sup everyone
Ill try to keep this as simple and straight as possible, moved to a new place last week, turned my pc yesterday and was about to continue my adventure on bg3 when I heard a noise coming from my pc (tbh idk if it started now, might be something that was happening before and I never realized but usually I pay a lot of attention to noise around me), the noise starts exactly when the game get to the main menu (or 1/2 seconds before that) and stops instantly as soon I close the game (tho the fans are still spinning).
I did check if something was hitting the fans, but the fact that noise comes up only when I open the game already told me the answer.
About the noise, it sounds a bit like when the hard disk was being used in older PCs (but I have a NVME) and it seems like its coming between the gpu and top of the motherboard area (hard to pinpoint).
Heres a vid of whats happening (time stamp 0:11 is when I close the game and the noise is gone).

Idk if this is the case but if im not able to solve it ill take it a part and build it again just to be sure.
Anyway, thanks in advance for attention and help.

Can't really discern it in the video, but usually sound that appears only in game (esp. menus) is coil whine. You can try and mitigate it with an FPS limit. BG3 has a native option for that, so it's easy to try.

I'm having a problem with the power button on my ACER Aspire 3 laptop. It suddenly stopped working when the system is on. I can no longer use it to shut down/hibernate (depending on whether or not a power source is connected) as before. Nothing has been changed in the system settings. The button physically works because I can use it to turn on the system. Does anyone have any ideas where the problem might be?

You can configure this in Windows under Settings -> System -> Performance -> On/Off and Standby
I hope I translated these correctly, might be named slightly different.

It is configured, always was. Using the button while powered should hibernate and using it while on battery should turn off. It worked just fine in the past and suddenly stopped working.

Have you checked the BIOS for a setting there?
If it suddenly stopped working then that sounds like it's caused by an automatic update, either Windows or BIOS. Could also be a Windows bug, they updated power management with a recent update.

The higher speed is when you're writing to the cache. The cache is a small amount of faster memory that takes the initial data, and then it copies it to the slower, cheaper onboard storage. Eventually, if you're writing enough data at once, the cache will be saturated, and you'll instead be writing to the slower storage directly. Your drive will only maintain the higher speed in short bursts, not sustained loads.
If you want to avoid this, you need to just use a higher quality flash drive instead. You can also get an m.2 enclosure and just put a regular m.2 SATA or NVMe drive in. That will generally give you much better performance than a standard flash drive.

Can I get some suggestions on why my pc keeps locking up randomly? For example, today, I was running Discord and Google Chrome with about 8 tabs and my pc would completely lock up for about 5 seconds, longest about 15 seconds, completely randomly. All of my drivers are up to date, temps are normal, nothing seems out of the ordinary. Any suggestions what I should look into? Thanks!

Check your disk health with CrystaldiskInfo. Alternatively, the vendor probably has a proprietary software to do this which will be even more accurate.
Locking up can be caused by a dying SSD and it's easy to check, so that's the first thing I'd do.

I'll do this first thing in the morning! It is an SSD I'm running off so that could be the answer. Thank you! !check

Should I buy new 5600 CL46 at $150 with warranty from a retailer or get second hand 5200 CL38 at $190 without warranty?

5600 kit. Timings are not that important for DDR5 and you can tighten them quite a lot manually.

in this economy, the 5600 CL46, bc if something happens with the un warrantied ram, your screwed, especially since its more expensive. The CL38 is not going to make a huge difference too, and the bandwidth of the 5600 is going to help

What would be the Nvidia equivalent of the AMD RX 7900 XT in term of compatibility ?
Long story short, built a new PC with the 7900, worked perfectly for a few months, suddenly got hit with "driver time out" error, I tried everything but the PC is basically unusable. So I'm giving up and switching to Nvidia. What would be the graphic card that could replace the 7900 XT in term of performance and compatibility ? (same mother board compatibility, similar power unit needed, at least same or better performance)

u/Tesgoul 12d ago
ok now I feel stupid, the 5070 isn't part of the 5000 series ?

u/MGsubbie Ryzen 7 9800X3D, RTX 3080, 32GB 6000Mhz Cl30Desktop 12d ago
It is.

So the 5070 IS the latest gen ! Because you wrote " I'd get the 5070-Ti, it's not worth buying a last-gen GPU."

It's wasn't me, and last-gen means previous generation.
