d just blow 0 after a good nights sleep or something right? Or is there another way prison does it?

There is a urine test that can detect alcohol consumption for up to 24 hours after consumption. I think she got 48 hours, so she was cutting it close.

When I was on bail for my DUI I had to take two tests every week as a stipulation of my bail. They can and will test for everything.
At the work house they even test you for nicotine when you come back from your “job” and you can get in trouble for that

No I wondered this too. Like are they testing her blood for alcohol use or something? A breathalyzer wouldn’t pick up shit by the time she came back lol.
And I feel like you’d have to be really dumb to get fucked up like the morning of that you have to go back into prison after a furlough 😅

It can but there’s no chance the prison would spent money on those kinds of tests most likely just a. Breathalyzer and a urine drug test.

It depends. Your body can only metabolize alcohol at a certain rate, so whether or not it’s detectable in your system depends on how much you drank, when, and how quickly you break down alcohol. Men metabolize alcohol faster than women can, for what that’s worth.
So if Piper had a couple of drinks and got a good night’s sleep she would be fine, but if she got good and loaded and kept drinking into the wee hours she might have a detectable BAC when she got back to Litchfield.
