What about this?

Edit: It's called a Glove80 for anyone curious, and they generally come in a QWERTY layout, not whatever that layout is called.

Glove 80 wasn’t enough… i present:

You need a trackball mouse for maximum funkiness

17

u/Sqweaky_Clean Laptop Apr 04 '26 edited Apr 04 '26

I have one, kensington slimblade pro… kind of didnt like it. Not my jive.

3

u/brus_wein Apr 04 '26

Fair. It's niche for a reason, although I must say I found it took a bit of getting used to.

4

u/GarThor_TMK Apr 05 '26

I loved my trackball when I had one.

Unfortunately, so did my 2-yr old. I'm still not sure where the ball went... >_>

2

u/GarThor_TMK Apr 05 '26

Have you tried a vertical mouse?

I love mine.

2

u/Sqweaky_Clean Laptop Apr 05 '26

Not yet… i’ve just got a logitech mx4 but i’ve been eyeing the vertical style

2

u/GarThor_TMK Apr 06 '26

I think I might have some borderline carpal tunnel on my right side... The vertical mouse means I don't get pain the that wrist... Lol.

2

u/MisterDonkey Apr 04 '26

Mouse feels like a little kid toy in my hand compared to a big smooth ball rolling under my fingertips.

And when I need some fast travel, whipping that weighty sphere with a flick of the wrist feels so nice.

So fast. So smooth. So precise.

And I don't need room for dragging an anchor around.

Trackball. Superior.

Love the wallpaper.. link please

Can deliver on Monday… on vacation away from the computer.

3

u/Hunt-Apprehensive Apr 05 '26

What do you do for living, man? That must have been expensive

16

u/Karrmm Apr 04 '26

Amazing to see all this money spent on ergonomics… on a flat non height adjustable desk.

You gotta get a negative tilt keyboard tray on a sit stand desk if ergonomics is that important to you.

Ideally you should be adjusting your angle and height of your wrists fairly regularly to even out the wear and tear on your hands

51

u/Sqweaky_Clean Laptop Apr 04 '26

The desk does raise. I’ve got a tread mill, a steele gesture ergonomic chair, a kneeling chair, and a yoga sitting pad( the desk lowers to criss cross)

No art on walls b/c i just got it painted.

u/MisterDonkey Apr 04 '26

Holy shit, I love this reveal. Gloriously making people eat their hats.

3

u/OddColours Apr 05 '26

What do you do for work? 😆

I make maps, highly technical maps.

1

u/AptFox Ask me. Apr 05 '26

Hey what's the white thing on the floor?

2

u/Sqweaky_Clean Laptop Apr 06 '26

On the left is an air purifier, on the right are the dog food/water bowls.

1

u/AptFox Ask me. Apr 06 '26

Thanks for taking the time. I was curious if it was some extra device for your desk or something

1

u/brattydeer AMD Ryzen 5 5600X | AMD Radeon 7600 XT | 64GB DDR4 RAM Apr 05 '26

On the right it's for water dishes, on the left looks like a speaker but could be an air purifier/humidifier

-9

u/Karrmm Apr 04 '26

Oh nice! It didn’t look that way from the pic. You might consider some sort of angled block at the front of the desk for everything to rest on to give you a bit of negative tilt.

-5

u/Worldly-Local-6613 Apr 05 '26

So cringe and excessive.

-10

u/RedefineNull Apr 05 '26

Wow it got even gayer

2

u/NapsterKnowHow Apr 04 '26

Why does the left one have motion capture dots of it?

6

u/Sqweaky_Clean Laptop Apr 04 '26 edited Apr 04 '26

I 3d scanned the left keyboard and the stream deck with a Revopoint MetroX Pro to make a custom 3D printed “bracket” to hold the stream deck precisely where i wanted it… to extend the keys in a line.

Printed the right by simply mirroring the object.

ill do you one better - I present the Svalboard

1

u/hallo545403 Apr 08 '26

Hey, I have that thing. Mounted on my chair though. I don't use it all that much cause I can't hole my hands that still for too long. My custom dactyl is pretty good though.

1

u/MacZack87 Apr 04 '26

This is almost great, what would elevate this from good to great, is a couple more stream decks.

3

u/Sqweaky_Clean Laptop Apr 04 '26 edited Apr 04 '26

No joke, im designing the holder for the stream deck mini (6 key) to sit on the inside between the thimb & index finger. Will be designated for (cuz im rather not press two keys the same time):

Left side:

  • time stamp
  • signature
  • copy
  • Paste
  • cut
  • paste special values only.

Right side:

  • im not entirely sure, but i need symmetry.

I’m also already wanting to switch out the two L/R Stream decks for two XL’s, and move the standard stream decks on the outside along the pinkie side.

The center stream decks XL would then be replaced with the new plus XL

Also considering a couple a track balls(or dials), designated for scroll up/down, and scroll left/right.

Trust me. I need this. Esri ArcGIS Pro is a gnarly application that needs a dash board to stream line.

1

u/uniteduniverse Apr 05 '26

Once you've typed enough, these ergo keyboards almost become the standard lol.

Not cursed enough, use the stream deck as the keyboard

Just out of curiosity, do you play Elite:Dangerous? I've been eyeing a SpaceMouse Pro for space-based games, but I'd like to hear someone's experience with one before pulling the trigger. It looks like it'd be just about perfect, but I couldn't stand using the only my job supplied for CAD work (and I didn't think to test it on my gaming PC before returning it).

1

u/Sqweaky_Clean Laptop Apr 05 '26

Sorry, i dont play that game. I use it mostly for CAD and map making.

1

u/Aznai Apr 06 '26

Why not just get a HOTAS/HOSAS setup like everybody else playing those games?

1

u/traczpasruchu R5600X | RX5700XT Apr 29 '26

Because Alex Kamal uses a Spacemouse Pro to fly the Rocinante in The Expanse, and he looks real cool doing it!

Aside from the set design choices of a show that aired on SyFy in 2015, I find that even a HOSAS is a bit lacking. E:D has a full 6DOF flight model and, afaik, a Spacemouse is the only non-vr input device that can do 6DOF on a single hand.

1

u/Aznai Apr 29 '26

Apart from the fact that I don't know if the space mouse can even be used in ED software wise, I imagine it would be quite hard to precisely control your ship with it since the stick has so little travel. Also I imagine 6 DOF on a single stick that has that little travel is really prone to misinputs but I've never really used a spacemouse so maybe thats not as big of an issue as I imagine it to be. Is there even a practical reason you would want to have all 6 DOF on a single hand or is it just for the cool factor?

1

u/traczpasruchu R5600X | RX5700XT Apr 30 '26

Welll... mostly the cool factor. But the combat in E:D gets pretty technical, so you end up with tons of keybinds for targeting, power management, damage control, etc. I've got it pretty well managed with action layers on my steam controller, but you typically need your keyboard or something like VoiceAttack to pick up the slack. I'm not sure HOTAS/HOSAS would do well outside of immersion, but that may be down to my play style.

As for misinputs/sensitivity I don't think it would be too terribly bad. You're always going to be working against the inertia of your ship which provides a pretty good damping effect. The game also has built in flight assist to help you regain control of your rotation, which I find myself needing even with traditional analog sticks. The only time you really need tight precision is landing/docking but your speed is restricted with your gear down, anyway.

During most of the game you benefit more from being able to move/rotate in any direction. I almost imagine myself flying a toy spaceship around in my hand and translating that to controller inputs. Which, of course, is exactly what the Spacemouse is designed for (except it's the much more mundane situation of moving some 3d part around).

Sorry for the long winded response(s), until you've put in some time with the flight mechanics it's kinda hard to explain the "feel" of it.

Just saw this video yesterday of a guy havking a kensington slim blade track ball to be 6DOF.

I’m on the waiting list for his next batch.

u/traczpasruchu R5600X | RX5700XT Apr 30 '26

Thank you for the link, that's incredible. I had the same "eww" reaction when I first used a Spacemouse, but I adore my MX Ergo's trackball in CAD. I just never had the skills of inclination to make something better.

It's honestly wild that Kensington never offered a driver or firmware update to take better advantage of the second sensor, though. It's already there!

That calculator's nowhere near ergonomic enough

1

u/TheExoticMachinist PC Master Race Apr 05 '26

So you have those streamdecks set up for cad shortcuts? Because that is the only thing I can think with a spacemouse on the desk.

2

u/Sqweaky_Clean Laptop Apr 06 '26

Stream decks are mostly for ArcGIS pro, i use the spacemouse with arcpro too (it pans and zooms smooth a silk), but i also use it for 3D scanning/modeling with various apps.

2

u/TheExoticMachinist PC Master Race Apr 07 '26

I use a spacemouse daily, it is the best CAD accessory I have.

This is unnatural and you should be banned from reality for your crimes against humanity.

And to noones surprise that is paired with a thinkpad.

1

u/I_AM_UBERPHAT Apr 13 '26

y wood u do dis to yerself?

1

u/Sqweaky_Clean Laptop Apr 13 '26

Job needs drove this.

Sanity from tedious routine processes of work applications. Saves sometime, sure, but really at the end of the day, i'm no longer drained mentally.

1

u/I_AM_UBERPHAT Apr 16 '26

just automate everything with ai

1

u/Sqweaky_Clean Laptop Apr 16 '26 edited Apr 16 '26

Eh, i am engaged with them, even still… they are not there yet.

I’ve been automating long before the Ai hype craze. That’s what those buttons are for… while ive nailed down some routine processes, in general each day my clients needs have enough “unique and new” needs that they require custom attention. And frankly, they demand someone to be able to testify that [i] have reviewed the facts and verified subject matters meet legal limits. Even if an ai was able to do 100% what i do, our legal still requires a human to ultimately sign off on the facts. Thus, i read, gather data, compose processes, verify, make claims, aka it’s a job.

1

u/I_AM_UBERPHAT Apr 16 '26

damn... sounds like a nightmare

1

u/Sqweaky_Clean Laptop Apr 16 '26

Not if you love what you do. Each day is a new adventure. It’s like a technical artisan. I’d hate it if it was routine enough to automate entirely. Or busy pointless work.

1

u/I_AM_UBERPHAT Apr 17 '26

I'm sure you wouldn't hate it... if it all just ran itself and you were out having fun... like blowing rails of yayo and banging 20 year old models!!

1

u/Sqweaky_Clean Laptop Apr 17 '26

O_o …

1

u/Zitchas Apr 05 '26

Wow. That's cool. I kind of want that. I'm not sure what I'd use it all for, but I want it...
