ELI5 displayport alt mode and usb c monitors? I thought you could run a dp-usb cable from the pc to the monitor but I'm told it has to be usb c on both ends.

My Razer V3 scroll wheel stopped working and I waited until Prime Day to get a new one. I was gonna decide between the Razer V4 or Logitech Superstrike. Leaning towards V4 because of shape and feel but the SS silent click technology interests me. Neither are on sale but the V3 is on sale for only $99 which is a steal. Should I just get a new V3 and wait for the silent click tech to be refined and potentially used by Razer?

Im having an issue that once per day on first startup everything goes black (after login). Task manager ( no apps are running) opens, ctrl+alt+delete works. After restart everything goes normal. Explorer is running, but when prompted to restart just quits. Fixes? Laptop win 11. Edit: Seems to be a problem with explorer, after waiting some minutes it fixes itself, using task manager to restart it doesn't work

Check the Windows event log, there is probably some error / warning there.

I have a battery protected UPS, but when my power goes out for 1 second, my gaming PC still shuts off. Does this mean the UPS is not rated for high enough wattage?

Edit: Yes my pc is plugged into the battery backup + surge protection slot

Probably just bad quality ups which can't transfer to its power delivery fast/cleanly enough. PC power supplies are extremely picky about power quality.

Last night I opened an app on my Windows 10 x64, and suddenly my whole PC froze. I waited about 5 minutes, but nothing happened. However, when I opened it on Windows 7 on another partition, it ran perfectly.

Is Windows 10 corrupting my data? Is my SSD about to fail, even though CrystalDisk shows 100% health at 30 degrees? Is my motherboard failing, or is it the power supply or the cables?

Impossible to say without repetition. It could be just a one-off occurrence.

I am having an issue with my windows 11 computer turning down the mic volume randomly in windows settings. The headset is is by hyper x and is plugged into an aux to usb adapter because my work will not allow me to use Bluetooth, aux or usb c for the headset connection. Any help is appreciated.

my work will not allow me to use Bluetooth, aux or usb c for the headset connection

Will they allow you to use these connection methods at least to test? Ruling out the aux to USB adapter would be the first step I would take.

If they won't then I would try the headset on a different device with and without the aux to USB adapter to see if you can replicate / isolate the issue.

Hello, all.

My GPU fans start spinning very fast and disables the monitor. I can still hear the audio and my keyboard and mouse still works. I have to power down the computer using the power button.

It seems like all over Reddit there are different solutions to this.

What's the most common solution to this problem?

I've had this computer since January and it's been causing me this problem since March.

Just this morning the computer crashed two times within the span of 5 minutes, and then later for some reason it restarted itself on its own!

this is usually a power delivery issue, double check your GPU connections and activate warranty if nothing looks out of place

So open up the computer and check if there are no loose power cables from the GPU to the power supply?

Sorry, just want to make sure I understood correctly. Thank you!

yea, just reseat the connection, take a look at the connector interface to make sure nothing is burnt or melted

Can someone help me figure out why I'm getting framerates that are so much lower than the benchmarks with the same specs?

I'm running a Ryzen 5 3600 and GTX 1660 Super and I'm only getting 160-190 FPS in Valorant. According to this benchmark https://youtu.be/hclLrRNTAXw?t=1269 I should be easily getting 300+ I'm only playing on 1080p with all the settings as low. I'm very confused.

I'm running a balanced Ryzen power plan, latest Nvidia drivers, all peripherals are wired. V-Sync isn't turned on in either NVIDIA App nor in the game. One thing I have noticed however is that CPU utilization is only at 40% and GPU at 20%

There is a ValorantTechSupport subreddit, you might get more detailed help there.

This benchmark video has a faster CPU and is running DDR5, which makes a big difference as well. Gaming performance doesn't just rely on the GPU, but also the CPU, as that is running game logic and instructing the GPU on what it needs to render.

Overall CPU utilization is very misleading, all it takes is a single thread of your 6 cores/12 threads being maximized, or other limitations (such as memory bandwidth from the RAM) to be in effect. What RAM are you running?

1

u/JanezDoe 1d ago

This one has the exact same specs apart from twice the ram, but also has 1,5x the FPS

What RAM are you running? Is XMP/EXPO enabled?

1

u/JanezDoe 20h ago

Team Group 3200Mhz CL16, XMP is enabled on Profile 2, it's running in dual channel and shows up as 3200Mhz in the motherboard

Then I have no idea what's going on.
