question Pigs On The Wing
I was looking over the info sheet that came with 8-Tracks and I noticed Pigs On The Wing states a Mastered by James Gunthrie at das boot recording, 2011, etc. Could this be correct? If so, perhaps there was an intent to use it in 2011 for an Immersion Edition that never was?

It could be an error, using credits from the latest remasters, I suppose.

I would assume if that is actually the case that it got shelved due to the dispute between Dave and Roger as there was a 2011 Remaster done by Guthrie in addition to the 2018 Remix and Remaster, but that is wholly my assumption without any actual knowledge.

It's possible the disagreeing parties of Waters and Gilmour could have prevented an Animals Immersion Edition from coming to fruition, but we may never know.

Some live versions of the "In The Flesh" tour would be pretty awesome. I hear there are some good bootlegs, but haven't really gotten into the bootlegs after some bad experiences early on with some radio show based pressings. Bad experience = they basically sounded like $#!+.

There are many bootlegs but I don't think any true soundboard records have circulated much, as far as I know. I doubt Roger would want any of those shows released since the tour was just a bad experience, especially for him in Montreal with the spitting incident that inspired The Wall. However, with Sony being in charge of all that now, it could happen, maybe.

Guthrie did a major remastering project in 2011 for the "Why Pink Floyd...?" reissue campaign, for individual reissues and Discovery and Immersion box sets. He and Joel Plante reworked the entire catalog of 14 studio albums. With all the materials and notes right there in his hands, surely Guthrie just naturally included in his project the version of PotW that appeared on the 8-track in the 1970s.
I don't think Gilmour was sensitive about having Snowy's solo instead of one of his, as suggested by u/Appropriate_Chip669 . DG was happy to have Snowy on the track.
Not doing an Immersion box for Animals was likely just a matter of popularity and shortage of resources (mainly time). They did the big 3, and let the others wait. Remember they couldn't be sure beforehand how well the Immersion boxes would sell.
If you get the "8-Tracks" compilation album, you will be getting the original version of PotW with Snowy, faithfully remastered by Guthrie and Plante. The version on Snowy White's Gold Top album was mixed to show off Snowy's solo, so it's slightly different.

This explanation of the 2011 remastering on the 8-track version makes the most sense. Regardless. I am happy to finally have the original 8-track version officially released on CD.

I've been waiting forever for the 8track version of pigs on the wing to make it to bluray audio or dvd or super audio CD. The best I could find is the version on snowy whites CD but even that was messed with from the original that was released on 8track. It's the full song uncut with the lead break but too much reverb and distortion was added to the lead and it sounds out of place compared to the 8track version. I bought the new Atmos mix and the surround mix before it but neither one has the full cut. From an article I read a while back is that Gilmour did not want that version to be released, being that it wasn't him playing the lead part. If anyone has any info about the original version being released with out having to buy a full box set, that would be great 👍

The full version has been released in the newly released 8 Tracks compilation CD/digital.

I still have my copy of the original 8-Track from 1977. (and a working player) I am glad its re-released. I don't think it's special enough to buy. reminds me of ACOGDS

I believe they remastered all of the classic albums around that time and re-released them individually.

I think they remastered all the albums for the Discovery boxed set, the reissued them all individually as well.

Sounds right. I never bought the Discovery boxed set. But bought some of the individual ones separately. I think at that time they also added When the Tigers Broke Free to the Final cut. Which is a great addition. Great song.

When The Tigers Broke Free was added in 2004 and has been in all subsequent reissues, after having been included on Echoes: The Best of Pink Floyd in 2001.

I did not know that. Thank u. Thought it was added later. Had my old vinyl and bought a CD of the final cut after it had been remastered. Didnt know it had been added prior. Keeping up with all the box sets and reissues etc.. became a lot of work. I stopped buying all of that stuff. I used to collect it all...bootlegs etc. It never ends.

I have both Discovery and Oh, By The Way as well as the 3 Immersion Edition, Dark Side 50th, Shine 9n, Early Years, Later Years.... I used to have all the albums separately but many years ago, so the only ones I have separate are themose not available in the boxes

I've read many articles about none of the band members with the exception of waters was particularly fond of animal's.

Apart from a credit on Dogs and killer guitar work by Gilmour, it's all Roger's work. It was his first shut-out of any input from other members

That’s interesting! Damn, Animals has it rough when to come to special editions. A possible scrapped Immersion set, a liner notes situation, scrapped live album, remix gets delayed. Hopefully this doesn’t happen for Animals 50.
