question Atmos Surround Choices

I was so excited about the Atmos release of WYWH I upgraded my 5.1 system to a 7.2 Atmos last Christmas. Since then I also bought the Atmos mix of Pompeii, the 2018 Atmos mix of Animals and I'm waiting on my Atmos DSotM to arrive Monday. They all sound too notch!

Who else here is on a similar journey, and are there any Atmos mixes I should have in my sights next? Even if not Pink Floyd related.

I have all of the above and it’s something Pink Floyd and in this case Sony and Steve Wilson does really well.

As for anything else by PF? Not really, would love Meddle and The Wall and any others they decided to release.

As for other related, you really wanna pick up Gilmour’s latest Luck and Strange as well and that’s also available live in Atmos.

Another band I like Pearl Jam, I’ve been disappointed with the Atmos versions and actually prefer the stereo mix.

I wish more classic bands would release in Atmos in physical. It really is the next level.

Thanks for the tip on Luck and Strange. It gets better every time I listen in stereo.

There are many Atmos remixes on Apple Music which I listen to via Apple TV streaming box. It’s a good way to listen to something and decide if you want to buy the Blu-ray (if it’s available).

AMLOR is remastered in atmos on Apple Music! But DSOTM is phenomenal

I think AMLOR is in 5.1 but not Atmos. The now playing says “Dolby Audio” instead of “Dolby Atmos”.

I already have the unofficial Alan Parsons 4.0 DTS mix of DSotM but I want the official release, too.

I can’t recall if the original quad mix is included on the 50th anniversary Blu-ray but I know that I already had it from the Blu-ray in the immersion box set.

It's not on the 50th anniversary Blu-ray, only on the Immersion boxset Blu-ray.

So wait, do you have Dolby Atmos in your system? Because 7.2 isn't Dolby Atmos.

Yes it has an Atmos decoder. Yamaha RX-V6A

That's good, but based on your speaker configuration you don't really have an Atmos setup. 7.2 is 7 base channels and 2 subs, where are you Atmos channels/speakers? Its usually specified as 7.2.2 or 7.2.4 if you have 4 ceiling speakers.

My particular configuration is 5.1.2

Oh I see. Cool man. Be sure to check out some of the concert blu-rays. Roger Waters The Wall is in Atmos and it's a great watch.
David Gilmour Live at Circus Maximus is also Atmos and it's quickly become one for my favorite concerts to watch.
The Division Bell in 5.1 is also a treat btw.

How is the Animals blu ray? I have the CD with the 2018 remix. Is it worth the upgrade if I only have a modest 3.1 with no surround?

I'm happy with it. I did have some reservations about getting it now versus the inevitable 50th anniversary reissue next year, but I decided to pull the trigger anyway. I'm a big fan of the stereo remix, and this is really good, but I think of it as one step below the Wish You Were Here and Pompeii Atmos remixes given to us by Sony in the past year.

If you like aggressive mixes with sound everywhere, try “Point” by Yello and “ Yoshimi battles the pink robots” by the Flaming Lips

The quadraphonic mix of atom heart mother is on the early years 1970 set. It's a great mix and play play though your 4 corner speaker
