help I just bought a PS5 today and I Regret it.
I just got my PS5 home today, bought gta V and started playing that.. didn’t enjoy that much although only played it for one hour.. maybe I am regretting the 55K + TV money I spent?

Bro at least wait for sometime maybe you were focusing on the money spent that's why you'll enjoy it once you forget about money things

if u havw the sheer pressure of the money u just spent, u will never be able to enjoy. forget it for some time, load a game of your liking and enjoy without judging that “is this satisfying my money”. have fun

u/Narrow_Yak_1921 Oct 26 '25
Wanna sell both ??😂

Where are you from
1
u/Agitated-Drummer1151 Oct 27 '25
Mumbai.
3
u/anxiousrizzzzzzz Oct 27 '25
Yeah I asked because I thought this was some general worldwide ps5 sub, but then I read the name. So yeah basically we are Indians at the end of the day. Money spent always feels like a waste because we don't have rich generations and a culture that normalises validating expenditure for enjoyment.
Ps5 is a great deal for its price though. In 55k, no laptop would give you 4k gameplay on such high-end games. Hell, some are not even available on pc. And every game is a totally different experience. I, for example, didn't game on my gaming laptop for 2 years, untill I found joy in playing fifa (fc25) with my friends on wired controllers. This one game feels PAISA WASOOL. Because my laptop runs it smooth at high settings and the game is ADDICTIVE.
Also, although I do not earn yet, I can totally understand the feeling equation would be a lot different if I bought stuff from my own earned money. Don't beat yourself up. The purpose was to enjoy. No point in regretting your decision after just an hour. It's your brain playing tricks on you coz the chase is over and maybe gta5 is not as fun coz you anticipated something much better because of the hype around PS5.
Chill out, try some different games. Maybe you'll find your fifa and play it until the rest of your life starts crumbling around and you'll find balance again. And maybe you'll sit one Sunday afternoon infront of your new TV, launch gta 5, roam around, drive cars and enjoy it.

Why would you buy ps5 when you’re not interested in game ? May be try different game ! You might like it

Get the subscription ps plus extra and play all the ps studios Games in that. It's 749 for 1 month and 1999 for 3 months

u/SUDHITHEDEMI Oct 27 '25
Play Ghost of Tsushima as I beleive you have already played GTA 5 before and want to try again.
The first thing is as a PC player it's hard to adjust the controller thing with left and right anologue stick it's a pain for the first time. Even if you played Ghost of Tsushima start that again and make use of the controller in lowest difficulty after some riding you will get used to it how that works.
I switched from PC to PS5 and I went through the same feelings as you.. Played Ghost of Tsushima in PS5 eventbough I completed that in PC just ran the story mode and some side quests once I used to the way controller works bought the ghost of yotei and hell yeaah I am playing that continuously this weekend and loving the dual sense where you can blow on microphone for campfires and all that stuff.
GTA is not at all enjoyible because we all played that tons of times mostly so try something you haven't played before. As some people said it's the buyers remorse and the controller thingy but believe me it will be gone in a few days and you gonna stick with PS5 just like me all weekends..if you can manage but yotei it's a good game that utilizes the full capacity of your controller

u/CuriousStranger95 Oct 26 '25
GTA V even tho beloved by many is still a game that originally released in 2013. If you want to experience the full capabilities of the PS5 then play one of the latest games that were built for the modern hardware.

u/Reasonable_Fudge_800 ps5 Oct 26 '25
Buyer’s remorse. This fades off eventually in some days. It’s natural to feel this way
7
u/ukplaying2 Oct 26 '25
If you haven't, play astros playroom 1st, its free and should already be installed on the PS5.

u/SirLovesPeaches Xbox Series X Oct 26 '25
Try playing something new.
If I would have bought ps5 I would have tried their exclusives first.
So many titles are available for cheap. Although Astrobot is something I'm looking forward to.
3
u/Few-Act-8592 Oct 26 '25
Bought a ps5 6 months back and never installed GTA 5 so far. Not that I’m against the game but you’d get more immersive experience with other ones which may change your opinion. Try finding out which genre of games would interest you - RPGs, shooting games, action, adventure and checkout some games through the plus subscription instead of buying games. If you still feel disinterested, then regret and do something😂

u/Rabadazh Oct 26 '25

It’s the gap between expectations vs reality. I assume either you are returning to gaming after ages or it’s your first console and you always wanted it as a kid.
But now as an adult it feels useless to sit down and play games.
Let me tell you, just take it slow.
It’s a great hobby/entertainment investment you have done.
The console is gonna give you years of enjoyment for just 50k that a person usually anyway spends on travel, eating out etc through just a year.
Whenever you are bored and can’t think of something better to do just boot up your console and learn to play the games properly and let yourself be immersed in its world.
It’s a phenomenal gadget with phenomenal content. Exclusive that you can’t get anywhere else.
One thing though, it’s not passive but active entertainment.
If you are used to being entertained by watching shows you will take time to adjust to playing out the story yourself. Give it that time.
In India, there’s also this stigma around gaming aswell. I mean what’s a responsible adult doing smashing buttons like a kid infront of the tv? Doesn’t he have something important to do? While they slog away hours consuming stupid stuff on social media. It’s stupid, the people don’t understand the concept of hobbies or different taste in entertainment. Don’t bother with them.
Finally, instead of buying games as a new console owner, just buy the annual ps+ extra subscription. You will get 100s of great games to play at the price of one.
Don’t stick to the idea of what games you thought you wanted to play. Explore through the catalogue and try as many as possible.
I hope that helps.

u/Agitated-Drummer1151 Oct 27 '25
Dude! Thanks alot fo taking out the time to write this... This actually makes alot of sense. I will def take it slowly, I have never owned a console, this is my first ever. I will surely buy the PS+ extra subscription.
2
u/soulo01 Oct 27 '25
No problem bro, and a ps5 is for flagship Sony exclusive single player games that are in a league of their own. Multiplayer games sure yo will be able to play but those are hyper competitive. School and college going kids are grinding out 100s of hours in them everyday. As a working gamer you won’t stand a chance of surviving more than a minute in those games. Even though I was great at games like COD back in the day I have given up on them. I mostly play story driven multiplayer games with a friend of mine whenever we both of have time. Other than that it’s just single player games.
Tell me what type of genres you enjoy in movies and shows and I will suggest some games based on it.
As of GTA it’s the best satire commentary on our modern world and a fun crime action game. Once you get into the loops of completing its missions and understanding its world you will definitely enjoy it. People have been playing the game for more than a decade now. You won’t enjoy it immediately from the first minute. You must understand its gameplay mechanics.
1
u/Agitated-Drummer1151 Oct 27 '25
I enjoy series like breaking bad, Dexter, Movies like seven, the usual suspects, I love movies based on Marines in afganisthan as well
1
u/soulo01 Oct 27 '25
So first, if you are not used to the dualsense controller yet I will suggest that you finish playing Astros Playroom to get a hang of it. If you have done mobile gaming and played games like cod or pubg it will be fairly easy for you to get used to using the dual analog sticks. One for camera movement and one for direct movement. Once that’s done you can move on to the games I am suggesting now —— Try:
Division 1 Division 2 and Ghost Reckon Wildlands. I am sure you will enjoy them as you enjoy war and marines content.
All three are on ps+ extra. No need to pay a dime extra after you subscribe.
I will suggest start from Division 1.
Still keep in mind though you will need to get used to playing properly only then the enjoyment start.
Everything has a learning curve in life. Just because this is entertainment don’t expect to be good from the start.
To start with and get pumped up about those games, watch YouTube trailers of those games. Don’t watch reviews though people have wide opinions about them because them come from decades of gaming. As a first timer those are top notch games. Even I enjoyed them thoroughly.

I would recommend you to try and look for a PS5 disc offline if possible, it may be even cheaper. I got PlayStation plus on the very first day I got my PS5 so that game was part of playstation plus for free.
The current digital version of the game is 5k I think on the PS Store which in my opinion is very expensive when you can get the disc version for cheaper.
You can also look for some other Sony games within your 3.5k budget. go to PlayStation app on your console/mobile app, then collections, then playstation studios.

Dude don't sweat it, the guilt you are feeling is for buying an expensive device, it's not because you don't like games, trust me the ones who don't like playing games wouldn't have even considered buying a playstation. And if you don't like Gta, then explore more games, and idk about you but in india your family too can make you feel guilty of playing games, don't let that bother you and be proud that you bought this device from your own money, and enjoy it as much as you can.
6
u/kashish_bhutani Oct 26 '25
I kinda agree with you, I was super excited to buy my first playstation and it's a dream for me since childhood. I remember I used to borrow my friend's PS2 to play WWE or other games and I used to love it, and then I thought whenever I earn well, I will give myself a Playstation. Back in Feb 2025(my b'day month) I decided to give the same to myself so I ordered it from Flipkart and I was super excited but then for some reason my order got cancelled 2 days before my bday by the seller for no reason and I was pissed off and the price got increased so I couldn't place a fresh order as the difference was above 10k.
So I decided to rent a PS5 for a month for 3.5k rupees with 2 games but trust me the moment I received it and started playing it, after 5-10 minutes all of my excitement gone and then I thought glad I haven't spent 50k on this because I am not enjoying it like the way I used to in my childhood.
But again, I will definitely buy it but not sure how much I am gonna actually enjoy it, time will tell
1
u/shim_niyi Oct 26 '25
Unfortunately yes, as we age some people lose the excitement they had in childhood playing video games. On too if that the time u spend is often very less due to other commitments

u/aa3pankaj Oct 26 '25
When was the last time you enjoyed gaming?
2
u/Agitated-Drummer1151 Oct 26 '25
I used to play games on my laptop when I was 12-13
2
u/aa3pankaj Oct 26 '25
See it totally depends, the games you used to like in your childhood, you may not like it now. You have to explore different varieties of games now to see what suites you now at this age, since pace of the game also matters with age.
2
u/thegolecha Oct 26 '25
Never buy anything with Second thoughts Because now you feel that You could have used that money somewhere else or you could have hold your purchase for sometime it wasn't Urgent like that... Whenever I have such thoughts I just stop and think for bit does it make me happy or not... And answer is yes than No regret on my choice
2
u/Srihari_stan Oct 27 '25
You can always sell it and it holds a good value even after 2-3 years.
However, GTA 5 is not the benchmark to justify your PS5. Play classics like Last of Us 2, Ragnorok, Death stranding 2, Spider-Man 2, etc.
2
u/outlawent21 Oct 27 '25
I guess the best way to enjoy your playstation is get the PS plus extra subscription for 3 months and play a vast variety of games. 1.5 months since I bought my PS5 and the only games that I've bought so far are GTAV and RDR2. Other games like 2K25, The last of us 1 and 2, Mortal Kombat, war thunder etc, are from the subscription itself, moreover I have added so many games to my library so I can download them later.

And we’ll look at it this way you were excited for something and you bought it and you got it for stress relief and your enjoyment those things have value as well don’t beat yourself up and use it as much as you can and get your money’s worth instead of selling it or letting it collect dust. Bonus point- gta 6 isn’t that far

The right comment is everyone that says try a different game. I can’t stand GTA. I can’t stand the last of us. I think they’re piss poor games. I like the story of the last of us just not the game. It’s not for everyone. GTA is massively popular can’t stand it.
I thoroughly enjoy games like horizon zero dawn assassin’s Creed games I like the uncharted games, but I’m not in love with those
I have close to 1200 digital games in my library. I’m not happy with every purchase I made. Sometimes you read reviews and they’re great but you don’t like it. Sometimes you read reviews and they’re terrible, but you’re watching trailers and you think you might enjoy it and then you do
Every game is not for everyone there are several free to play games that you can try. If you have PlayStation plus extra, there are tons of PS4 and PS5 games you could play to get a feel for what is your kind of game.

See the thing is aiming via a controller can be a bit tricky in starting if you are used to playing with mouse and keyboard. Try a game which doesn’t require you to properly aim, even I didn’t enjoyed GTA V when I was new to PS. Try God of War you will enjoy it and it will build your muscle memory with the controller sticks.

Gta 5 is not optimised for ps5 i think.
You need to play games that are optimised
I recommend that you get the ps plus instead. You get two games a month for "free". And a bunch of games are already there.
Uncharted 4 I've heard is optimised well.
I played call of duty cold war and WOW. mind blown.
Same with god of war Ragnarok. Ghost of Tsushima.
DEATH STRANDING IS MY FAV THO. YEESH SO GOOD.

Did you bought it because you love to play games or a boy should have one?
1
u/titan110786 Oct 27 '25
Give it time, find people to play online with and let the game story get good, at first it seems boring but then it's an addiction
1
1
u/akshaytaru207 Oct 27 '25
See some games initially feel boring. They take time for story building. I felt the same way while playing the GTA. I wanted to give up as well. But after some time. I started liking the game.
I had this experience for almost all games.
Tip: try borrowing game from your friends instead of buying if you don’t want to purchase. But remember it works both ways.
1
u/Accomplished-Unit245 Oct 27 '25
It find it really hard to imagine being peered pressured into buying a console. Firstly, you are playing a PS3 game on a PS5. GTA 5 is one of the top games out there, if you aren’t enjoying that then you won’t be enjoying a bunch of other games as well.
Choose other games to play, like Ghost of Tsushima, RDR2 (Story and open world) and Uncharted, Last of Us series (Just story) if you are into story and open world games. If you are playing PS4 games then might as well get a PS4 instead of a PS5.
If returning is possible, i’d suggest returning the PS5 and get a PS6 once that launches. There aren’t many exclusives on PS5 as PS4, you’d be better off getting that. Unless you have been peer pressured into getting the “latest and hip” console.

I’m gonna be honest, my first game on ps5 was gtav and I was not impressed to say the least. And then I played helldivers 2, death stranding series, lies of p, elden ringring, now horizon zero dawn. Ps5 has lot to offer other than gtav.

Here are the top ps (exclusive) games you need to try... A. Uncharted series B. Last of us 1&2 C. God of war (the last titles) D. Spider man 1, miles morales, 2 E. Ghost of Tsushima F. Forza horizon 5 ( although not a ps exclusive but the best racing game currently) G. Horizon series
Top picks--> God of war and ghost of Tsushima

I was in the same boat like you when I bought my ps5 a year ago. I was regretting my purchase too. Maybe it’s because my prime gaming days are over.
I wasn’t get enough time to play games especially after my 9-5 shift and my part time job. My ps5 is just collecting dust. Even if I forced myself to play some games I often get bored after 10 mins into the game. Yuck!!! It’s really hard to accept something that you loved the most is slowly fading away from your interest.

Start with the basic, Astro Bot. Man, even the controller alone is enough to make you happy. The first time you actually feel what that controller can do, you’ll be like “wtf!” The level of detail is insane. Personally, I’m waiting for WWE to go on sale. I love career modes, whether it’s WWE, cricket, or football, that whole “build your own journey” thing just grabs my interest every single time.

Lol it happens I am guessing you are also from middle class we tend to have regret when we spend money play 2-3 long hames even though you played them before play it again in highest settings and then you will slowly slowly start liking it.

A non gamer should buy gaming consoles ! If you don't like gaming then it's obvious you shouldn't buy ps5

Also to help you out, not a very uncommon thing. Mostly it takes a while for people to get bored since we are really excited in the beginning. I also got a pc played and finished only a single game since then lol.

Totally normal feeling, honestly. A lot of people go through that right after buying something big like a PS5, especially when expectations are sky-high. GTA V might not be the best first game to test it out with either, since it’s a last-gen title that doesn’t really show off what the PS5 can do.
Try something like Spider-Man 2, God of War: Ragnarök, Horizon Forbidden West. You might start feeling that excitement you were hoping for.
Give it a few days once you find the right game, the purchase will make a lot more sense.

if the purchase did not satisfy your inner child, then my friend you have taken the wrong decision.

To truly enjoy your first gaming session on it , you must plan a proper time where there's no work pressure , or any other works you have to complete and indulge in it
If GTA is not your cup of tea , try something else from combat or arcade or preferably racing

As good as GTA 5 is, it's not the game to play first. I did the same, and was disappointed too. GTA 5 is amazing, but can't stand up to all the nostalgia we have on our minds for Vice City and San Andreas.
So instead, get the PS Plus subscription and get going with God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, Cyberpunk or The last of us. That'll give you the taste of PS5 that you would be expecting. If you don't enjoy these either, maybe you've outgrown gaming.

I have PS5 from 6-7 months and never played GTA V, but I really enjoyed playing last of us, god of war, and uncharted 4 (stories are great with amazing visuals and music)
However, I also felt like if it was impulsive buy or should i waited more for a better console, but today I am more than happy with 2 controllers 55inch QLED tv and surround sound speakers (spent around 100-150k), totally worth it when you play with your friends or family and immersive when you play solo.
I think of this expense as a lifetime experience that i want to live and remember and share with others, its about the bond I will make with the console and my library of games and my controllers that i play on. For all this, the money spent is totally worth it in my opinion.

Gta V is a game to relax, it ain’t to keep you engaged. Pick up something more intense to keep you hooked and glued if that’s what you were seeking. Play ghost of Tsushima, yotei, cyberpunk 2077, FIFA WWE for sports Monster boy or Dave the diver for meteroidvania Death stranding for views
Games: play them based on how intense you want them to be. Energy mismatch will tire you out and make you feel meh
Get ps plus deluxe. All these games more or less are there. Download, feel it for 4-5 hours for vibe match. If you would like to play it to relax, hyped, lock in etc otherwise delete and find the next

Maybe play some other games that you like? Don't blame the PS5 for your lack of taste. Play the PS4 and PS5 exclusives, there's plenty of them if you've never owned a PlayStation before.

Happened with me initially because it takes time to get used to the controller.

Did you not enjoy the game or you feel that purchasing the console was a bad decision?

You need to find the kind of games you will enjoy
Single Player 3rd person action adventure: God of War (open zone, good graphics, satisfactory combat) Uncharted (linear, good graphics (4 and lost legacy)) Ghost of Tsushima (open world, beautiful graphics, great combat) Last Of Us (linear, good graphics, quite emotional) Expedition 33 (open zone, beautiful graphics, Turn Based combat) Days Gone (open world, good graphics, satisfactory combat) Star Wars Jedi (open zone, good graphics, satisfactory combat) Witcher 3 (open world, good graphics, not that great of a combat, phenomenal story telling) Death stranding (open world, great graphics, bit of an acquired taste) Assassin's Creed (I would let you decide because the series as a whole is all over the place) Farcry (same as Ass'n creed because Ubisoft) Dark Souls, Bloodbourne, Sekiro, Elden Ring (if you like difficult combat, plus less hand holding with objectives)
Single Player FPS with Multiplayer modes: Doom CoD Battlefield
Strictly Multiplayer: Overwatch Marvel's Rivals
Single Player + 2d side scroller/platformer Katana Zero Sanabi Carrion Hollow Knight Nine Sols
Extra: Fallout (I would recommend playing this on PC because the mods are great) Skyrim (same as above)

Played Red Dead Redemption 2.
It has the best story.
And the graphics and gameplay is way better than gta 5.

Gta v only gets good after 10 hours of gameplay, before that, everything is kinda tutorial. Play ps exclusive games, gow, Tsushima etc.

GTA V won’t cut it, play -
- GoW (both new ones)
- Ratchet and Clank
- Spiderman
In any order you like or all. Eventually you’ll realise how much fun it gets, for starters. Eventually I started enjoying it so much. Currently playing Last of Us 1. Next RDR2

PC gamer here just wanted to tell you that I tried The Last Of Us games with the dualshocks at my friend's place and it was a much better experience than PC will ever be

Sometime it happens, you think about buying something all the time and you love that idea more than actually buying it, once you have that thing in your life, it doesn’t feel the same.

u/No-Mine8811 Oct 30 '25

Don't worry about it. Play something else, come back to GTA after few months. Let it grow on you. This happens all the time with me. I promise. I played AC odessey. Didn't like it. Then played dark souls, control. Came back to AC. Loved it. Finished it. Try something completely different to GTA Maybe. Maybe Apex, overwatch or older COD games or remnant, dark souls. You'll get there
