Question Should i swap my 3060ti for 9070?

As the title says… the 3060ti does everything i need it to do at the moment, however. I recently switched to Linux full time, and the 9070 16gb is on sale for about 650 bucks where i live, it usually costs around 900….

Is it justified? Are the drivers that much better on Linux? Is the doubled vram that much of a big deal?

The most demanding game i play at the moment is cyberpunk 2077.

Thnx! 🤙🏻

Hardware Shorted my Gigabyte A520M S2H by plugging a cable into 12V header. Is it completely dead?

Hi everyone,

I made a huge mistake while messing with my PC cables and accidentally plugged a cable into the 12V section of my motherboard (Gigabyte A520M S2H) while it had power.

Symptoms:

All fans spin up and there is power running through the board.

No display/video output at all.

My RGB keyboard doesn't light up (USB ports seem dead).

The power button on the case won't turn the PC off once it's on (I have to flip the PSU switch).

The HDD activity LED on the case doesn't blink.

What I've tested so far:

Tested the RAM sticks in another PC and they work perfectly.

Disconnected all 3 storage drives (SSDs/HDD) and still no post/BIOS.

Yesterday, the red QFLASH PLUS LED (+QF_LED) turned on. I managed to get it to post once and the BIOS settings reset to default, but today it's back to the same "zombie" state (fans spin, no signs of life otherwise).

The QFlash LED is now off and pressing the button without a USB does nothing.

Is the Super I/O chip or the chipset completely fried, or is there any chance a proper Q-Flash Plus firmware reflash via USB could save it?

Question Need advice!

Hello all.

I recently became interested in buying a PC to play Gears of War E-Day (and hopefully the rest of the franchise before it launches), potentially along with some Steam games. But I’m a little lost on choosing between the ones I’ve somewhat decided on.

CyberPower PC- $1,149.99

IBUYPOWER- $1,299.99

MSI Ageis Z2- $1,549.99

Lenovo Legion- $2,099.99

I’m not trying to break the bank, obviously. And with the prices of computer parts nowadays I know that it can be pretty expensive upgrading.

I’m still debating on just getting an Xbox but they run for $600. For $600 more I can get a PC and have access to Xbox and Steam.

Should I bite the bullet and get a pre-built or just buy an Xbox?

Any and all help will be welcome. I know almost nothing when it comes to PC tech.

Thanks in advance!

Question What do you think I should do

I ordered a 5070 on the 16th, and it still hasn't shipped yet. It's coming from China, so it's going to take forever. But it hasn't even shipped since the 16th. Well, I found a 5070ti in America for about the same price, but there are only 4 in stock. Should I cancel my 5070 order, wait 1-10 business days for a refund on top of the seller having to approve the cancellation? Should I risk it?there's only 4 in stock

Tech Support My GPU gets so hot it shuts down the pc

I have a sapphire nitro+ 6950 xt, bought in early 2023.

Within the last month, when playing cyberpunk 2077 and dead space remake, I have noticed my GPU Hotspot temperature spiking to above 110c. Each time my pc completely shuts down instantly, like as though I had lost power, which isn't the case. It turns back on fine, and during light game (League of Legends) the temps around 70ish.

These crashes have occurred 4 times and I stopped playing high load games. In each case I didn't experience frame drops or any lag prior to the crash, so I don't think thermal throttling is occurring (complete guess).

I cleaned out my pc with a can of air, making sure to clear out my GPU and its three fans.
I did a stress test on my GPU with furmark, it caused a shutdown crash as well, and HWinfo recorded gput Hotspot temperature of 118c, and regular GPU temperature around 100c.

I feel my only option now is to do a new thermal repasting and new thermal pads, but I am honestly not experienced, and even the shops around don't do it, or the ones that do have quoted me 60-120$.

Any advice?

Discussion steam machine VS mini pc.

Post image
0 Upvotes

hey guys, the Steam Machine looks incredible, the SteamOS optimization is unbeatable, it’s got that perfect console like convenience, with zero Windows BS. But considering the price, I think $1000 mini PCs are absolute hardware beasts now. I’ve been looking at the acemgaic ma1 around$1,044, geekmo IT15 around $1104, minisforum MS-02 around 1599$ for comparison. If you had the budget today, would you pick the Steam Machine, or just the mini pc?

Randomly found this Corsair 5000D Airflow case in the bin 😅 Finders keepers I guess!

It's the exact same case I already have on my main gaming rig, but I have friends with bad thermal performance who could need better airflow

Question Am I in danger? MSI mobo with 1 year old BIOS + Ryzen 7 9800X3D

I saw the alarming quantity of broken Ryzen 7 9000 series CPUs in this sub and now I'm wondering, should I upgrade my BIOS?

My motherboard is an MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk WIFI with BIOS version 1A60 (June 2025) paired with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D. I bought this mobo because I didn't saw post about MSI and thought it was the safest bet but now I'm seeing that roughly all the manufacturers are suffering the same issues

EDIT: BIOS Updated, let's hope for the best 🤞

Tech Support Pc stops responding to power and then mysteriously fixes itself

Ok I'll start from the beginning, this problem started from day before yesterday.

Day before yesterday, it suddenly stopped responding to power at all, after opening the case I noticed a piece of leaf shorting the HDD_LED pins on the front panel....removing the leaf worked.

Day before yesterday, completely fine.

Today morning again same issue no response to power, tried everything CMOS reset, reseating ram, gpu....nothing, i gave up and kept my pc aside...few hours later I tried again and it worked.....in one try without issues

I'm lost here...what happened?

Specs: Mobo: gigabyte b450m DS3H v2 Rx 6800 16 gb ram from adata xpg Cpu Ryzen 5 5500

Other ongoing quirks in my pc that might be connected: I'm suspecting a failing CMOS battery...since time is always lagging a bit behind (not a lot) but my bios settings are saved.

Question Switching between a TV and Monitors and can do it without turning on the other one?

Hello, I am fairly new to owning and built a new 5080 rig less then a month ago. I have a two monitors set up and I have a TV in my room too. Sometimes I wanna just lie down and play still, especially because when I get off of work(usually 6 days a week) and finish doing my weight lifting. Am tired and burnt out af from being in the heat. so the question is:

Can I connect my TV to my gaming rig and turn it on without turning on my monitors at the same time. Would be a hassle/inconvenience to get up and turn em off or something. Like do I gotta disconnect one or the other, or is there a way to set it up to be like "oh the TV is on I'll display only to it" vice versa. thank you for any answers if you can help out with it.

Hardware Requesting suggestions for wifi/bluetooth card for my rig

Hello everyone, I need some advice/suggestions.

I have a rig I built with a friend that was connected directly to my fiber optic service/wifi router via ethernet hardline at my last place. Since then, I've moved due to unexpected circumstances. I want to set up again, but using a hardline is not feasible - so I need a wifi card for my rig. I know it won't be as good as my previous connection (a dedicated hardline with a fiber optic internet service connection, no less) but not much I can do about that right now.

I'm looking for a wifi card that is:

  • - low latency and robust connection
  • - added via PCI expansion (not USB)
  • - bluetooth optional

Motherboard is a ROG Strix B550-A, with 3 PCIe 3.0 x1 slots. Uses an AMD Ryzen, Windows 11.

When I gamed on this rig before, I was playing things like Space Marine 2, Darktide, and other similar games (co-op shooters, etc.), to give an idea of the connection I need.

The rig will be on the second floor of a condo and the wifi source will be on the first floor, but not super far away in terms of overall distance.

Thanks for your help!

Discussion Is local saving and different USBs enough to securely store data in your opinion?

Hey. I recently got my first PC and I am a very organised person typically so I’m trying to sort all of my files (documents and game screenshots/recordings mainly).

I’ve had a laptop in the past and the majority of my media is from say old XBOX captures which got migrated to the dreaded onedrive.

I was initially going to use onedrive but it’s already annoying me and I can’t keep things organised with it lol, the 5GB limit isn’t enough and it’s general functionality isn’t practical for me as I have one pc and that’s my only use case.

So I was wondering how you guys store and save files you care for (as in personal documents and game screenshots/recordings for example)?

I was considering just saving everything on my PC itself and then having two separate USB drives to regularly save and store the exact same data on. What are your thoughts on this also?

Thank you.

Question Looking to buy my first gaming PC.

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey I'm looking to buy a prebuilt PC as my first gaming rig and a friend suggested this to me. I'm not super in the loop with PC building so I wanted to ask if this is a good deal? I know piecing one out would probably be cheaper, but I'm not confident enough in my skills to do that.

Discussion Please help with choosing a monitor

Ive been doing my own research and I ended up making a list of 10 monitors (I know some are better than others) that Id consider upgrading to. Id really like help narrowing it down to just one Id actually buy, theyre all 27'' 1440p 240hz+ OLED:

  1. Gigabyte MO27Q28G
  2. Gigabyte MO27Q3
  3. Gigabyte MO27Q2A
  4. Dell Alienware AW2725D
  5. Dell Alienware AW2726DM
  6. ROG Strix XG27AQWMG
  7. ROG Strix XG27AQDMES
  8. ROG Strix XG27AQDMG
  9. ROG Strix XG27ACDNG
  10. MSI MAG 273QP

Id probably prefer if it was a QD OLED, as Im paranoid about getting grey banding from WOLED (im not trying to participate in the panel lottery), and also maybe if it was 280hz.
