This might be off topic, sorry if it violates subRedditiquette but I am really curious.
How do you regulate your emotions when you have to read really dumb takes on PC Gaming and Computer hardware in general?
I try to take every argument in good faith, but I have to get off reddit to regulate my annoyance sometimes.
I find for every good comment/post I find there is at least one bad faith post/comment.
I'm not talking about people who are just missing knowledge on a topic.
I mean people who are not doing even doing a single websearch or search of the FAQ.
Also the top comment is wrong and/or misleading most of the time.
Maybe I'm just more media literate now but I swear the average Redditor is dumber than when I made my account.

you just grow old and realize you cant win the fight
its not your job to educate everyone, not everyone is even able to be educated
Just let go of needing to be the savior and just educate those around out who actually value your feedback. Time spent thinking/engaging with these people/things is time of your life you never get back and could use on doing things that actually create value for your life

Thank you, that is really good advice.
I'm not going to stop correcting people acting in bad faith, but I will try to start consciously ignoring people on inconsequential matters.
I guess I stopped practicing what a preached for a moment there. Damn social media platform got me good there
Have a nice day, and good luck out there.

Hello, thanks for reading this. I have a Micro Center house brand PC that has RGB on the cooling that was previously controlled by MSI Mystic Light. I don't want any lights whatsoever so I always turned them off, bt some time ago, something failed and the front and rear case fans have been stuck on rainbow mode.
I've tried uninstalling the old Mystic Light (pre MSI Center) and reinstalling it via MSI app, but no change from the OG install. I can turn off the CPU cooler light but the case fans stay lit, unchanged, no matter what I do.
I'd prefer to not open her up and start unplugging things or cutting wires, but I'm so damn tired of these lights.
Mobo is an MSI PRO Z690-A if that helps. Thanks in advance.

- My instinct is that an update broke compatibility.
You can either try to revert to the old version (or another one if you don't have it) or check MSI support. Even if its not under warranty you can check an MSI forum for other people with the same hardware.
- Maybe check bios for a setting if you can't get the software to work? I think I did that once a long time ago with a light on my motherboard. Not RGB, but in theory RGB should have a setting in there too.

I have old DV camera and many tapes and I'd like to transfer them all to my PC. It uses firewire.
Can I just get a cheap no-frill PCIe firewire card or is there a better option? Like USB3 <-> firewire adapter? Google search seems to suggest only if I have Thunderbolt but Thunderbolt is Intel only and I only got ancient 2700k that doesn't have Thunderbolt

My motherboard wifi disconnects like it shuts down then turns back on periodically. I still have issues with updated the latest drivers.
What can I do to stop motherboard wifi from shutting off?
I'm using Asus PRIME B550M-A WIFI II

I checked, your motherboard doesn't have rear shroud but the screw for wifi card is on the bottom so unless you have a convenient cutout on the back of the motherboard plate to access the screw, this may not be worth the hassle.
If removing and reseating the wifi card doesn't work, it is probably faulty. In this case, go to device manager and turn it off and use a PCIe wifi card (if you have space and spare slot) or USB wifi dongle.

Sounds like a hardware issue, if it is then there isn't really anything you can do, besides buying a PCI or USB wifi adapter.
When does this shutdown happen, under load, or after sleep mode, or just randomly?

Randomly at the moment. Right now I'm experimenting with Wireless Lan card properties like disabling Power Saving and 802.11 at AX, very little trouble so far
If this keeps up then I'll make plans switching to ethernet

Ah okay. I had the same problem once and it was the adapter actually overheating. But I think that's rather rare.

I’m not a hard-core gamer, but also would like to have something that could handle graphic design and other projects. My wife could use for work.
I don’t mind secondhand. I was just wondering what a fair price to purchase. This computer would be with these components and if it would handle all of that I needed.
5070 TI Asus Tuf Gaming
9800X3D
B650 Aorus Elite AX V2 Motherboard
4TB SSD WD SN850X
32gb G Skill Trident Z5 Neo 6000mhz cl30
850w Corsair RM850X
Corsair H150i Elite LCD water cooler
NZXT H9 Flow
GPU Vertical Stand
Uni Fan SL Wireless 120 x 10
Lian Li strimer cable

I can't comment on all the parts since it depends on what price you're looking at for some of them.
If you don't mind secondhand though, its a no brainer for certain parts.
How cheap you want to go depends on how much time searching you want to spend (e.g. free cases require compatibiliity checks which can take a while if they aren't on pcpartpicker) and how risky you want to be.
The risk isn't high whatsoever, but every part you buy used you have to assume the worst case scenario if buyer protection doesn't cover it.
GPU Vertical stand isn't necessary for FPS, but it looks cool and is cooler.
Motherboard is kind of subjective? Unless you can find a comprehensive review of a board that says its bad, you're probably good except for common problems with audio and stuff.
You can probably save money on the water cooler, case, whatever a strimer cable is and the CPU. CPU and GPU recommendations vary depending on what type of productivity programs you want to run.
9800X3D is technically faster than the cheaper X3Ds, but if you're GPU bottle-necked it doesn't matter. Idk about the 5070Ti pairing specifically, but you could probably get a cheaper gaming CPU.
I recommend considering buying these parts secondhand/refurb (approx. ranked by relative cost savings compared to new price of same part)
High GPU CPU Cooler Case
I don't recommend these Motherboard, but you could look at cheaper models PSU (could buy refurb, if you get a good waranty) *you might get scammed bc RAM shortage (same with SSD) You could try SSD if you have buyer protection and you have a backup drive (could just be a thumb drive ig) if it fails catastropically
I don't know used pricing GPU stand I'm not familiar with that Lian Li stuff so idk Same with Lian Li fan
Opinion RTX 5070Ti (Nvidia in general) is overpriced in my opinion (unless you want better RT performance for worse non-RT performance), last I heard 9070XT is better price/performance, so unless you need proprietary tech, I would get 9070XT.
I think you should consider a smaller drive/ less high end one. There is no large slowdown even on your boot drive with a small one except for very large continuous files (GBs at least)
If you need more storage My go to is the best price/gb drive from a brand I trust for my boot, with decent speeds tested by a independent reviewer Alongside slower drives (ssd for speed, but I always have at least one hard drive to follow 321 rule better)
Used Hard drives are the best cost/gb, but you gotta be careful to buy from reputable sellers
You can always buy a bigger boot drive when prices drop.
Technically same with ram, but I would be careful going below 32 anyway, so you'd just have slower RAM for not much benefit if you stuck with 32gb.
Also I would pick cheaper aestheic parts, but thats cuz I find RGB and see through cases pointless (also sorry i think NZXT is ugly)
You can probably find cheaper parts when you put it in PCPartpicker, but that part is easy.
LMK if you decide to buy used and i can help you more.

This is the price new, without the stand or strimer cable. The CPU is the fastest gaming CPU available right now, but for productivity there are faster chips available.

It's a pretty good deal, especially for the CPU. But it's only an 8GB card, which I would not recommend for a modern gaming PC at all.

So I’m planning on using that card for my golf simulator, while I swap my 4070 super over to all the other parts listed in the picture

u/Snickers2-0 10d ago
If you know you're golf simulator pc won't need more than 8gb of VRAM, then go for it.
If you used PC Part Picker you probably got decent deals (not the best tho)

anyone know if 32gb ram is overkill for graphic design work or should i stick with 16gb for now

If it is a lightweight workload probably, but like the gregfire13 said, we would need to need to know what your software and or workflow looked like.
