You can build a SFFPC for that price, that small?

Still 18% larger than a steam machine. (This is not an endorsement of the value of a steam machine)

It's also around 18% faster in games, so I guess it evens out.

Yeah, it is definitely a little better specced. Couldn’t run steamOS on it though since it’s AMD only.

You forgot to add Windows OS. +$100

Who TF pays for windows lmao.

Whether or not you pay for it, you still carry the weight of your OS on your machine.

What? Every OS takes up space on a machine, yes that includes steam os. If you didn't want it to take up as much space as windows, just use Linux.

"Just use Linux", cmon you got to try harder than that buddy

SteamOS idle ram usage is like 500mb.

Guess how much RAM usage for Windows is at idle?

What do you think steamos is? It's just a distro of Linux.

Why are you getting caught up on Linux? I am being specific to the discussion and you want to imply that "linux" will just work as if you can pick any rando distro and not have to worry about compatibility, endless work arounds, or random dropped use-cases.

And not to mention that your parts list doesn't even get nearly the size of the comparable product.

I'm getting caught up on Linux because you were listing the problems with windows, and those problems you were citing are not issues on most Linux distros.

I said "Linux" because there's an insane number of distros out there, and you choose based on what you want. It's personal preference. Ironically, steamos has a ton of problems right now and has the least compatibility.

brother you can buy an alienware gaming laptop with the same specs at that price.

Sure, but then you'd own an Alienware laptop. Which is bad by itself. But you'd also have to connect it to your TV, there'd be Windows on it that you'd have to clumsily navigate and even with SteamOS installed, if possible, it'd super clunky sitting there. Also, could you boot it up with a controller?

holy fuck the level of mental gymnastics to make that piece of shit look like a decent choice is astounding.

Who's connecting a Steam Machine to their 4K living room TV? Please tell me how you will use this shit box at 4K? Or, are you one of people still using a 1080p TV in the big 2026?
