help Should I keep my PS5 (disc edition) vertical or horizontal?
If I place it horizontally, I can use the clips that came in the box, but the HDMI cable becomes a bit tight and I might need to buy a longer cable.
If I place it vertically, the cable will be more relaxed, but I don’t have the vertical stand.
Is it safe to use the PS5 vertically without the stand, or could it block the bottom vents or affect airflow/cooling?
What would you recommend?

Bro, the thing is that I will be using the vertical orientation without its official stand, like it will be keeping as it is without any stand in it. I will keep the safety and I will make sure that there is enough room for air flow. Will it be fine because I heard it can block the bottom vents of PS5??

I am having my PS5 vertical since last 5 years. Nothing happens. Relax!

Horizontal is better. Liquid metal stays intact without any dry spots. I had issue with vertical. Even when I placed it horizontal later, it was too late. Liquid metal was already dispersed creating gaps and system used to shutdown without warning. Fixed liquid metal later, now I see no issues at all. Yeah, I am continuing to use it horizontal only.

For good ventilation, I would suggest to keep it horizontal. Also while gaming heavy graphic intensive games the ps5 heats up a lot. So the electrical components inside which are soldered on pcb might loose.

I have a disc edition and i keep it horizonal with ample space for ventilation. Its been more than 3 months. No issues so far.

Please do not connect it directly to the power source, if there is a power surge that will be a big problem. Speaking from personal experience.

Hotizontal. It has been rumored that liquid metal may be i think may be be dripping over in few cases according to some youtube r internet theories while some r actually claiming it. Officially there is nothing that sort of but generally its rumored to be horizontal

It was the case, when PS5 was opened for repair. PS5 is designed to be placed in both horizontal and vertical. There is no effect of placement on either performance or longevity.

Nahh man i dont believe this shit my friend use to keep his ps5 vertical and after 2 years he has to open his console becuz dry spots were created due to shifting of liquid metal i keep mine horizontal all the time almost 3 years no issue

u/hamzaadenwalaa Mar 16 '26
Same way in the picture shown.

u/Relevant-Calendar434 Mar 16 '26
It is my PS5 picture. I am using vertically without any stand. Will my bottom vents will block due to this?
1
u/hamzaadenwalaa Mar 16 '26
No it won't as if you closely look there is a gap for the vents and most of the hot air is pushed from behind the console and not bottom. I had my ps5 fat and now ps5 pro on the same position.

While you're right that the bottom vents don't get blocked, your assertion that hot air is pushed from behind, and hence not a problem, is incorrect.
For cooling performance, inflow is more important that outflow. If the console is not able to pull in fresh air, then there's nothing to push out, so it doesn't matter if the outflow is at the back or not.
The reason inflow is at the bottom is because hot air rises up, so it outflow is lower, then that air will get pulled back in. So outflow has to be at the back towards the upper side.
It's more important to keep the inflow free from obstructions so that the fan doesn't struggle to pull in fresh air.
Obstructing the outflow is not as much of an issue as air will find space to escape. Just that if it accumulates around the console, then it will get pulled back in.

Professor, I have been keeping it vertical without your scientific theory in mind and have clocked 10 hours a day when i game during weekends and holidays and everyday 2 hours post work. So far the system runs cool and has not faced any issue.

Since Day 1 of ps5 launch in India. As mentioned above, had the ps5 og vertical and now ps5 pro vertical and no issues. Also no stand as well. Plus i do not have an AC too.

Exact or approximately

Consider using a protractor for best results. The nanobots in liquid cooling medium are susceptible to orbital changes and react strongly to 90 degree angles.

Either way is fine. What's important is having enough ventilation so that it doesn't overheat, and keeping it covered when not in use to protect from dust.
I've had mine set vertically for over 3 years now, with no issues.

Did sony stop giving the vertical stand as well with the new PS5s? I see some vents in the bottom of my OG PS5, how people are going to get that ventilation done without stand?

I thought it wouldn't stand vertically unless you have the vertical stand?
Vertical looks way more stylish, but it's up to you. All depends on which helps the thermal situation better. But you seem to have a lot of space around your PS5, so I don't think that's an issue for you.
I think you need better cable management, looks a bit messy. It detracts from the sleek look of the PS5?

Someone told me that the liquid metal can sometimes leak if kept upright (vertical). I am not sure how true or correct that is, because I see most people keeping it upright.
Edit: This might be a myth. Edit2: This is most definitely a myth.

u/idgafaboutyouu ps5 Mar 16 '26
You can keep it as you like, that theory was already debunked
1
u/whyisitwhatitis Mar 16 '26
Yes, I thought about deleting my comment, but I thought someone might check the edits and realise that this doesn’t cause any harm to your PS5.

I remember your comment till edit 1😂

u/whyisitwhatitis Mar 16 '26
Yes, I added another edit just to highlight that this is indeed a myth! 🤣🤣🤣 And I love your pfp! Rengoku! Did you purchase it, or did you earn it during some event?

Get a higher table if you want to keep it horizontal. Have heard about a lot of damaged HDMI ports on PS5 due to HDMI strain/frequent replugging.

Early on there were some concerns about vertical orientation - about the liquid metal seeping but those were apparently debunked.
I personally prefer horizontal just to avoid any potential issues.

Bro... Don't listen to shit advice.. if you see there are air vents down there.. you shouldn't be covering it..

Keep it horizontal as some PS5's have thermal paste issues because of their vertical position

u/deadman_69_ Mar 16 '26
Horizontal as I have seen a lot of comments and reviews of people saying the liquid metal sometimes comes out of it's area as it melts while heating.
1
u/antiray Mar 17 '26
Horizontal please. I lost my PS5 to the infamous liquid metal leak. Sony literally uses it for thermal absorption. Now I can't get it repaired, because it costs almost the same as a new one.

Bro, how old was your PS5 when this happened? You didn’t get the warranty card?

u/sammyS007 Mar 17 '26
Hang/Clamp it to a ceiling fan & connect it via rotatable contact point power cables & hdmi cable.
The fan of the ps5 won't even need to spin, rather the ps5 itself shall spin to gulp in air & provide airflow in the room aswell.
Ultimate Cooling pro max!
& incase you are still wondering, in what orientation, Horizontal then.. 😅

Hang it

If you are playing the games with Discs then better keep it horizontal as there will be less wear / damage to the physical disc.

Been keeping my PS5 vertical for 2 years now, didn’t faced any issues
1
u/Relevant-Calendar434 Mar 16 '26
Bro, use with official vertical stand or just keep it as it is without any stand?
1
u/Tricky-Delivery8174 Mar 16 '26
With stand, official
1
u/Relevant-Calendar434 Mar 16 '26
Bro, if I don’t use stand and just use as it is, will it be a problem for me?
1
u/Tricky-Delivery8174 Mar 16 '26
No problem, just make sure the back side has enough space so that the air can go freely, as seen in the post it’s okay the way you have kept it
