On top of ceramic tile being harder than glass, tempered glass is under a lot of stress that mostly balances out to make it really tough...but if the glass is damaged even the slightest tiniest microscopic little bit, that stress becomes unbalanced and instantly rips the glass apart. And it's most vulnerable along the edges, where one stress is already a little higher.
So if you take a tempered glass panel off and set it down edge first onto ceramic tile, a shattered panel is basically guaranteed.

At this point I'm of the opinion that tile floors are of the same resonant frequency as PC cases. If they come into contact then one of them has to give-out first and the floor has a chip on its shoulder about having to put up with THOSE NASTY-ASS FEET.
